Rhea the new Chapter, without Gene

Why did people many years ago travel great distances in covered wagons west with all the dangers waiting for them. Some for the adventure, some looking for a better life or maybe just a dream.

Or they had a secret desire to become gun fighters so they could meet up on Main Street
at 12 Noon and say, Slap Leather Cowboy. Or, maybe they just liked eating beef jerky, hard tack and beans.

But then Orville and Wibur wright also had a dream. But Icarus had the same dream, many years before them and look how that turned out for him. He flew too close to the sun and got his wings clipped so to speak.

Maybe Rhea is also flying too close to the sun and will get her wings clipped as well.

Myself, I wouldn't have liked being a cowboy way back when because they had to drink warm beer and there was no coke for the whiskey.

And then after you've had a few drinks, you always had to deal with the Cartwright boys. Hoss was real hard to beat in a bar fight.

But seriously, of the Pool books that I have read, there were always the tales of hitting the wrong bar, cleaning out the wrong people and having to make a run to their car to save their lives.

Now, the guys may not do anything to Rhea but does anyone believe that their girlfriends will let Rhea out of the parking lot with a pocketful of their boyfriends money.

Oh, I forgot, Rhea doesn't have a car to dive into and screech out of the parking lot, spraying gravel on everyone.

About the gravel......a buddy and me went to a pool hall out of town one night and had to spray some gravel. A few months later we went back and made another score. The owner banned us after he remembered us. On the way out the door my buddy took about 20 bucks in quarters and chunked 'em at the owner and we sprayed gravel again...LOL.
We got about 3 miles down the road and had a flat. I had to share that.

....... Myself, I would love to donate but am seriously considering buying an airplane at the moment.

I may have to sell one of my Harleys in order to do it. Maybe I can get a bit from the members so I won't have to sell.

That's just silly, everybody knows pigs can't fly.

Hey, thats a great idea. I will paint it blue just like the Harleys and put a picture of a flying Pig on either side.

Agreed.

My only issue with everyone in society is if they make money and are successful, its them. But if they havent planned for the future its my responsiblity (as a tax payer) to take care of them.

I have just finished putting two daughters through college and paid every nickel of tuition, and they completed it debt free. If I was someone "lived and let live" and didnt have any money, my kids would have gone for free.

Can you see the rub?

Ken

I can see the rub, but I'm here to tell you there are no free rides. I had the smarts and the financial need coming out of HS and sure didn't get a free ride. Sure, I had some grants, but I also would have gone deep in debt (subsidized loans, yes), so I joined the military instead. I ended up paying my way through college and taking loans out anyway, but it was far less scary than it was when I was barely 18.
So sure, some people get some help going to college, but if they do better in life, WE ALL DO BETTER.

Regarding being on the road: a lot of people think the risk Rhea is taking is crazy. She's one bit of bad luck or one bad choice away from hitting rock bottom, right? Well, how many of us are on the brink? You lose your job, have an accident, suffer a major illness, and you're at rock bottom. It happens every day.

You lose your job, have an accident, suffer a major illness, and you're at rock bottom. It happens every day.

It sure does but we don't go out and follow a path that will increase the odds.

It sure does but we don't go out and follow a path that will increase the odds.

What are the odds of having an automobile accident? What are the odds of it being fatal? Do the fatality odds increase if you are on a bike?

DO I REALLLY CARE? I'm sure you are ok taking the risk and I say go have a blast.

The reality is she is doing what she wants with HER life. Following her dreams on a path thathas been traveled safely by many champion players in the past and present. The dramatic predictions of hitting rock bottom, turning to crime, prostitution, etc. Have no more basis than a prediction of you dying in a horrific hesd on collision with a big truck.

If it doesnt work out for her she gets a job. She'll be fine and I support her choice to follow her dream.

You`re such a troll!
I can see you think your irony and sarcasm is hugely amusing.
Irony and sarcasm is in many respects a great saving grace in many discussions, but it does not fly as a single empty statement.
You are resorting to what we se politicians do, all the time; fling s**t and hope some of it stick!
It`s obvious for everyone that you don`t need to be a race car driver to understand that driving a car with flat tires is a bad idea or you don`t have to be a pilot to understand that getting in a plane with broken wings might be a bad idea etc.

Rhea is a woman in a predominantly male world where shady caracters are drawn to the promise of quick cash like flies to s**t!
That Gene states that Rhea does not have a criminal bone in her body is fine and i would like to think like that about all of my friends (and enemies..) but i know that all of us is capable of doing terrifying thing if the circumstances are right (or wrong to be more correct)
And that women has turned to prostitution for alot less than what Rhea is going through.

Oh BTW, this post is scanned for "maleness" 55% to be exact...

Actually what I am doing is simply exposing the impossibility of someone of your obvious brilliance knowing shit about how others should live.

I will chip in $50 to the get Rhea a tablet fund! What the hell - it's entertaining.

She was at Joe's last night, John. She will be here all week I think. Hit her up!

She was hanging with Herman. As long as she is with Herman, she is in excellent hands while in OKC!

Ken

Thanks for the heads up Mr Ken...........

I told Rhea already that you were one of the good guys. Not that she would figure that out for herself.

She called and told me that herman was a pretty nice guy.

When they get rid of the smoke down there in oklahoma I'll be coming down.

Have a great Christmas.

I talked to her briefly. But I was in the middle of an expensive one pocket lesson so we didn't have a lot of time.

I think someone else is working on the tablet idea and they will hit me up for the moolah when they want it.

Rhea knows how to take care of Rhea. ;)

All girls can take care of themseves if needed, because they have one thing all men need and want. Not that she would use that "out" but it's always there, and if she has no problems with it, it would give her a comfort zone, knowing she has an out if needed in any situation, in any city.

Thanks Gene! I am right there with you on the smoke, but Oklahoma moves a little slower legislatively than other states. I am sure in time we will have non smoking establishments.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

I wasn't sure if you knew she was there or not. You definitely had your hands full with Jacob! Looked like he was pretty helpful as I was leaving though. So maybe it will be money well spent...err lost :)

I am thinking you and I need to throw down in some one pocket. At least then you would have booked one winner while in OKC! We could play American Rotation too but I don't think you can get there against me at that game. Would be interesting to find out.

Look forward to seeing you while you're in town,

Ken

Maybe they can't but I've seen one ride a Jetski with a hot chick!!

The only women allowed on the plane will be trying out for the Mile High Club.

Have to add auto pilot to the GPS and I'm sailing.

if rhea knew how to take care of rhea gene wouldn't be on here asking for donations so she can have a laptop to document this train wreck, i mean god forbid we miss 1 moment of it

it's bad enough i have to read posts on facebook w ppl i know that are more concerned w some lost dog from 2 counties away than their own family members well being especially during this time of year but i have to come on here and see some1 w a disease that is bein enabled by donations of members here

if u are in a charitable mood most on here wouldn't have to look too far to find people that could better use the $, if not in their own families i'm sure in their local communities, find some local charity that buys gifts for kids @ least u know the $ will go for a good cause and not end up in some pawn shop for pennies on the dollar a week or 2 later

.....

When they get rid of the smoke down there in oklahoma I'll be coming down.

Speaking of smoke... the last 2 years I went to the DCC (at the Horseshoe in 2010' and 2011' ) the smoke just outside the 'tournament room' at the only entrance/registration/concession area almost put me in the hospital -both times. (Same for the Music city Classic at JOB's in Nashville- it used to be rediculous as well). It was so bad because the weather "forced" everyone to stay in close quarters... The 'streaming' or gamble rooms upstairs at DCC were even worse.

I (as well as many others I know) can easily afford the 2-4k it takes to support the the DCC for the week as just an 'average pool lover' and even a couple of thousand more for the entertainment but I can't afford the 2-3 weeks (or more) of feeling like a lung disease 'guinea pig' that reduces my quality of life to bed rest and 3 weeks of meds (loss wages) to recover. When will 'tournament pool' stop cutting it own throat? How will pool grow to ever attract a 'major sponsor' of a health- youth driven social conscientious 'public at large' with this deadly albatross (specifically SMOKE) hanging around its neck?? They- the 'interested public' -by necessity-(like myself) MUST look elsewhere for 'Pool Entertainment'.

The cost/risk of traveling to and from the tournaments- hotels etc, paying large entry fees for multiple events, even the gambling entertainment at the casinos and in pool is NOTHING (ie penny's) compared to the real damage to ones health (ie loss of wages, Medical costs and quality of a long healthy life) -not to mention the long term cost to the "business of pool" (attracting the public/sponsors etc) that SMOKING around these events is taking away from our great sport.

As they say... 'Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is......" If we're going to 'Dress the Part' we've got to 'clean it up' ourselves... so we can all participate whenever we want...

just sayin
