... and, although I liked the coverage, it didn't make enough of a splash on ESPN to make much of a difference. First prize was nearly $100,000.

How many NFL games did Vince Lombardi, Bill Belichick, Mike Shanahan and John Madden play in combined? ZERO
How many NHL games did Scotty Bowman, Mike Keenan, Ken Hitchcock play in conbined? ZERO
How many NBA games did Red Auerbach, Greg Popovich, Chuck Daly play in? ZERO (in fact Chuck Daly never played basketball at any level)
How many MLB games did Joe McCarthy, Earl Weaver, Jim Leyland, Jack McKeon, Joe Maddon, Buck Showalter play in combined? ZERO
Go ahead and walk the walk to talk the talk. :sorry:
Watchez is the teacher.
So were these people not respected by the players or not understand the psychology of competition?
They KNEW who held the PURSE strings. They knew who controlled their destiny! A coach should control the MONEY and the players destiny and future with the team. A coach should have a few year contract. Players should have to EARN their spot and Earn the right to stay on the team. You have a losing record then you LOSE your spot. You have a winning record and get to stay. Pretty simple!
Your pay should be based on your win percentage! Zero wins equals zero dollars!

Well actually, professional sports such as baseball and football HAVE incorporated new rules into their games in the past few years to speed the game up....and as far as evening out the competition goes...why the heck do you think they let the worst teams draft first??? Do you actually believe that MLB and the NFL want the same team/teams to dominate year in and year out? Do you really believe MLB and the NFL want the games to last longer?
I don't think so.
As far as pool goes...it is hard to watch sometimes...even for an enthusiast like myself. I don't think that long, drawn-out games/matches is going to appeal to the masses. People today are always in a hurry for everything...always wanting quick results. I just can't see a chess-like pool match holding the attention of viewers in today's times. And there you go.....how often do you see CHESS on television...and what kind of ratings do you think that would get? We don't need pool to be the slow deliberate game it must be to be played correctly...on television...at least not in it's purest form. Something faster with quicker end-results is the only way it will have a chance to survive on television...if even then.
But then....I could be wrong!!!

Crap Shoot? We have won 1 out of the last 7. If we didn't play Europe in the early years when we had the nuts in top level pool pros and they for the most part had the top snooker players. The game was and is 9 ball. I'll bet the U.S doesn't have a winning record in the next 5 years now. 15 years ago you could have put 5 top regional players in and they probably would have won. Johnnyt
