Pool Is One Of The Hardest Games

Tiger woods was a hack just a couple yrs back till finally getting a coach that could straighten out some of his swing flaws

Even the VERY few valid points you have made in this thread have lost all creditably with this statement.

Sorry to see I must have struck a nerve, and caused you to lose your cool !..Only you could be self -centered, and dense enough, to issue the above challenges !..In case you didn't notice, I was talking about a mere 20 years ago, when you were in your prime, and I could still stand upright !

You heard of me all right, you just chose to avoid me !...But thats OK, lots of NON-one pocket player's thought they could win !...The fact is, you would have needed considerable weight from me, playing one pocket on a 5 X 10, even when I was winding down !..And a whole lot of people know that to be the truth ! :sorry:

As for your argument about one pocket, versus 9 ball,..Anybody (except maybe Spider) knows better !...You don't have to rely on someone you never heard of, just ask Cardone, Busty, Efren, Buddy, or any other top player who knows better !...You are embarassing no one but yourself, by your BIZAAR claims ! :sorry: ;)

I will say, your brain still works pretty well for an old man who can no longer even stand. I like your fight too... still got it after all these years and that's cool in my book. A real life Gran Torino.

No Sir, the fact is I'd never heard of you....and avoided few that gambled at pool.

No big deal, lots of people never heard of me !...However, I am not surprised...I would bet you never even looked at a book, unless it was all about "YOU" !...or written by "YOU" !..(could that be why you never mention either of Robin's books ?)

That is why in the dictionary, next to the definition of "self-centered", there is a picture of your smiling face..(and, no doubt it was furnished by YOU) ;)

By Tigers standards he was a hack when he dropped out if the top 50 if not for a coach with a swing change regaining the No1 spot in the world would be virtually impossible
I can't seem to get a answer in how many pro pool players have get regular instruction
What I have been told that a instructor not as good as them can't teach them anything
Maybe they should talk to Stevie Moore who says CTE was the greatest thing he ever learned resurrecting his carer ,, but for the most part pool player don't tweak their games like PGA pro's do with instructors watching

A little overview on this discussion pool has been said to be harder than every sport harder than baseball,. football ,hockey , golf, tennis ,fooseball , lawn darts and curling 12 oz cans

I argue that's its not all those other sports have physical and genetic virtues attached to them that limits the playing field and many more yrs of coaching that go with it
Pool has very little limitations in fact if you listen to the expert in scientific research and development the only thing separating you and Shane is 10,000 hours of practice

Next time a pool player wins athlete of the yr award look me up
Oh that's right there has to be a first time winner first ;)

maybe you were overshadowed too much by Minnesota Fats.

Thank you Bud....being "self-not-centered" makes it difficult to walk....without a drink. ;) I've read many books in my time, but I can safely say you were not in any of them.....maybe you were in an obscure pool book that I have on the shelf.

I have no idea why no one has ever heard of you, were you ever in a magazine or on TV?.....maybe you were overshadowed too much by Minnesota Fats.

I would ask ANY impartial reader, to explain to me how in the world, Mr. Wil-ey could be so obtuse, as to NOT understand my SUBTLE hint ?...I wonder if he would have gotten my drift, if I had named the titles for him ?...I was kind enough not to even mention Grady, Buddy, or Alfie's books..(But 'modesty' is not something he deals with, EVER !) ;)

Sorry, but you are back in Wil-ey Coyote
mode again !..Sell those 'lessons' big boy !

The thing separating you and Shane is more than practice. However for other people I have yet to see anyone who has put in 10,000 hours who isn't close to Shane.

Basically Mark, studies have shown that 10,000 hours is ABOUT what it takes in ANY endeavor to gain mastery of it. It's not just sports it's any field no matter what it is.

In Germany for example they still have the apprentice system and it takes four years minimum as an apprentice and in some fields much more to become a master. You cannot run or own a shop without a master skill level in that shop.

10,000 hours is just a rule of thumb. Some things may take 8000 and some 12000. But again you find a single example of a player who only put in 4000 and who plays at world class level and you won't find a person who put in 10,000 who doesn't play at world class level. (that's hours of REAL dedicated deep practice - not simply banging balls).

Sorry that science is something you don't believe in. Luckily for you science allows you to broadcast your ignorance so that people know to not give your opinion any weight.

I am a pool player and I won Athlete of the year in my High School. Does that count? LOL.

Basically Mark, studies have shown...<--Here we go again..WHAT studies John ?.......you won't find a person who put in 10,000 hrs. who doesn't play at world class level. <--Which [sic] 'scientific study' proved this ? (that's hours of REAL dedicated deep practice - not simply banging balls)...

So John,..How many hours do you estimate you have to go, before you will magically become,... (drum roll please)...
'WORLD CLASS' ?...(I know, I know,...You weren't really 'dedicated' for the last 30 years !)

PS..John, I'm really getting concerned about you...I keep thinking you'll snap out of of it...Then you make another post like this !..Please, get some qualified help..ASAP !..NOT from Spider or CJ, they are slipping away faster than you are !

A lot. A very lot.

But I have enough time in to do the job in front of me.

I can find many of them not just one and not just one sport either ,,its simply a rediculas argument .. ask John Morra how many he's got in I can assure u its well past 10k
Everyone has a cap limit in everything they do ,, and if they tried achieving something after early 20s that cap limit is several notches down as the brain is already hard wired
Pool certainly would be the easiest to prove your theory since it has the least amount of physical restrictions but at the end of the day there are guys who practice as much as Shane that are not in his class

Is John Morra a world class player? Yes he is. Did he put in the time with same level of intensity as Shane? I doubt it.

Among world class performers the elite ALSO put in more time.

Try again.

Mr. Stroke, most of your claims are quite reasonable !...At least (IMO) you are light years ahead of John B's somewhat flawed logic !..I don't see why he gets on your case so much ?

PS..Just a tip..Maybe you need to include the words, "science-based studies have proven"...in your debate's with him..
Trust me..I DO know for sure, John much prefers arguing, to being proven wrong ! (even when he knows he is)

No he is not a world class player he's mid level pro probably has closer to 20k than 10k
and I'm sure more at his age than Shane as he's basically been playing for a living since 16 and since his Dads a pro you can be assured he's gotten good instruction
