Brandon Shuff on Bonus Ball

I just have one thing to say. Whatever Brandon likes, I like. Go, Brandon Shuff, go. Wishing you much success in all your pool endeavors. :)

It was tough to see Brandon's team lose. He was so intense, and was trying so hard. Stevie, too. It was Darren who looked like his mind was somewhere else.

Oh, I know you're not being combative, Stu. You're never combative, and I very much appreciate the tact and diplomacy you always exhibit here. I wish I was as well behaved as yourself.

I also appreciate your opinions. They are well thought out, and well communicated.

What you say about the problems presented in trying to attend live Bonus Ball matches in the past, is true. And the problems didn't stop just there. There have been numerous mistakes made by the WPBL; some big, and some not so big. But I consider all mistakes forgivable as long as there are efforts being made to correct them. And that is what I see the WPBL now trying to do.

Maybe Bonus Ball will make it, and maybe it won't. I don't really know. But it's just as I told Tommy Kennedy, as he was lamenting yesterday's loss during our lunch today: you can't look to the future until you stop looking at the past. I hope he takes my advice. I hope I take my advice.

All the best to you, Stu.

Roger

Thanks for this kind post. Obviously, you are a valued poster on AZB and a valued member of the billiards community.

Roger, I'm hoping, as many do, that the WPBL's business model proves to be sustainable. Still, on principle, I'm going to have to disagree with the statement that you can't look to the future until you stop looking at the past.

The more widely accepted axiom is that you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and in the case of the WPBL, the first impression was a poor one and, in your words, mistakes were made. Many people and enterprises have made a poor first impression and gone on to great success, and let's hope the WPBL proves such a case. So many people whom I count as friends have a great stake in the success of the WPBL, and I'll cross my fingers and hope for better times ahead.

To me, Bonus Ball is like a movie in which I didn't enjoy the first fifteen minutes. I'm not leaving the cinema quite yet, but if it doesn't pick up, I might. To some, however, Bonus Ball is a Broadway play in which Act I was terrible, so we'll have to hope that those people don't leave the theater and go home.

My fingers are crossed and I'm hoping for the best. I'll give Bonus Ball a second chance and encourage others to do the same. Long live the WPBL.

Stu

I doubt it and hope not. There was definitely a bit of funny business with the first payments but if the Players got stiffed this time around, that would seal BBs fate beyond recognition.

Can't go forward without the Pros at the table.

What a joke. Asking if the BB players like BB. What are they going to say...I hate it? Has any of the BB players seen gambling playing BB? The answer is probably no. That's how much they like it. Johnnyt

I saw the game completely different. Darren played the best that night imo. It was both Stevie and Brandon who I saw struggling.

how many checks are they getting outside of BB right now ??

Same thing Johnny. At this point in life, I don't exactly love my job at the Hospital either.
But if my ward manager asked me the same question, I would smooth her a ss over for her in an instant.

Its a pay check every 2 weeks.

Plus, they are still playing pool, not like BB has them out digging ditches... geez... we all pay for the privilege to play every week !!!

Yep, 3 times a week for me most weeks, plus practicing.

I stopped adding up my bar tabs for beer and chicken wings along time ago.

My wife and I tied for 3rd place in Scotch. We paid for our League fees out of our winnings and got $75 each for half season.

We spend that each Thursday evening out. Its all fun and better than sitting at home in front of a TV. Not complaining one bit.

#1 There is only about 6 guys in BB that gamble at any game.

#2 Those 6 guys don't really gamble with each other.

#3 The 6 or so guys that gamble play mostly 1 pocket and nobody not in BB is gona gamble on that game against those guys.

So just because there not playing 20k sets of BB they must not like the game.
You know which guys like BB ? The ones tired of watching SVB run out 9 & 10 ball racks.

No one has been stiffed during these playoffs. Players are getting paid as soon as their team is eliminated, and the checks are being cashed without bouncing.

Roger

Thinking that you are at Bonus Ball today I asked three different people that closely resembled you, " are u Mr. Long"?. They smiled and said " No".

I was sitting right behind their bench, and my opinion here was based on the observations I made of them as they were seated while not shooting. Brandon and Stevie both encouraged and coached each other, while Darren sat quietly staring away from the table much of the time. At one point, while Brandon was playing his singles match, Stevie told him how many seconds he had left on the shot clock, which was very nice, but I thought it should have come from the captain (Darren).

I don't mean to be ragging on Darren. He's a terrific player, and he played great in his singles match, but he just seemed to be dejected after his team made a few mistakes.

Oh ok, I see where you are coming from.

i love bonus ball. but this whole thing about being the greatest game ever is just stupid.

if the pros really liked the game that much you would see at least one of them playing it outside of the arena.

I have not seen or heard of any pros going around playing bonus ball, and I dont see that changing any time soon unless there is a paycheck involved.

yeh roger must've have been watching a different game lol.. sorry roger..

I'm all the team and i gave it 100%.. i played well most part and my singles i won 30-0 3pt game.. after that it was out of my hands sadly...

but we win and lose as a team and take it on the chin.

regards the game i love the game. and it not about the money really because I'm around 5-10k loser.. and i enjoy watching the game more than any other game.

wpbl made loads of mistakes but at least they trying so fair play to them..

hopefully be a 2nd season and better organized and obviously play a full season.

but if not it was worth a try..

biggest waste would be that venue its a great venue.

darren
I hope they get it right
Time will tell

well.. think reason why no gambling because it not so easy to follow it without scoreboard and i think players would take way too long without clock shot... plus we not really played it much and still learning the game..

but i think if a 2nd season some of the guys will gamble am sure....
