God is not going to help you win your match!

The pool gods have been doling out bad luck to everyone all of the time. All the good luck gets bundled up and sent to this one lucky guy:

Really??? God ???

Other than the post with the pic about "man creating god", not a single person addressed the issue of whether god even existed. It must be fear of others lashing out for having a dis-belief in god. It always amazes me that in this country we think our God is the one and only, and in other countries they believe that their (insert other "god names" here ie; Allah, etc.) is the one and only, when in fact no one has met this god person. No real proof exists that this or any other god is/or was there and yet people still believe so much so in THEIR god, that they are willing to destroy all others who don't believe. They chastise and form instant opinions about those that don't believe (in their god).

When I miss a shot, I call out MY name....because I am the one that missed. I am the one that it is at the table, and have let myself down. I am for real as opposed to mythical, and I am responsible for my actions in life.

Cleary, thanks for the pic. Nice to know I'm not the only one out there who believes that life isn't given, controlled, or should be influenced by (god), or anyone else besides me.

It is your personal choice if you want to believe in God or not, Just as it is my personal choice .if I want to believe in God or not.

If this thread goes into if God exists or not it will end up in NPR section.

Ps Like I said I got 20 bucks that God uses a olive wood cue and a old growth maple shaft. So that should tell that one I believe in God and two I am willing to put money on HIM.

And another 20 says he shoots with His right hand ;)

Perhaps

Those who think God is not in control or does very much should try growing a maple tree out of some select body orifice:grin:and get there next shaft from that source if they think they really run the show.

I don't know who bugs me the most...the religious zealot who tries to sell God to everybody, or the atheist zealot who must scream there is no God?

Please...believe as you wish. Just leave me alone, already!

God only exists in a persons mind so any thing that happens on a pool table or in anything in life comes from you. Just ask the guy playing with snakes in God's name and got bit and died.

I didn't start this thread to discuss whether God exists or not, but to point out that a lot of players want to blame everyone but themselves for their loss, convenient, but not productive. If we put the blame where it belongs we would acknowledge our strengths and weaknesses, and put in the time and work necessary to improve. We are responsible, not the equipment, the pool gods, just us. Some of us do not have this problem, but a lot of us like to play the blame game. If the table sucks, it also sucks for your opponent who just beat you.

One time I played a Presbyterian. Despite losing I took pleasure in knowing that God would send the dirty heretic to the lake of fire.

"Pray as if there's only God - Play as if there's only yourself"

The reason I bring this up is that I've seen so many players yell that it's not fair, I've put so much into it, and still I'm not winning. I've seen them actually scream into the ceiling
cussing God, or whatever devine being they believe in for their misfortune, like they're OWED something for all their hard work.I'm not saying there is no God, I believe in him with all my heart, but he is not going to help you win your match. It is only you and your opponent in the game, and knowing that God is not going to help you is good thing, why? Because he is not going to help your opponent either. He is not going to help you make a shot, and he is not going to cause you to miss a shot. It is you, and only you doing this, and the sooner that some players learn this the better off they will be....practice will get you there, not God!

I was told many years ago "Pray as if there's only God - Play as if there's only yourself"

'The Game is the Teacher'

Years ago when I was in the navy I used to hear guys praying in the chow line after they got their food. The most common prayer was, "Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and always". Didn't help.

Not sure if you are aware, but their god specifically spoke to them directly, and told them to put maximum effort into converting you. :D

I have never had an Atheist with a tidy hairdoo wearing a suit bang on my door, odd?? I think not. :D

Exactly Hog. I've never seen someone mention God, but we all speak to the pool gods... notice the small "g"... just goofing around. When you don't get the rolls, the pool gods are messing with ya again... that's all. nothing to get all riled up about

See my signature line for further clarification if needed.

Contrary to what some have claimed, God did NOT invent pocket pool. HE did invent snooker though. :grin-square:

The immortal George Carlin has lots to say about this topic:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=8r-e2NDSTuE

WARNING: strong language, and may offend the sentiments of the weaker-constitutionalized among us

If George Carlin was right, in his way of believing, like others, there is no GOD, then it doesn't matter to him at this point. If he was right, that when he left this world, he simply ceased to exist, then again it doesn't matter.
If he was wrong in his thinking, and there is actually an all knowing Supreme being that we refer to as GOD, then I'm sure that he ain't liking it now.

Moral of the story......If I believe and chose to serve GOD and I die but I was wrong and there is no GOD then all Ive done is live a good, decent life. No harm done.
If you choose to not believe and die and you were wrong......uh, not good! :grin-devilish:

Regarding the OP for those that do believe. I don't believe GOD controls every shot u take nor the outcome of every game or match. I do believe that if it matters to you then it matters to him. Take it with a grain of salt. People are gonna believe what they want.
