E-Cigarette Ban in Los Angeles effective today...

That is correct. E-cigs don't even generate smoke. It is the same thing as the artificial smoke machines that are used by bands and shows for decades and there has never been a single instance of it harming anyone in anyway. You don't hear about anyone banning those. They are the same thing.

Like you said. It has nothing to do with health. It is about a bunch of liberal progressive control freaks shoving their beliefs up everybodys nose again. Cigarettes were only the beginning. Once they learned how to use the government to impose their belief system onto others there will be no end to it. May as well start digging the graves. That's where it always ends up when their kind gets into power.

I agree with everything you say here. The tobacco industry are doing everything in their power to get negative reviews on e-cigs. Can you imagine what would happen if half the country quit smoking and went to these water vapor e-cigs!! There would be reduced cancer, cigarette sales would plummet, chemo therapy would start to disapate and our country would really be in trouble.

I have been around them and can't smell anything and you can even see the vapor disappear in the air. The initial studies showed they were completely safe but now tobacco companies have their people giving negative feedback so people stick with cigarettes. If you you think our country is in trouble now, wait until everyone quits smoking and see what happens!! Below were some comments from the New York Post on e-cigs...Real cigarettes are nasty and I can smell someone smoking all the way across the room. The tobacco industry is paranoid and 3 of the biggest tobacco companies have even started their own e-cig companies!!

Yes, e-cigs somewhat mimic the old “coffin nails” — that’s why they help you quit. Many smokers prefer kicking the habit with a product that looks and feels like a cigarette.

Spike Babian, co-owner of Vape New York, a city “vape shop,” made the clear point, testifying, “We don’t ban water because it looks like vodka.”

It is ridiculous. All that is being exhaled is carbon dioxide. Will they ban breathing next? I have sat next to several people vaping at events and smell nothing. They do their thing and it looks weird at first but there is no second-hand anything as far as I can tell.

I told you all in previous threads that this had NOTHING to do with your health or with second hand smoke.

This proves it....it's only about power over us. Here is a free market SOLUTION to the second-hand smoke problem, for god's sake, and it, too, is being squelched for the same reason...ahem.

Jeff Livingston

Only in America Baby!....you cross that line it's alright to smoke weed...on this side
...well that e cig..that will get your ass in some serious trouble. It's not hard to see we got a bunch of jacck offs running this country.

I think it should be perfectly legal to kill yourself inhaling whatever garbage you so choose.....but only in the privacy of your own home.

(and your medical expenses should not be lumped in with everyone else's health insurance)

im a smoker and i can deal with all the smoking bans, but not smoking outside in the open air is something i will never deal with rationally. when you get rid of all combustion engines, then we can talk about that. Other than that, i will smoke outside and any one who doesnt like it can kiss my country ass,.

It does seem silly.

But which is stranger, that they banned public vaping, or that it is perfectly legal to profit from real cigarettes, which are the largest cause of death in the US? It's hard for me to get too worked up about the right to vape when close to half a million Americans die each year from real cigarettes.

My father always said...

When you can't find a logical answer, follow the money.

These e-cigs are helping people quit smoking. When people quit smoking, tax revenue goes down in the states, cities, etc.

I started e-cig last May. I was spending $300/month on cigarettes and now spend maybe $40 on vape juice and supplies. I don't have smoker cough anymore and my clothes don't smell.

Cities drove smokers to find a way to quit, and now that people have, they are feeling the financial crunch. Soon all of the non smokers will feel the hit as they start to tax other items to recoup that revenue.

They can't come out and promote smoking, so try to eliminate what helped people and hope they go back to it.

Just my opinion. Feel free to praise or trash it as you wish.

The Country is ran by big business, the people we elect are merely puppets for these guy's. I wonder if the Tobacco Man stands to lose more if e cigs are legal.

How long have they been out??? Does the FDA really not know if they can harm us.

Yes I know we have the right to vote, but as much ignorance there is out there its just a bad IDEAL...or maybe that's what their counting on.

What a joke!

Guarantee Tobacco will never be illegal.

No worries, I did not take to heart what you said, trust me !! I believe post # 39 and # 41 hit it better than I did. If my post came off to folks that I was making smokers out to be Saints, good opinion on your part, but, equally, the opinion should not be the other way around either, again, in my opinion.
I also do agree, that many people may feel I had no right in grabbing the boom (thanks for letting me know what it was called) in what I thought was helping the man as I guess it should have been a possible union job or something as it might be possible that's what your referring to??, however, growing up knowing my father jumped off his harley once and dove in a river to save a child (the reunion many years later was a fantastic gathering) from drowning, I have first hand knowledge the mother was extremely happy no one waited for a certified diver to show up and I see nothing wrong with running a cash register. Wonderful people do it everyday.

I have been smoking the e-Cig for about 2-1/2 years and I am reaping the benefits with no adverse side effects. My Wife has COPD and has switched to the E-Cig with her Lung Doctors blessing.

The only People that I have found that don't like E-Cigs are the People that quit smoking. And they can't stand it.

Nicotine helps you concentrate. Out here in California they say weed is fine. I believe in Santa Monica now you can't smoke tobacco in your own apartment. So although I like the smoke free pools rooms and not having people smoking in public buildings I think telling people that they can not smoke in their own apartment or outside is totalitarian.

I think making people pay enormous amounts of cash for cigarettes and cigars is wrong. The state wants to get into grass so they can make money off it. The e-cigarettes never bothered me at all. So a substance that helps you concentrate is bad but a weed that is a narcotic that's therapeutic.

One of the laws of economics is that if something costs more you will use less of it and if it cost less you will use more of it. So if weed becomes legal and the price drops folks will be inclined to smoke more of it. During the 1970's the media was saying that cocaine was not addictive. Well we all know that was tripe. I know I am digressing.

We have an education crisis in America and a substance that makes it easier to concentrate and relieves tension is being vilified. Conversely a product that is a narcotic
is good. I think this is a strange set of priorities. I like to smoke cigars sometimes but there is so much tax on them now that they are very expensive. Robert Oppenheimer, Dwight Eisenhower and Einstein just to name a few all smoked a lot and they also did a lot of critical thinking. So many great pool players smoked. It helped them concentrate.

Now Bob Marley may have been a hit writing machine but I doubt he would have come up with the theory of relativity.

Diamond69, your words here prove to me we aren't as dumb as the government would like us to be. You said it yourself. You quit smoking and use the e-cig. The results have proved positive, your clothes don't smell, you don't cough anymore, and I'm sure you feel better. I was a smoker for 40 years and moved to the e-cig 1 1/2 ago and the difference in the way I feel is unbelievable!! I also don't cough anymore and I have been working out on a regular basis, and feel wonderful.

The financial crunch is right!! As sad as it may sound our government needs cancer! Cancer provides more income than we could ever imagine not to mention the kick back from tobacco sales. The e-cigs do not contain the 4000 chemicals that kill you with cancer, and they hate that. They put a chemical in cigarette's a couple of years ago that makes them go out quicker if you aren't drawing on them. I don't think they made sure that chemical wasn't harmful to us.

E-cig banning is ludicrous but I can deal with that. What they are actually trying to do is make it sound like e-cigs are really bad for you, so people don't quit smoking. I only hope there are more people like you that can see through the smoke screens they are creating...

I was in Columbus, Ohio and about 5 people lite these up 2 tables over and it made me kind of wonder about the safety of these things.
I felt kind of light headed after about 2 hours of this.
California usually gets things right as far as protecting peoples health before other parts of the country get it.
Down south in some states you can still smoke in the restuarants.
The actually still have smoking and non smoking and the people that smoke have no problem with sitting right next to you with your food right there and lighting right up.

My hats off to California...........They might not be correct on this one but they know something......

I'm sympathetic to your position here, but this particular statement doesn't ring true to me. Cancer is a very expensive illness to treat, and the govt pays for most of those treatments (via Medicare).

What I could believe is that politicians are in the pockets of the richest companies and tobacco is a rich industry, certainly compared to these vapors.

But more than likely they just don't know what these things are, they haven't been thoroughly tested yet, and they look like cigarettes to people, and that's why this city council banned them, not because of a conspiracy of any kind.

Damn right.

It's not California, it's LA and the ban is only for using them outside. In this case they know nothing.

In North Carolina, tobacco country, it is illegal to smoke inside public places.

I've been around pool players who use them, I wouldn't have even known if I didn't see it. Didn't smell anything, very little vapor seemed to escape. Seemed pretty harmless to me.

To people hooked on nicotine - as an ex-smoker and having quit for a long time now, I can tell you that every moment I now feel about as satisfied and relaxed as I previously did only after having a cigarette. The addiction is fueled by the misery of withdrawal and it disappears over time.

Where are people going to draw the line? Have any of you ever had a headache from car exhaust (carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, etc,)? It must rank as one of the worst headaches someone can get. Do I have the right to stop someone from driving a classic car because of high tail pipe emissions? How about someone driving around a new car with a service engine soon lite on, especially a blinking SES light which undoubtedly means that your car is producing excessive emissions? All of these things can be bad for my health, do I have the right to prevent you from driving these vehicles and causing health hazards to me? Its ok to burn garbage where I live bot I know plastics burning are bad for me, we better ban that too. Some people have terrible body odor, if it makes me vomit that will remove the enamel from my teeth, so you better not have body odor cause thats illegal too. Society is getting ridiculous with all of the "do gooder" police out there. I dont want to hear about it costing more to take care of smokers health problems when there are so many obese people out there that will have high health care costs, better go after the fat people too then.

Burning plastic is pretty much banned everywhere in the USA. If you see anyone doing it you had better be upwind of the smoke because it's highly poisonous.

The vaping ban is just plain stupid. All this will lead to is people using devices that don't look like cigarettes. Which I don't understand in the first place. They really had to have red glowing ends to make them look like cigarettes?

My thought is that if they ban this they better ban the consumption of everything in public. I am offended by people who drink too much and vomit in front of me. I am offended by people who eat food that smells bad to me. What about people who have peanut allergies? I think we should ban all food in public places to protect everyone from any type of allergies.

Here is how IT should be...

Pool Room A - Location: A Street
Non Smoking..
Come here if you do not like smoke, work here if you do not like smoke around you

Pool Room B - Location: B street
Smoking and all tobacco products allowed
Come here if you like to light up, work here KNOWING this is allowed, if you do not like smoke, work at pool room A.

JV (----the solution is simple, I am a non-cigarette smoker and an occasional cigar smoker
