I was never a huge fan of reality shows, and I do realize that they all have to have some sort of push or scheduling to get events rolling (log counts in ax men, or season crab money in deadliest catch) but those shows made their ratings by showing the falls and broken legs, or when the captain died of lung cancer (I even watched a few shows around that time). And the ratings were huge and they've each had multiple seasons, so it wasn't just me who was fascinated by the downfalls of real life.
The worst reality tv is when it is entirely event scripted, and just because the dialogue isn't, they can still call it reality tv. Those are so transparent, they rarely last, unless you have some train wreck like the kardashians or paris hilton. But everyone knows how they got their fame, it was a different kind of reality video.
