First Pool Hall

So after a slight inner argument I decided to check out a pool hall not to far from my house 25 min or so. Figured I had enough practice in and needed to break in the new cue a bit.
After getting there and walking to the counter I ask the lady how much it is to play the tables. "Six dollars an hour." She says I think wow way cheap. So I go off on my own to a bar box and start tapping some balls around just trying some stuff with the cue. When the owner comes up to me asking where I am from how I found the place. I answer politely a friend told me and what town I am from. Then he starts pointing out all the photos of SVB, Efren, and Fransisco. Now your all thinking what the hell are you getting at? Well the age gap between me and the next young person was 35 years I would say Im 24. These guys were all shocked a young kid came in and knew of these pool players and there games they played.
So after the owner and me played some games and he taught me how to jump something I never really knew how to do. My grand total bill came to 19.50$ that was a small pizza and 2 pops plus the table time. I was there way longer then 2 hours I think about 4 or 5. I said to the counter lady I owe you more then this and she says no you dont Charlies (owner) lessons are free and he like talked to you so I only charged you the first hour. I have to say im going back Sunday and going to play against some regulars for fun. Best pool hall in Southern MN for sure.

Positive reviews of places or products are a good thing that we should see more of. The problem is that you didn't name the place and where it is located so that others who are looking for that type of establishment can give it a try also. It sounds like this owner is deserving of some good publicity, and it sounds like a place that other pool players would like to be able to check out, neither of which are possible if you don't name the name of the place and the location.

they're setting you up.

Ah my mistake the place is called Band Box Recreation in St James Mn Also I doubt there setting me up I dont have faith enough in myself to play for money some day maybe but not now.

if only more business owners in general had that sort of mentality, the game would be in much better shape.

I don't think the setup ls to win a couple bucks...they are 'setting you up' to win you as a customer for life.

That's how they suck you in!

A pool hall in st James? What do they have for tables? I'm from Mankato Josh Raines and his wife are opening a pool hall called Mankato cue club in August with 14 diamonds just a heads up if your ever around Mankato

I did hear about that I will be going up there to check out the diamonds for sure. The tables at St James aren't special but the 9 footer is so tight it feels like a snooker table. If they set me up that's fine they need younger people in there

Next time bring some of your friends along and the owner will probably buy you all dinner! Bring a couple of cute girls and the whole room will be buying you drinks. :D

Bd that's actually the plan take a few friends and try to spread the word of such a nice fun place.

Since you a young guy,.........

Sounds like it could be a golden opportunity for you to learn from a few of those oldsters in that room. Might wanna put the brakes on the friends temporarily until you get a feel how those old guys may like/dislike that .
Why chance to ruin an opportunity ?? just saying.

Room owners

if only more business owners in general had that sort of mentality, the game would be in much better shape.

Sadly, this kind of room owner is the exception and not the rule.

IMO, this is the primary reason why pool is not more popular than it currently is.

sounds like a great place. thanks for posting about it

Life can be simple

With concerns for others, and good customer service, not a new concept :). Give and you will receive. Duh. Glad your time was enjoyable and tell your friends.

Alright quick update I was invited to go play with the regulars at 8pm Sunday. Wow the things I learned the night I stayed until midnight and now know more about angles and off the rail draw shots. Just blown away with the players there.

Sounds like you are a decent young man.

Guessing the regulars recognize that, and are willing to share their knowledge.

That's how it's supposed to work...respect leads to respect. Two way streets.

Good luck to you...buy those guys a cup of coffee.;)
