Diamond Table At Hard Times

In case you haven't been watching the 10-ball tournament going on right now, Hard Times removed the infamous table 1 Gold Crown and replaced it with a Diamond table last week. I'm wondering how everyone feels about this. It seems rather strange to me to have 1 Diamond in a tournament room full of Gold Crowns.

well...

They didn't take OUT table one. They took out one of the shitty side tables and moved table one to where table two was.

I don't mind it as much since it's a diamond blue label.

Where they held the AZ state one hole championships had all gold crowns and one diamond where they held the finals and some of the main matches.

It was a red label diamond, so it banked completely different from a gold crown and banking is much more iimportant in one hole than ten ball.

I think this is great news as blue label Diamonds have become the new standard. I wish they would replace all the tournament room tables with factory spec Diamond tables. Same goes for Danny K's...but its a pipe dream.

I second that Martin.

Diamond

Table 1 is still available, but in addition there is an option for players that would like to give a diamond a try. Id prefer if they had a Gabriel table too, so we could test all the premium tables and decide which we prefer to play on.

i like the diamond table there but playing the tourny on all GC and 1 Diamond seems wrong imo

I watched the stream today. Everyone that played on that table had a hard time. Kind of weird. Pros are used to 9' foot diamonds. But for some reason today everyone had a hard time

Not one player has complained about playing on the Diamond table. Remember most of the major tournaments today are played on Diamonds, so all these top players are used to them. There are actually more complaints about the super tight 4" pockets on some of the Gold Crowns. So tight that some shots that you might normally shoot you cannot shoot here. You have to play safe instead.

This might be wrong if all of the GC's were set-up the same way. This is not the case, I personally would much prefer jumping on the Diamond over playing on the non-tournament side, where the pockets are big and the rails are dead.

Sorry, most people wouldn't find it wrong to play on a nice table.

they played it all on the tournament side i think only 64 players in a 3 day event

I played on the Diamond Wednesday. The new cloth makes it a little harder than usual. The other tables were done a couple weeks ago so the cloth is just about broken in. Not having the A/C on doesn't help either. It's kinda sad. We've got this great room, a great event with World Class Players and it's a sweat box in there. Today should be fun. It's supposed to hit triple digits in So Cal. I'll be watching from the air conditioned comfort in front of my computer.

That's where the tournament is being played...

This is incorrect, you must not play in any tournaments at this location. Initially, they use both sides and when the field gets to around 16 players, all of the matches will get played on the tournament side.

All of the tables play great on the tournament side, GCs, Diamond, and even the ones with 4 inch pockets.

I bet the Taiwanese players would complain, but nobody speaks Mandarin lol. I like Diamond tables, but in my opinion a tournament should be played on uniform equipment. Differing pocket sizes within a specific brand of table is one thing, mixing table brands is another.

Hey, at least you have the luxury of having a pool hall at all. In my area, the only pool room offerings are well worn out furniture grade olhausen 4 X 8's which play utterly terrible. Oh yeah, and the usual valley bar boxes. Diamonds are my preference, but I would love it if our area room would install even one beat up gold crown!

FWIW.
They used to have a Diamond table on that spot.
It did not get much action.
I saw Efren and Marcus Chamat woof at each other there years ago.
Efren was willing to give Marcus a spot if they played on the Diamond.
Marcus wouldn't play on it.

Geez
At their level, these top players should be able to play any type of table and that includes these tables  :grin-square:
