This happened to me in Vegas last night

YOU were a dumbass...for gambling with a stranger.
He drilled you for the chump you were. Wake up, man, and smell the coffee.
:boring2:

just for the record, the op of this thread is no ""dumbass" or "chump".

and he has been out gambling very likely prior to your being born. Maybe even before your parents were.

best,
brian kc.

This happens more often than not.

So the OP is up 5 games. OP offers in effect double or nothing race to 3 b/c he is running out on time. This is a fools bet to take from OP and the dude should not have taken it. He likely didn't have the second hundred which he felt he was gonna lose,..... so he turns douchebag.

Honestly, if he thought he had a chance against OP, he should have made arrangements to play another time.
There's a difference between gamblers & players.

That's why I am not big on gambling myself. Usually play friends and don't really want their money.

I'm not playing anybody I don't know for money without them posting.
In fact the same can be said for the people I do know.

Yes, I agree, each player must post after each game win or lose, if the other guy does not post break down and pack up. Also rules must be agreed on before you start playing, like ball in hand or alternate break or 3 foul rules etc.etc.

This is what I did for a good part of my life. Maybe about 90% of the people I gambled with were strangers and I always knew about the consequences involved. I posted this thread because I thought it was humorous that someone would try this move.

As the great pool player W,C. Fields said “If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.”

Thanks for the kind words. The guy I played thought he was going to play and old man with an old man's game but got surprised.

the person you played is a complete idiot keep away from these guys it could have ended in a fight

Thanks for your concern but I'm completely aware of these situations and have been in much worse ones but in this case quite a few people came over to see what was happening and many of these were good friends that would have offered support if needed. I'm 74 years old but I have always tried to handle this type of situation with class to avoid anything physical.

This reminds me of an old W C Fields movie when he found out a kid had some money.

W C pulled out a deck of cards and told the kid to get his money out.

Kid says "Is this gambling"?

W C "Not the way I play".

I'd bet this isn't the first time that guy has pulled that and I suspect he is bigger/younger than the barber and chooses his marks carefully so as not to get a physical butt kicking.

Did you already have the cash for the first set in your pocket when he pulled the hustle?

Yes I did have the cash. Before we started playing he wanted to mark up the games and pay later. I said we pay after each game. When I won the first game he handed me a hundred dollar bill and I gave him his change so I then knew that he had at least 80 more. He seamed to be a pleasant enough guy until he tried to cheat. That's why I offered the race to three without posting. I didn't think the bet was enough to make an issue of it.

But marking them up initially without knowing this guy was an issue.

Frank...sorry about the drama. Certainly not your first rodeo.

You got another story...btw...ever consider recording some of your adventures...or write them down? Please let us know if you do.

...A shave and a haircut...by the dabarbr.

take care, and good luck in your other Vegas matches.

I've been asked do the writings and may do so someday even if it's just for friends and family to read.

Sounds like you did everything right. The smartest thing to do at this point would be to drop it. Since I've never been accused of being particularly smart I'd go back to the place to see if the guy is there and take a cell phone picture and post it on an appropriate website.

Frank dabarbr knows how to handle his matters as evidenced by not caving and giving back his winnings.

The only fault I can find in him is ;) - he said while we were playing that he was moving to NC. And then he pulled up (blame the wife Frank ). It probably saved me a lot of rent money tho. :grin-square:

Frank, did you play in any tournies? How did it go?

I would have squeezed him around the neck until he turned purple, saying "How does this feel for a foul penalty?"

I always suspected that you would make a great ref.

I hope this would be after the 2 Unsportsman Like Fouls.
