Fair to get bumped off your table by the league?

Lol............

I didn't read all the comments, but for fun-------------

could of stuck a coaster under one of the pool table legs so it rolls off a bit:wink:.

Or, accidentally spill a drink on the table........

Sorry, my mind has never been good.:angel2:

good grief.........I used to play tap league but no longer. I was a 6 in that league. there was no other table available so had to go home. the number of games should not matter but we were playing 8 ball and after 20 games and many safeties, that amounts to one game per 9 minutes. I consider that pretty good. the league was "apa" and had just started the week before with very few players so there were many tables available after they showed up. the league starts at 3 pm and I do not know when they finish. this is on a sunday afternoon. I did not start the thread to whine but to see how others would have handled it. if you want whining I could rant instead. I appreciate the insight from some responders though.
In response to your actual question what would others do.. Me I would have just given them the table even if I felt I was slighted. What do I really care. I don't have road rage and could care less if someone cuts in front of me in a line.

Others don't rule my life and that is what you let them do when you let petty things bother you so much. Am I going to say, "Oh well" if someone won't pay their rent, of course not but I am not going to over react either. You measure your response to the situation.

Was I always like this, probably not, but I would like to think that the years and my age has made me something better then that. Certainly better and happier then people who go through their days from one invented crises to another.

Tell him 'We're playing a set'.

In most pool settings, it is understood that playing a set trumps all else.

Problem solved.

I calmly would have told them to refund any money that losing the table would have cost me, if it was done I would have packed up my stick and left slightly annoyed. If they refused, I guess we'd see if they were desperate enough to make me.

Dude, that's BAD ASS. You sound really tough.

when I ran out of balls on the table . . .

When I had ran all the balls off the table and the ka-pocketa pocketa pocketa of balls rifling into pockets was silent I'd just lay my Webley-Vickers 50-80 machine pistol on the rail and ignore the interruption.

im with the op. he was rented a table and not told how long he could play. he should get to finish his sets.

how would you like it if you went to a restaurant and was told you had to leave now and hurry up as someone more important was coming in.

if the league wants to reserve a table it needs to have a reserved sign on it. if they forget or are too stupid then tough luck for them. and vis versa for anyone reserving something.

It isn't the league players' responsibility to do that after they've made an agreement with their host location. The only thing stupid here is the assumption that the players should be managing the pool hall.

If I go to a restaurant and they sit me in an area that should've been marked reserved, I'm not going to make an ass of myself and have a hissy fit over it. I will, however, expect that restaurant to make it right.

just looking for your opinion on an incident the other day. a friend and I started playing on a table around noon. it was a fairly even match that afternoon and around 3 pm in the afternoon we were tied at 10 games each. about then a league player comes over and tells us we have to give them the table as league play has started. I say WTF? what do you mean we have to leave, we have been playing on this table all day! ends up we have to give up the table as it seems that "league play" over rules private play! WTH? so my buddy and I do not get to finish our private match as another table was not available. in the future I will not go to my favorite pool hall on that day as it may happen again. I would like some feedback as to what you might have done or you think this is a fair policy? .
Part of playing in a pool room is knowing that you may get kicked off of a table for leagues and tournaments. It would have been nice if the manager would have let you know beforehand, but given that they weren't even the one to kick you off the table, that's probably not likely to happen. It sounds like the only person this was unfair to was the league player that had to ask you to move and deal with the backlash. It's not their fault that someone who works there hadn't taken care of reserving the table.

It's already been established that it was NOT the league player's responsibility. He had no right to ask/demand that anyone move. Any pool room I ever played in, any thing like that was known well in advance and taken care of. Where I played customers were put in the wrong place a bunch of times but not tournament players or league players, either. Bars, different story.

He had no right to ask/demand that anyone move.

In a civilized establishment why would he not have the right to do so? As long as he is being respectfull then what difference does it make who asked you to move from the table? If you think because he is playing league that he is less worthy of your time then it is definately not the league player that has the problem. You are correct that the establishment should have given notice, but really, who has not been pushed aside for a league or tournament.

As the room owner / manager I'd tell you 'no' and you should feel free to play somewheres else from now on.
As the player I'd be totally prepared to steal the cue ball and the 8 ball before I gave up the table and left

You mean besides me? If you think, as a regular, who spends money in the place and was spending money at the time, that doesn't/shouldn't make a difference, well, I don't know where your head is but I've a pretty good idea.

Yep..................................now if you expect all bar/liquor establishments to understand your actions and not theirs, just tell em you'll show up on the same day every week and play and drink for five hours, they might listen, but if that league has been there for YEARS, logic will always/almost always surface from a business perspective. Or you could ask em when or which night is not a league night :grin-square:

this is a good way to run off good customers. the owner is a moron.

that league player will probably play his match and not buy a thing.

Even if he does he ran off regular paying customers.

I would be finding a new place to play.

Most of the league players here buy LOT's of food/drinks.

Non- League Players? Not so much
