CSI Releases "Ten Question" Interview Series with Top Professionals!

I liked how there was only the player, and no interviewer. Even the questions were just shown in text on the screen. Good questions - the only one that seemed a little silly was "what player would you be."

Great series, enjoyed them tremendously!

Would've been cool if the Taiwanese pros were interviewed too, even if having to go through an interpreter...

Amazing how Efren and Busty each say "MIKE SIGEL" when asked who they would be. It's amazing to me how many people discount Mike's game or rank him so low when talking about best-evers.

This was super entertaining to watch. Thank you CSI.

I thought that was interesting too. Perhaps it's because they're from the generation (I know Efren is older) where they got to see Sigel's game up close and personal and play against him. The younger players probably only know what they've seen on a few Accu-Stats tapes from the 90s or what they've heard. Although I am too young to have seen Sigel in his prime I agree with Efren and Busty. Sigel's record in 14.1 and 9 ball tournaments speaks for itself.

I think these types of interviews with the pros are great for the game, great for them, and if they could be shown to mainstream sports fans, I'm sure it would pull a lot of them in to play and watch pool. One thing I believe is that you should give the players you want to interview a list of the questions before hand. Not everyone is comfortable in front of a camera and knowing what's coming at them would help relax them and make for a better interview for you, the viewer, and them...the players. Good job. Can the CSI team do a similar project with the nine junior players qualified for the World Junior Tournament in Shanghai this November? I think it would be a great show of support to these young players and hopefully inspire more young people to play this sport we all love.

I think that question gives some insight into how a player thinks and what he thinks is important.

Example: John Morra's and Ralf's answer I thought were particularly interesting.

I found it surprising that a couple of the players mentioned Ronnie O'sullivan, though no doubt about it, the guy is absolutely amazing.

We interviewed all of the Taiwanese players. Andy Chen did the translation and subtitles. They will be released with the second half of the interviews.

We were able to do this project simply because the players and production crew were all in the right place at the right time. I would like to do something similar with amateur players and juniors in the future when the opportunity is available.

Here is one we did with the 2014 Women's Open 8 and 9 ball Champion Kelly Issac. Different questions focused more on the experience of attending the BCAPL Nationals. Kelly's attitude about competition and improving is awesome.

Well, how about recording a simple Skype (or Google Hangout, etc) interview with each junior player? No need to fly any production crew anywhere, just keep it simple is okay...

The main thing is to give these young qualified players the exposure and bring more awareness to the sport among the youth population.

I understand doing something like this may seem above and beyond for CSI, but no doubt you guys are the most recognized and organized entity to promote our sport these days.

These nine junior players worked hard to be selected to represent USA on the world stage in November, and I think how the pool community demonstrates its support and recognition for these young players will speak volumes about the future of American pool...

(Apologies for getting off topic from the original thread.)

I guess I will answer your question with a question. You seem very passionate about this. If it is so easy to do why don't you do it and release it?

You make some quality interviews and I bet CSI and everyone else in the industry will help you get them seen. I'll even make you an offer. Make up a list of three or four questions for the kids. Have them answer with a parent or friend filming them on a cell phone. Get them to email you all the files. You send those raw files to me and I will edit them all together into something that looks as decent as the source footage allows.

I dont know who the nine kids are and honestly dont have time to find out. But I'll pledge six or eight hours to edit something if someone will take the time to get the footage.

Lost a bit of respect for Ralf... I had always pictured him more humble.. he really came off as arrogant.

Great series thanks for the effort..

Interesting hearing from these players. Thank you for taking the time to put that together.

Don't take this the wrong way because it was interesting to hear their opinons on the questions asked, but the questions seemed more of the type a fan in the stands might ask a professional baseball player if they had the chance rather than the questions a Double A baseball player given the opportunity to asking a pro player questions.

Not a bad thing, just not the type question I'd have thought to ask or have been as interested in knowing their answer to from the perspective of a player rather than a fan of a player.

For the sake of conversation, I mention some of the questions I had hopes to hear answered.

I would have loved to hear the answers to questions like ..

What 1 or 2 things would you stress to a beginning player to help them progress properly to higher levels.

What 1 or 2 things would you stress as most important in advancing from B+ or A level player to a better more consistent player.

What 1 or 2 things stand out in your mind that jumped your game to very high level. Was there an "ah ha" moment in your improvement?

Are there any specific things, or thoughts that enables you to achieve deep focus for extended periods of time other than proper diet and exersize?

Name 1 or 2 of the most important things you believe impact the physical part of the game such as stance, grip, alignment, delivery and elaborate on them if you would.

Name 1 or 2 of the most important things you believe impact the mental part of the game and elaborate on how to develop them.

Anyway ... maybe in the future you might be able to ask a few of these type questions. Again , thanks, interesting responses.

Great job Justin; these are terrific.

To those that thought Thorsten's was good, I agree, he's a good interviewee. You should check out his interview on American Billiard Radio from this past February. Very insightful answers. Regarding Bonus Ball (remember that?), his is the only interview I ever heard that laid out the pros AND cons.

These format reminds me of a series of interviews Jim Murnak did a few years ago. Those are well worth checking out. He interviews players like Mika, Jenn, Jeremy Sossl, Tony Robles (he has an amazing back story).
