All Japan Championships

I know what watchez is talking about, you seem clueless?

If you think any significant percentage of "the public" knows what the WPA or Mosconi Cup even is than I am afraid you are the clueless one.

If you want to comment try to at least comprehend the discussion before making a reply.

My comprehension is quite good, you being clueless is apparent.

The discussion is that some people are stating the horror of SVB not going to the Japan Open cause the #1 ranking is so extremely important to the success of American pool. This couldn't be farther from the truth. These are people that need to reevaluate what is reality.

Beyond the countless threads on here involving the Mosconi Cup, Facebook posts as well. Very little discussion on who is ranked #1 and even less on who has won the prestigious Japan Open. And the history of these two is even less noticed.

I'll bet more people can name how many Mosconi Cup teams Mike DeChaine has been on than can name, from any year, who was ranked #1 say in the time frame of 2007-2011.

Kudos to Shane for having the mettle to put the Mosconi team first.

Im sure you know the All Japan Championship and the Japan Open are 2 different events with the former being the most prestigious by quite a bit.

So sick of hearing this argument. Really, what have the Ko brothers won in line of major tournaments? The elder beat Shane by a whole 4 games in a race to 21 so he is better?

Not necessarily, but Shane's record against Ko is 0-3.

Something to think about, surely.

I'm not sure he does.

As you pointed out earlier in this thread, it's not about choosing between the Mosconi and the All Japan Championship; it's about choosing between the All Japan and a PRACTICE SESSION for the MC.

I really would like to know just what Shane's reasoning is behind his decision.

IT's not even about choosing a practice session...

I'm not sure he does.

The truth is we don't know what it's about. We know that Shane is not going to the all japan open and that he is going to be hanging out with and playing with his fellow mosconi cup members.

That's all we know. We don't know reasons, what has been said behind the scenes or anything else, and it would all be conjecture and speculation to pretend differently.

imo the Mosconi Cup is mainly about handling the pressure. Since the races are so short, the actual outcome of a match even depends significantly on luck. Especially with the stupid 3ball-kitchen-rule.

However, my point is that u cannot really train pressure situations with your team mates in some training session in some pool room. That is why I think Shane would have had the better opportunity in Japan to train handling pressure...

Shane will have his reasons for sure. And we might find out one day.

No I didn't know. Thank you for further helping to make my point for me.

I do know that the Mosconi Cup is every December. I do know it is USA vs Europe. I do know the event this year is sold out. Europe has won 4 in a row and is something like 100 games winner, playing races to 5, in that time.

I couldn't tell you one person that has won either of these Japanese events ever. No matter what their names are.

I couldn't tell you who the last 5 WPA ranked #1 players were the last 5 years. And I am on this site 4-5 days a week. Talk to people in pool all the time.

Welcome to St Louis SVB. Get some toasted ravioli and prepare to win the Mosconi Cup.

Wrong on what exactly? What in this thread is it that you find/found "wrong"? That i do not think the general public knows much about pro pool?

I mean, it is all great a pool fan on AZB knows something about the sport, that is very impressive of you, want a cookie? But i was obviously (to everyone BUT you) not talking about fans of the sport posting on AZB...

Yes, but it was 8-ball. Shane hasn't beat Ko Pin Yi in rotation pool in recent memory.

And I highly doubt he would have beat Ko in 8 ball had he been in the right frame of mind after seeing a ghost they brought back to life
