Mosconi Cup Unpicked Players Bail Out

If the players themselves are not interested, what good is it to continue the Mosconi Cup?

The players themselves are interested, just not the rejected players which is understandable. Regardless, if they profit, the production will continue and the $$ is all that matters.

If it's a whitewash, it could mean the end of this competition. It won't be exciting for sponsors and/or the viewing audience to see a team get their butts kicked.

I totally agree with this. I think this is more of an uneven balance of talent between our country and their entire European continent. If they opened it up to North America vs. Europe, things could be more interesting with people like Alex/Morra/Klatt in the mix.

country before pride, it's about the man next to me, God Corps Country.

As a veteran who gave years of my life to my country, I find the comparison between pool players playing a TV exhibition, and volunteering to serve in the military insulting.

I'm not as impressed with Canada's strength in pool, though Alex is no contest. He's be a welcome addition on anybody's team, if you can keep his mind on pool and keep his mind out of the casinos and away from alcohol. ;)

This new Greek guy has got my attention. I really like him. I'll be rooting for Team USA, but Shane by himself can't hold the team together. Corey, of course, is capable of shining brightly, though I have not read too much about him lately. Schmidt is a scrapper and will come to the aid when needed. I've seen him turn on before when he wants to win, and he's got killer instinct. The two young American pups are full of vigor and drive. Team USA has a shot.

I just like Team Europe better to win. :(

I tried out for the basketball team my freshman year of high school. I was one of the last cuts but sadly didn't make the team. They didn't think I was good enough to be part of the team, so I wasn't part of the team. I guess I could have been the water boy but I chose to do something else with my time.

How do you totally miss the comparison you made? You got cut from the team. You were no longer a team member. Three players did not get cut from the MC team. They were determined to not be first squad. They elected to cut themselves from the team. Big, big difference.

By your analogy, anyone on the bench should just quit and go home.

IMO are chances all depend on the score after the first day. If we can jump out to a good lead, I believe we can hang on to win the cup. JMO. Johnnyt

Some of you may remember getting on the bus for an away game knowing the best you could hope for is to come home with no splinters in your ass. It was a small sacrifice for the team.

I played varsity basketball for state ranked team as a junior. Rode the bench every game and only saw playing time if it was a thirty point blow out. Got my behind kicked by the starting squad every practice and worked hard to push them to the limits.
Senior year I started every game.
That's how it works in ALL team sports.

The 3 are not "on the bench," they didn't make the team. Conjuring up titles for them doesn't change the fact that they have no role whatsoever during match play.

Cleary's analogy is accurate, unless you're grasping at straws.

I'm not the one "grasping", or making excuses.;)

I don't think you understand. Oscar, Brandon and Jeremy DID NOT MAKE THE TEAM. They wouldn't be playing even if they went to England. They wouldn't be "2nd string". They wouldn't be "riding the bench". They DID NOT MAKE THE TEAM. How do you people not understand this?

3 things I have learned so far from reading this thread.

1. Kudos for Justin B coming in and posting his thoughts in a respectful manner
2. Re read Watchez post again (props brotha)
3. Kid Dynamite is failing at the internetz

...3. Kid Dynamite is failing at the internetz

Kid is loyal to his friends and to himself. Nothing wrong with that. We are each entitled to have strong opinions on this topic. In this regard, Brandon Shuff is a homeboy to all of us in this region of the country. We love Brandon. He has a loyal following. :)

There is nothing wrong with that, but it looks like selective reading and biased opinions are sort of making some (not all) of his arguments lose some of their luster. To each there own and I am loyal to my friends (almost too loyal sometimes lol). To each their own...

Now back to AZ Days of our lives on a Monday

A reminder though, you were picked to be part of the roster for that team. These three that "bailed" aren't part of the team as they were not picked to be on the team.

The better analogy is to say these three didn't get picked for varsity team are now the junior varsity team. And as such should be attending 'school' functions. But alas, tryouts and team seem to lose their meaning around personal opinions.

This! I quoted just so everyone could read it again for better comprehension.

Tell that to the half million legue players

1

On my league team, we have everyone show up, because anyone could play that night. The three in discussion wouldn't be getting played, and they knew it. They're not on the official team roster. They got courtesy titles, equivalent to participation trophies.

I really believe the whole thing backfired when the silly job titles and descriptions were announced. They should have just let the other (3) guys tag along. No need to create bullshit titles and make the whole damn thing corny as hell. The other (3) guys should have been able to participate in the background without the silly job descriptions.
