Coverage of mosconi matches in progress

missed the first 4 matches (can"t believe it, ive been waiting for this ALL week, but my i'm losing my memory so bad) anyway:

1: i'm happy we got a match on. last years was no fun. yeah im from Europe, yeah I'm happy we won, but that's not why you watch the mosconi. So atm USA seems like they have a team going on, and i hope they will continue at this pace

2: i really wished shane won that last match. i didn't see his other matches, but giving shane a C- is very harsh. he didn't do much wrong in his last match. daz potted some crazy risky balls if he misses and got some rolls and played greath, but shane surely looked like he was playing very loose and fast , that means he was confident.

3: lets hope i dont forget tomorrows matches. This is the most exciting tournament every year.

4: the crows already look very "rough" and its only day 1. the ref's will have there share of work to do. don't get me wrong, i LOVE the atmosphere, without it wouldn't be the mosconi, I just hope they do it respectfully and not during a shot, no matter who is playing.

5: isn't pool a fun game

Not a terrible day. John, Cory and Justin played very well.
Keep up the good work gentlemen!

IMO the Mosconi Cup is the greatest spectacle in pool, bar none. It really showcases the game in a very positive way. I think it's pretty obvious this game is a helluva lot more interesting than darts or bowling.

Actually, Corey was terrible, and at one point, Jerry Forsyth commented that he couldn't remember the last time he saw Corey playing so poorly. Justin Hall's magnificent bank of the six ball at 3-3 after a Deuel position error was the only reason they beat Boyes/Appleton. They got that point in spite of Deuel's poor play.

More play of this kind from Deuel will be a big problem. Schmidt and Hall were superb, though, as you have noted.

Yeah I thought you graded him on the curve in your analysis above.

But the sign of a great player isn't that he never has bad days, it's that he shakes it off and gets back to the table and kicks ass next time.

The first match was a bit uneven, the table seemed to play very quock and the pockets a bit on the large size, but all in all this was a great first day of the Mosconi cup.
I don't really care what team wins, even though I'm European. I just want to see great pool and even matches, like we had today. Last years Mosconi cup was a disaster for team USA.
This years team USA looks alot better, altough I dont understand why Mike Dechaine isn't on the team?

I agree with every thing you said including SVB's not so great day. One thing that really bugs me is when one player tells the other player how to shoot a shot. At this level it has to get into thier head and mess up thier rythem. I can see giving advice on safes, pushes, and kicks. Watch Efren play partners. He hardly ever says a word to his partner. Even when he had Amit for a partner he only gave advice when asked. I can't stand watching Johnny A. tell his partner how to play every shot and where he wants the ball. Almost all shots can be made and position got many different ways. Johnnyt

Now comes a double barrel of SVB.

:p

Delighted Appleton defeated SVB (for the 8th straight time, apparently), Europe deserving the overnight lead.

C- is a pretty generous rating, considering his record.

Some fabulous pool played by both teams, really looking forward to the rest of this

Who can play best under extreme pressure, this is the vital component of winning MC

The tables won't change much at all, the players aren't allowed to practice on them very much. The cloth will remain fast and the pockets will be "soft" under the TV lights.

Who can play best under extreme pressure? This is the "difference that makes the most difference" in each year's Mosconi Cup. - 'The Game is the Teacher'

I wouldn't expect them to change too much with only 40-50 games being played per day. I doubt if the table will get much use other than during the matches.

I watched a few bonus ball matches and the talking was the one thing I really liked especially during the 3 man matches. I think most 2 man doubles the talking would be minimal but could liven up an otherwise fairly quite sport. I like player who talk while the shoot playing singles also and that might not be the norm.

i noticed that as usual, after every won game/match, the entire EUR team & coach would jump up & high-five their player.

Aw geez stu I think 'terrible ' is a little strong but I hear ya. There were indeed some mistakes made. But there were also other times when you could tell that Justin and Cory were on the same wavelength and they collectively owned the table. Not a bad showing for the first match of the first day.

I think with Bonus Ball the game was so new that they were welcoming the advice.
