Final Thoughts on 2014 Mosconi Cup

You mean people who make posts calling others "snard and dickish" rather than even trying to make a substantive argument? Yeah, there's a lot of that on the internet.

Your opinion on Darren being better then shane will not change and I have no problem with that, but everytime you respond to someone's post you have some" Snard and Dickish" way of trying to prove that what you're saying is the Bible's word. This is why I stay in the action room.

Maybe it's just me but I would have a hard time saying one is better than the other. They have both proven, at least to me, that they are on equal footings.

Koop - much ado about nothing

12/2/2014 -- Van Boening and Deuel defeated Appleton and Gray 5-3

Schmidt also beat Gray in the singles and Gray played amazing that match breaking and running the 1st 3 racks, but Schmdt answered everytime with B&R's of his own. After Gray missed a combo on the 9 in game 7 he never got back to the table.

It's funny how snard and dickish people can act towards someone's opinion. I'm not gonna get in a pool debate with someone I can probably give the 6 ball to. Keep running out on your keyboard buddy.

LOL! Not THAT is some funny stuff right there. Haha! Good one.

For everyone here - support Mark Wilson and team USA! Have faith it will work out. I sure do. Just because the American team struggled here and there is not indicative of who they are. I think this is in good hands!

This is suppose to be for final thoughts on the 2014 Mosconi Cup. OK here's mine: THEY GOT MORE AND BETTER PLAYERS THAN WE DO.

That's my final thought.

Correct. Game 7 of the Schmidt/Gray match was the only game of the 8 (5-3 Schmidt) that was not a break and run. After 6 B&R's in a row, we had Game 7:

  • • Gray broke dry
    • Schmidt ran the 1, 2, and 3 but bumped the 7-ball unintentionally and got tough position on the 4-ball;
    • Schmidt missed the 4-ball;
    • Gray made a nice, long cut on the 4-ball and then missed that 5/9 combo;
    • Schmidt ran out that game and the next for the win.

So for the whole match, they each missed once, and Gray broke dry once.

Even though Gray wound up with the worst overall record (2-3) of the Euros, he may have played as well as anyone. In the Teams match, he played one game (against Schmidt) and won it. In his 3 doubles matches, he missed one shot in each match (although one of the misses was a tough, thin 9-ball from center table).

Glad you brought up Mr. Gray; he deserves some more kudos.

If Darren is saying he's beaten Shane the last 9 times they've played, I wonder if he's including this 2014 US bar table 10-ball match where Shane beat Darren 7-1.

Yes, but that was quite a while ago (March). Shane also won a couple matches (14.1 and 10-Ball) against Darren in April at the Make-It-Happen All-Stars event. But if the win streak is real, we don't really know when it started and exactly what matches it includes.

Here are the ones I can think of over the past few months. Guess I'm omitting something, but Darren has had Shane's number at least since August.

August: Appleton beats Shane in World 14.1 final:
September: World Cup of Pool Appleton/Boyes beat Shane/Strickland
October: Appleton beats Shane at the Challenge of Champions
November: Appleton beats Shane at the Accu-Stats "MIH" 8-ball

I guess typing Linwood instead of Lindenwood means I haven't been a friend of Mark's and know him for 25yrs? At least I'm glad there's someone that never makes a typo.

rball...If you've known Mark for 25 years, then you should know the name of the school...it's Lindenwood University.

Yeah, I just kinda doubt they've played 9 times since March.

That was the best played singles set of the whole tournament by both players IMO. Like you said one missed ball a piece. Gray has excellent mechanics!! I have respect for John S. to be able to answer when Gray was shooting at him hardcore! My favorite match, great stuff!

He doesn't think Darren plays better then shane does he ?

Results pickers.

Put $1 million on the light and then decide who the best pool player is in the world.

As Shannon Daulton would say, "You could hear a mouse peeing on a cotton ball right about now."

Tournament soldier vs. action man. Once you acquire the mechanical skills of pool, the determining factor for the almighty win is mental fortitude. Playing for a million bucks is quite different than racing to 5 or 9 or 11.

For those who have strong opinions about it, let's start a go-fund-me campaign for the purse. I'm in. How about you?

Lots of nerves in this years team USA. Understandable, when looking at the 2013 results.
Some great matches, but on the whole a very uneven competition.
I still feel that that the game should be 10 ball, not 9 ball and that the players at this level should be playing on 10ft tables with regular 4.5 pro cut pockets.
The very fast cloth seemed to be an issue, but the table playes the same for everyone, so I don`t really think that is a valid point.

Laughable.

Maybe we could all bet the over/under on the number of top players that have and are willing to bet $1M against another top player, in which they are a 60/40 favorite at best.

So how statistically significant is your "60/40" calculation? By what measures did you take to come up with that number? Is there a margin of error? If so, how many percentage points?

I'm not asking the players to bet a million bucks. I'm asking these strong opinionated members of this forum to put up or shut up. This my-dog-is-better-than-your-dog debate on AzBilliards sure is getting stale.

The point is both Darren and Shane are great players. To say one is better than the other is assine.
