I would imagine the people who originally invested the prize fund just chopped up what little was gained in the pot. 3 people put their own money into the pot to get it started, probably a couple thousand dollars, in hopes to make some sort of return. I cannot tell you what they brought in or what cut they take but if it was profitable they would still be doing it.

I still for the life of me don't know why Fin had to go into another room with the breaker

A few years ago, Alex lost the Master of the Table to Shane by a fraction of a point.
A bunch of posters on AZ raised a fuss about it ( I was not one of them )
The man who designed the system posted a detailed explanation ...
....and everyone was satisfied.

Sooo, I think it would be very professional od Steinway to put this matter to rest....

What other room is there at Steinway? He explained the rules to Raphael, Raphael broke and didn't make one of the money balls. Why is this so difficult?

And then someone came in and switched the balls with cubes. The cubes didn't roll well, because they're cubes, so he didn't make any of the money cubes. Then Finnegan called over a pocket tightening specialist to put voodoo on the pockets so the cubes wouldn't fall even if they got close to the pockets. I heard through a 3rd party that Finnegan changed all of the chalk on that specific table with magic 'make no money ball' chalk. With all of these things stacked against the OP, I would be mad too.


You all are REALLLLLY stretching to find something and honestly I wish there was something. I'd be right there to dig into Finnegan myself… there just isnt anything to be mad over. Guy didn't know the rules. It's pretty damn simple.

This is the second explanation! 1st was 15 balls racked and that was debunked.

Holy f*ck I'm done with this. Nothing debunked about it, Raphael broke 15balls, 10 of them counted. If you don't want to believe it, oh well. I would suggest if you take an anniversary trip to NYC, don't do romantic date at Steinway or they'll find a way to steal your $20.

I was warned when I acquired my account but I had no idea.

Now you've got me wondering why pro's don't post here, when typically I never give pro's a thought.
People also say the same thing about cuemakers posting or not on AZ, which is something I can talk about.
The reasons are the same, but I know more about cuemakers than pro pool players.

He also had no reason to burn Ralph. I can also say personally, after buying break and run tickets at Steinway a few times.... the rules are not announced to the crowd and nobody tells you the rules when you buy a ticket. Finn also says he would be more than happy to speak to anybody this. Just give him a call at Steinway any Monday or Wednesday night.

And after TWENTY-FIVE pages, we finally arrive at the crux of the matter!

Different rules for different skill leveled players.

PERHAPS even many of the railbirds were not aware of the different rules, or that there were "dead" balls. That would explain the crowd cheering for the break.

It would have been extremely helpful, IF, when Nuts4Tascarellas elected to have Raphael shoot for him , Finnegan had taken HIM to the side and explained that Raphael faced a harder proposition than a lesser player would.

I ain't got a dog in this fight, but its possible that Nuts4Tascarellas thinks that
1) Finnegan is a scumbag for NOT explaining the rules of the proposition
and
2) a cheat for having different rules for different players.

And those can be Nuts4Tascarellas OPINIONS until the day he dies.

Every mans entitled to an opinion.

Kid, I have known you to be a reasonable poster for a long time, and I respect your opinion. It's possible that the op at one time, saw 10 balls racked for the break and run. Possible, but that would only happen for a B+ player or lower ranked player. The ticket winner chose an open player to shoot, who had to deal with having to make a money ball to continue, plus deal with 5 extra blocking balls. Had he asked the rules, he would have known this. He admits he's new, so how would he know? Makes sense to me that different rules should apply to different speed players. The grand prize pot isn't supposed to be there as easy pickens. I can't say the guy was celebrating his anniversary a little too hard, but I will tell you this: Manny makes some pretty strong drinks.

I didn't ask Finn this, but I would be willing to bet that if he called Ralph to the side it was in order to verify the rules with him. If anything, Finn made the mistake of figuring that Ralph would explain the rules to the guy if he had to. Instead of that happening, the guy stormed off and whined about it a year after the fact.

Really I have been and seen hundreds of big racks and never heard of such a thing don't you think the rules should be explaind before the rack or better yet when he chose another player to break , and we are still wondering what Finn told the breaker in the room the corner or where ever that was again something I have never seen before

As I explained earlier, if they tried to announce a long rule set over the mic, nobody would listen. The way I've seen it done at Steinway, most players pass on the raffle tickets, and a random local patron usually ends up winning the draw. When that happens, the shooters still know that if they get picked to shoot....they stand to win money. That made the whole event exciting for everybody. Theres absolutely no way in hell that Finn would risk his reputation by attempting to create "an arrangement" with every player in the house. He went over the rules with Ralph on the side, why is that so strange? He sees Ralph every day, hes the guy to worry about pissing off, not the raffle winner.
