Finnegan is a crook and a scumbag.

OP says, "I told him he was getting a healthy chunk of whatever was made."

Was this said to impress the wife or to come off as cavalier guy on vacation not worried about the cash ?

Regardless I guess you saw something bad coming when the TD took Rafael to the back room first.

Maybe some witnesses can throw in some facts. The thread is too large to read through it all.

If, in fact, that was said to the shooter it most likely would have been to incentivize him into shooting his best, and not as you suggest. IMO

no opinion

I do not have an option on the matter at all but good luck trying to win a slander suit in court. Most likely would be handled out of court and wouldn't be worth it for the parties involved. Just wasted money. Also, being on tv as a possible reality celebrity would make it even more laughable to suggest.

This is, sadly enough, the best thread on AZ in a while. Maybe we need something really outrageous to happen before more good material comes forth. Maybe Donald Trump will run for President. Nahhh....

Some people might be wondering why Nuts4Tascarellas can get away with calling Finnegan a "scumbag and a cheat" in a thread title on the main page, and not get banned or have the thread removed.
After all, the forum rules clearly forbid personal attacks, correct?

Actually, they forbid personal attacks against MEMBERS (emphasis, not yelling).

You can say anything you want about Obama, Miley Cyrus, the Green Bay Packers, or Dale Earnhardt,Jr ~ because they're NOT members.

But members have protection, and if Finnegan WAS a member, this thread would get locked and sent to the basement.

Finnegan is in fact a member, under the handle "finnegan".

However, he has been inactive since 2008-9. Is there a statute of limitations?

I just spoke to Finn over the phone about this. He says the guy never bothered to ask the rules of the break and run. The misunderstanding occurred because for every skill set, there was a different rule set for the break and run. The rule for an open player, which Ralph was at the time, was that he had to make a money ball in order to continue shooting. Had the winner of the draw chosen a B+ or lower ranked player to shoot, the other 5 balls would not have been used. If the guy would have stuck around to ask instead of stomping off, this would have all been explained to him.

I know Finnegan for about 30 years, and I have always known him to be fair. He has ran tournaments in Queens for over for 17 years now.....being fair is part of his job, and he's good at it. Finn isn't a cheater and has never been. The guy drives a 70,000 car, he's got no reason to scam anybody(especially with a full crowd of people watching the break and run). He also had no reason to burn Ralph. I can also say personally, after buying break and run tickets at Steinway a few times.... the rules are not announced to the crowd and nobody tells you the rules when you buy a ticket. Finn also says he would be more than happy to speak to anybody this. Just give him a call at Steinway any Monday or Wednesday night.

That was a mistake.

That was a mistake.

It's a weekly tournament with the same regular crowd. We also have a unique handicap system for the tournament.. if this guy wondered in to play he wouldn't have understood that system either. This guy should have asked.

I think the thread should have been pulled also but it's not up to me

Perhaps, but the break and run was usually more for fun. It always gathered a big crowd which the patrons really enjoyed. But anybody who cared or was serious enough about it, was free to ask the rules before buying in. With a different rule set for every skill level, the exact terms would be too long to announce over the mic. If they tried, nobody would listen anyway.

Public name calling takes it to another level. A thread about it, a step beyond that. Keeping it alive for a week without Finn even being here to defend himself? Seriously?

The reason I said it was a mistake not to explain the rules is precisely because it has resulted in a long thread in which "Finn" is having his integrity questioned.

I sometimes watch Pat Fleming's weekly game show. He explains the rules. If an outsider shows up which happens sometimes Pat makes sure they know the rules beforehand.

There is a way to prevent this from happening. I can think of multiple explanations but what I find curious is Finn taking the designated breaker aside to have a conversation with him. Then a ball fell and the op was told it didn't count - you can't understand why the guy felt like the got hosed?

When they decided to end the contest what happened to the money?

He explains the rules because he's broadcasting it live on the internet and he wants as many new viewers as possible. Steinway has the same ol crowd except for the karate kid here.

I would imagine the people who originally invested the prize fund just chopped up what little was gained in the pot. 3 people put their own money into the pot to get it started, probably a couple thousand dollars, in hopes to make some sort of return. I cannot tell you what they brought in or what cut they take but if it was profitable they would still be doing it.

The donated it to charity! No seriously i have no idea but that did happen to me once. These guys were collecting $$ to send a player to a tourny overseas. They had some fund raiser with a $20 admission but i donated an extra hundred-120 in all.

6 months later i found out the player had refused to accept the money and it all had been "donated to charity"
