This was reported on Facebook by Bill Smith (Mr3cushion) and just confirmed to be true. RIP, Lou!

From Bill: Sad news again in the billiard industry! Just heard from my good friend, Charlie Ursitti a VERY good friend of Lou 'Machine Gun' Butera, that He passed away today! He'd been suffering from 'Parkinson's' decease for awhile.
R.I.P Lou!

A True Gentlemen

Lou, was a great person and he treated me well.
RIP Lou.
My condolences to his family.

To Sal and Family, what great guy. Got to play em and see em and talk with him quite a few times, and always remember that table he had at his business. 9 footer with Three Different sets of detachable rails....Snooker, Pocket & 3 Cushion. Not sure if it was early seventies or late seventies. But as a young man it was neat. When I first saw Lou's Tommy Gun holding cue case, it was Neat. Sorry for your loss....I was very fortunate of known this man.

To the best of my memory, Lou's Tip Tapper was the first mainstream tip tool. Look at all the tip tools that passed through the trail he blazed.
Thanx! Machine Gun Lou!!! RIP

I am very saddened to hear this. Lou was one of the really Good Guys.
My deepest condolences to friends and family. RIP ... Machine Gun Lou

Mid 1990's at the Bicycle Club in Bell Gardens, Calif. Sitting around the practice table casually shooting the s--t in the middle of the day were Buddy Hall, Billy Incardona and Steve Mizerak. All of a sudden someone steps out from the Tournament Room and says "Lou is doing it again." In unison all three jump up and rush into the room. The unexcitable were suddenly excited.

Always sad when one of the special ones leaves us.

Condolences to family and friends.

1994

Lou Butera was the first Pro Pool player I ever really talked to it was in Cleveland at a straight Pool tournament in 1994. I was so impressed with Lou that I would try my best to mimic him when I played. My best friend John started calling me Machine gun. I am very sad to hear of his passing and send my condolences and prayers to his family.

R.I.P Lou.

Definitely one of a kind and an old schooler. I saw him do an exhibition in Austin, Texas, around 1975. When he asked for questions, I asked him his opinion of Fats, and he wasn't complementary. I had one of his tip tappers too. Might still have it somewhere.

Sorry to hear of Lou's passing. My condolences go out to Lou's family.

I met Lou years ago in Las Vegas while he still owned Pool Sharks. He was kind enough to visit with my best friend and I for several minutes and he signed my Palmer Custom hustler cue that I have had since my college days.

Meeting Lou will always be one of my fondest memories from my years of playing this game that enchants us all.
