Pro Players and Tattoo's

Joey, was the question about Johnny's enlistment (because the DD-214 shows that he was indeed in the army), or was it about his claimed MOS? The document you produced is a bit dim, but I think it shows only two, and that is from mechanics helper to mechanic. Can you clear any of this up? I know nothing about the Army.

The DD 214 only shows one MOS mechahic helper. Next box is what I did before the service...mechanic. There is only 2 #'s and ond letter like a few pointed out. If you read my first post about my MOS you see I said I really didn't remember the #'s.

I didn't give a shit what I did or where I was sent while in the service. I was on my own from 14 and didn't enjoy some 18 yo 2nd lewy trying to tell me how to fix a truck or track, or shoot a gun. I barely got out of the service W/O doing time. I had many artical 14's, but just like on the outside of the Army I knew the right people to do favors for.

I never really argue on here, but saying that I lied about ever being in the service. That pissed me off.

As far as Ft Greely (Artic Test Board) I was sent there 6 months TDY from Wainright to escape a court marshal for getting caught with a native American woman...in my bunk one morning.

If you look up Greely back in the 1960's, you will see there was a lot of secret shit going on there that covered up to this day. I was a nobody and had several pretty high clearances.

Believe me, I've lived a very full life and don't need to lie or BS. Johnnyt

Johnny, I thank you for your service, and I apologize for doubting your veracity. I am doing this because I said I would. All the best.

Jesus, I cannot stop watching that... Damn...

I understand being pissed off from me accusing you of "not ever being in the service". Thing is, you have to remember, some of your details were completely outlandish and not consistent with the Army such as:

"Having 5+ MOS's in a two year span"-
The Army would never take the time to train and re-train you 5+ times, in your 1 yr, 9 month active duty. If you factor in the training time for each MOS change, lets say ~6 weeks for arguments sake, then you would have spent 30+ weeks in training. The Army is not gonna train you, let you try something out for a couple months, then get fickle and re-train for something new 5+ times.

"Trained with cold weather Special Forces"-
Typically, in most cases, the Army is not gonna send an E-1,63A(mechanic's helper) to train with the Spec Op guys. I could see you assisting the mechanics, working on some of their vehicles...

"two or three MOS's in the low 600's"-
As mentioned before, most two year guys have only one MOS (and none in the low 600's)

"At Greely (Artic Test Center) I tested a lot of stuff, like the M-15 rifle, tanks, multi fuel trucks, and a few other things"-
Again, since when does the Army take an E-1 Private with a mechanic's helper MOS and have him test things outside of his specialty?? The M-15 was new and unproven at the time. Why would the Army take a mechanic's helper with no other qualifications i.e. Rifle Expert to test a rifle prototype?

As far as Ft Greely (Artic Test Board) I was sent there 6 months TDY from Wainright to escape a court marshal for getting caught with a native American woman...in my bunk one morning. -
This is another one that makes no sense whatsoever. You just do not get trasnferred to another base to "escape a court martial". If you are being court martialed, they are gonna drag you on the carpet, regardless of what post you are at.

Also, your edited DD 214 is missing some identifiers, especially your name and Army Service Number?

Do you now see how crazy some of this sounds??

Regardless, I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt.

John Terrell,

I hope you will accept my apology for accusing you of not being in the service. I'm sorry for making false accusations, being too quick to accuse and disparaging your earned respect and honorable discharge.

In addition, I want to thank you for your time spent serving our great nation.

A buddy of mine had the luckiest time in the Army I ever heard of...You know how the army likes to post people as far from home as possible? So, this Oregon kid got posted first in Pine Bluff Arkansas...the Army didn't know that both his parents were from there...he had cousins all over the place.

His final post? Japan...never made it to Vietnam while it was going on.

Yeah, lucky...

Oh...and to stay on topic...he never did get a tattoo.

Loser.... (I guess with what's going on in this thread and in other threads I should point out that I am just joking) I didn't put a smiley face or anything else and was just making a chirp that the guy was a loser for not having a tattoo. I don't want anyone thinking I'm saying the guy was a loser for anything else other than a laugh).

Slaves and tattoos

Some of you may not know the story of Olive Oatman. Well, you may in a roundabout way. There was a female on the show who was tattooed on her chin. She was a pretty tough woman as most women were at that time in our country's history. The woman on the tv show Hell on Wheels with the tattoo on her chin represented the story of Olive Oatman whose family was attacked. Her parents were killed along with four of their seven children. Olive and her sister were captured by the Indians (Apache or Yavapai) and were used as slaves and later they were traded to the Mojave tribe where she received her chin tattoo. Some people say that the Mojave tribe tattooed their people to insure a good afterlife but Olive said it was to mark her as a slave. (I believe Olive's account) Years later, Olive was reunited with her brother who survived the massacre of their family. Her sister died during a famine. Olive was 19 when she was returned to her people. "And now you know the rest of the story."

I don't really feel like commenting, Joey. My feelings are hurt.
Yesterday, Rose said all I can talk about is shit, and Hobbs said my internet habits were weird. I haven't felt good all day.
You know, a fella tries to do what he thinks is right around here, but there's always someone busting his chops. Sometimes I wonder if it's all worth the trouble.
Say! Who's the woman in the picture, and what's that thing on her chin? Oh, my God! That's not Leprosy is it? I hope not. I know there used to be a girl who worked for Sally (you remember Two-Tooth Sally don't you), who had leprosy. She was a sad case. Her business kept falling off.
Anyway, I think I'll go take a nap before supper. See ya.

you know you're too into pool when you see a picture like above and your first thought is, cool, I wonder how they got scoring beads on her chin? :embarrassed2:

thx for the story Joey.

best,
brian kc

I have one of those, too, and proud of it.
There is a box, either on the DD-214, or it's accompanying form that asks: Recommended For Re-Enlistment (yes, or no). Mine, and I'm sure Joey's, is marked yes. Many, however, were marked no because of less than sterling performance while on active duty.
At ease, pool players. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
