"Bushwacker" vs. McCready

Hi,
My name is Jamie. Do you know how I could contact Gary Nolan? I just bought a cue that I was told was Gary's and wanted to send him s pic to see if he remembers it or if he won any big tournaments with it. Thanks for any help you can give

Jamie

He posts in the Wanted for Sale section under the screen name bushwhacker. He has a Tonkin and a Tascarella for sale currently. You can log in and send him a PM.

geometry of a chalk cube?

anybody care to explain?
-

A piece of chalk is approximately 1-1/8 of a inch from corner to corner...
A pool ball is 2-1/4 from edge to edge.
Point the chalk at the pocket from the OB then aim at the cut shot aiming at the outer point of the chalk. Have someone remove the chalk when you've got your aim locked in and shoot. Bang! You cut it in!

Ship the fiddy'

Now maybe you guys will start listening to me when I tell you why I
had to bar Bushwhacker from playing any more pool

(I still buy and sell cues from him,and recommended him as an honest
knowledgeable cue man worthy of all respect and trust)

But lrt me warn you about his pool.Iwas at Rustys pool room
waiting for a hustler looking for easy money one night when Gary
came in looking for action,Now.i was the worst player in the house but
I could match up and had money so my game plan was to ask for the nuts
and make people play high as I found this made even the best players
react with caution leading to timidity and over safe shots which
produced the lack of bravado that fathered great pool, so I got
Gary to give me the nuts and bet high(several hundred dollars)

All was going my way Gary spent all his efforts trying to not sell out,
ducking risky shots and playing "smart one pocket"

Everybody was having a good time, when some worthless rail bird pipes
in and says"You are showing this no playing chump too much resoect
or words to that effect"

So Gary says'
" let, play much higher'"

I said"fine"

Now I leave him long and straight ,The rail"bird says,
"nothing is safer than running out"

So Gary fires the ball in,banks another one in
and runs out on me

So now I figure to play him real tight and leave him long shots
that
even good players shy away from.

Well Bushwhacker says "I am a 9 ball player,I feel more comfortable shooting instead of ducking"

So I say lets jack the bet

He says *you sure you can afford it"

I said,with all the v
confidence of a man nourished with several huge wins with the nuts,
"no problem"lets double it again"

So he runs out again.

You ask"Didn't this cause alarm bells to go off."

I reply"I had seen this before and knew exactly how to handle the situation"

I unscrew and open dialogue conducive to keeping the door
to the avenue of commerce open depending upon a healthy adjustment
of my already healthy spot ( handicap reflecting the difference in our abilities)

I am getting the break and something so big like 10 to 4. so I said "this should enable us to compete on equal footing"

Gary agrees and so we jack the bet again,a common practice reflecting
our commitment to our new arrangement, heck he even ordered and paid for
a round of refreshments for us both, I liked what I was thinking

To sum up the story,I quickly saw my bankroll transfer to his back pocket.
I discovered that sometimes the nuts is not enough when the guy shoots at his hole
over and over and over

I found to my dismay that

Bushwhacker had outrun the nuts

But this stupid railbird comforted me in my time of agony
by saying"don't you know who that is?"

I hate rail birds

Gary had out run the hungarian nuts

Now he asked if want to play the next day

And that is why and how Bushwhacker got barred from any more
pool action with me

Since then we have done several cue deals,he earned my respect
but he is still barred,I discovered that moves don't matter if the guy runs out

I have been told that he can not shoot like he used to anymore.
Who does?

In my mind ,nobody shoots like he used to.

I have been told I ought to play again, that I could play high
one more time

I have been told you need to saddle up,play him again
get the nuts and let him outrun em again

He is barred and will always be barred

of course if someone wants to stake me

thats different

then i wouldn't be afraid of losing
But for my money he is barred

My hat is off to him,but my wallet is closed

Actually, he just bought Lucky Break Billiards. I was there Saturday for an 8-7-6-5(hdcp) tournament. It drew some good players from all around the area.

That's why Gary wasn't at Breakers for the PA 9 Ball. Paul M said he thought Gary didn't feel well. He was missed.

Paducah

I have to smile, because I had not heard of Gary before I moved to Paducah, KY.

THEY ALL KNEW HIM, and said he was plenty tough to play.

They didn't know he was also selling cues, that's how I got to know him.

LOL

Garry played in my East Islip Poolroom on Main Street when he was about 16 years old and could run 100 at that time. Money ball and 14.1 were the games of choice in my room back then. Gary busted many a money ball game my room. Johnnyt

Good luck with your room Gary.

Gonna have to go shopping for the McCready/Nolan match at Accustats....
....nice contrast of styles....Gary holds his elbow on the opposite side of the cue....
.....Keith is side-arm....Gary has what I call a flying elbow.

I first saw Gary Nolan at Joe Farhat's room in Lansing...'77, I think.
Jimmy Mataya gave him the 8, two ahead for $500....
....Floyd got bushwhacked....:)

That was a great tournament, BTW....Sigel won a match 11-0...made six 9s on the break.
Hubbart had to drive an 8 down the long rail with top and follow the length of the table for
position on the 9...the 8 was froze on the side rail (middle diamond)...whitey was froze on
the short rail...he rattled it...said.."Those only go in when you're practicing."
Mike Carella won the tournament.

I love this .....

Gary is one one the best to deal with. As honest as they come. Gary if you read this, that TS you sold me is the best playing cue I've ever had in my hands. I will never let it go. Hope all is well.

I think they had a hooker or a showgirl or someone like that next to them during the commentary that match.

I actually cringe a bit on all the 9 balls shooting straight in on the break during the older matches, not a lot of racking quality back then.

One thing about this rare X-rated Accu-Stats match is you won't find it for sale anywhere. Grady Mathews and Keith's stakehorse are the main commentators. Billy Incardona comes by and chats for a while. A female also joined in the festivities.

I have asked Pat Fleming if I could post it up on YouTube, but he said no. I have to abide by his wishes.

The commentary is hilarious, thanks to Grady. Poor Keith and Gary had no idea what was being said in the booth, which makes it even more funny. :grin-square:

Met Gary for the first time at Super Billiards Expo in the early 2000s era, and he graciously allowed me to snap his photo. :)

Gary's picture was hung on the wall of the late Tim Scruggs shop. You had to be a good player to have your picture on that wall.

Six 9s on the break. Ugh. That's some bad racking there...

It wasn't unusual "back then" either. I have video recordings of several old matches where the pros made golden breaks 4 or 5 times in a row. Racked by referees using wooden triangles. You can see the 9 go right into the corner without being kicked. Absurd.

Yeah, those breaks are strange....and careless racking by your opponent.
I won a big money set once finishing with three nines on the break....same pocket.
...the guy said we would play again, but he had to get racking lessons first.

My two best breaks ever, seven balls and hung one, five balls and jawed three...
....the nine never left the rack area.

That explains why I can't find a copy. Who has one I can borrow for viewing purposes? I'll pay shipping both ways.

I guess so, since you say approximately, but Masters is closer to 1-1/4" corner to corner (7/8" on a side). Not much difference in real life, but in pool...

When u put a piece of chalk touching the OB the chalk sits below center of the ball which compensates and wear on the chalk cube also compensates..

A pro player taught me this.

NOT TO BE A DEBATE.

Hi Jamie,
I sent you a PM last night. I do remember that cue.
I'll be glad to answer any questions, Gary

No debate here. In fact, even though I implied that a 1/8" difference matters in pool, I don't really believe it does. Close enough for visual estimation guided by player's instinct.

Interesting...
