Jayson Shaw's playing 1-hole 7 ahead for 90k

You've been exposed to enough elite pool enough to know that guys like us, who love the game, will never, ever be able to compete with world class players. That just isn't true with poker.

The way I explain the difference between pool and poker to people is:

"There is a chance no matter how small that I can win the World Series of Poker main event. There is absolutely no chance at all that I can win the U.S. Open 9 Ball tournament."

But what if it were on a barbox? ;)

That's why there is weight ... Of course an amateur is not going to win any tournament if he has to play straight up against better players. This is the problem with getting people to watch traditional pool on TV - they can not relate to it, no way ever do they see themselves as a competitor.

But I think an Action Pool Game where the mark, I mean the rookie gets big weight against a much better player, on a Bar Box with at least 50 dimes on the lamp, might turn viewers into participants.

It may only take one or two challengers taking it down, and just like poker many others will think they can do the same.

I'm not talking about high quality pool matches ... I'm talking big action for the everyday person in a format that they can see themselves competing and winning.

Think of it as a publicity stunt to increase participation in Pool.

However, there may be reasons why I am not in the TV business.

I hope the money was posted or I'm calling Chris a dummy.

I could be wrong here, but I think when dippy played Frost a few years back in vegas for 6 figures, Jean Robert Ballande (sp?) held the money, and The rumor was he spent most of the match time at the poker table. Not sure i would pick a guy with the tagline "broke and living like a millionare" to hold 250k or whatever it was.

Then it wouldn't be the US Open. It would be something else.

Yeah, well that is the direction it's heading. Unless the players make a stand, U.S. Open 9-ball is headed right for the BB.:boring:

The writing is on the wall.
Disgusting.

Been games like this at Good Times all week. Teddy Garrahan from New York is part owner. A pretty good player himself.

Teddy had a goal to play in the WPC in Cardiff which he finally achieved in 2004 give or take a year. He took tons of pictures, said he had reached his goal and more or less just retired from pool after the tourny.

If memory serves me which is not always the case-He was a 'NY Player' but actually lived in NJ.

Ted "Teddy G" "The Magic Man" is from North Jersey. He made the final 32 at Cardiff in 2003.

He's good with the cards and assorted magic tricks too (go figure).

The AzB database shows he was 17th-32nd at the World 9-Ball Championship in 2003, played a bunch of Joss events in 2004 and 2005, and played the IPT events in 2006. No earnings are shown after that.
