Top Ten Pool Players

The only one I have issue with is M Fats. Certainly one of the top hustlers and self-promoters, but he stayed away from playing the top players of his time.

I don't have much opinion on the other "pre-video age" players since I never got to see them play, but other people have Harold Worst very high on their lists.

top 10

Fats should not be in the top 100 list. Or 1000 for that matter.

Disagree, Many have said this because they read it in a book or two and probably Mosconi's as he hated him. But he was a very good player not in the top ten but probably in the top 20. When it came to high stakes he almost always won. Buddy too low and H. Worst in top 4.

Top ten.

Babe cranfeild is hands down in top three if not the best. Plus he played while holding a job. Second greenleaf third mosconi fourth crane then Sigel. You could argue about the rest how ever you'd like.

Just counting a player as being in the top 10 all time...

I have no problem with:

Reyes, Greenleaf, Mosconi, Lassiter, Sigel, and Strickland

Debatable, but still a case can be made for:

Archer and Hall

Don't belong on the list, IMHO:

Fats and Allen

Who else I would put in the top 10 of all time:

Harold Worst

I now I am going to sound biased here but Nick Varner has 8 world titles in all games. 8- Ball, 9-Ball, Banks, 14.1 and one pocket. All around player has to be on the list.

Fats, great for the sport and could have been on stage talking about anything and he chose pool. However NOT in the top ten.

As far as the old timers, I think its hard to gage as things have changes so much. Maybe it was a harder game back then or maybe they would have had a problem with 860 cloth and jump cues etc.

I have heard many TOP level, world champions and hall of famers say that Buddy Hall was the greatest 9-Ball player ever and he ain't too shabby in other games either.

Ronnie Allen I don't know enough about. I met him a couple of times but I really don't know much about his career.

Varner though??

The photo attributed to Ronnie is actually Richie Florence.

Here's my all time top ten, based on what I've seen and heard.
1.Ralph Greenleaf 2.Willie Mosconi 3.Efren Reyes 4.Harold Worst 5.Luther Lassiter 6.Jimmy Caras 7.Irving Crane 8.Jose Parica 9.Steve Mizerak 10.Mike Sigel
Honorable Mention - Babe Cranfield, Earl Strickland, Buddy Hall & Nick Varner

Lol:) obviously Harold Worst has to be in there but it truly surprises me very few give Parica the credit he deserves!

Ya know, you watch parica 30 yrs ago and then today,,,,, he never changed anything with his style! Same stroke, set up, and demeanor! EVERYONE else changed a bit here and there! But not "amang"

Jay, I know you have a lot of knowledge about the Philippine pool scene, so what would be your list of the 10 greatest Filipino players of all time?
I imagine Efren, Parica, and Busty would top the list, but I'm curious as to where the other players would rank after that.

Irving Crane rates much higher that Babe, and Irving's name is conspicuously absent from this list.

I'll admit I'm a major fan of Willie but I won't argue his placement. Crane has to be there someplace and whoever came up with Fats is a flaming anus orifice.
