Real Pool Reality Show crowdfunding

Let's look at this in a completely optimistic light. The Hustlers actually had 1,000,000 viewers on one of the shows as far as I understand. Well, If one percent of those people 10,000 pre bought the videos to this game, the winning team of the match would get $64,000 and the players would each get $8000. The losing team would get $16,000, and each player would get $2000 for a 2 hour game. Obviously, this isn't going to happen soon, or maybe never, but it is something that I would like to see happen. It would make cross country travel possible and anything any other professional team does possible. Well, according to the haters, it will be stupid. But to me, that is the goal.

This is foolish optimism at best, and let me tell you why. This 1 million number that you're quoting is probably extremely inflated but also, it's the number of people who tuned into a cable television network to see what was on OR to watch a specific show.

Your show has no cable network, does it? So you don't have that "1% of 1 million" target to shoot for. You can't pitch this "bonus content" (the actual matches) idea to those 1 million. Instead, you're pitching this to a crowd of roughly 40k AZ users. Let's assume that at least 50% of that 40k is filled with either inactive or shill accounts OR people who haven't even bothered to read this thread at all. Now you're number is more like 20k.

Your optimistic 1% return on targeting 20k people would look more like 200 customers. 200 customers who may (or judging by the reaction of those people you targeted with this thread) probably will not buy your bonus streaming content.

Now, there are plenty of reality shows that host 'bonus' material (behind-the-scenes footage; outtakes; etc.) on their websites. But the truth of the matter is, they don't CHARGE for it. It's there as free marketing content that, once on network's site, may lead you to discover OTHER shows on said network. It's marketing collateral. It's free.

So now your idea is "just another reality show with bonus material that you have to pay for".

I'm pretty positive The Hustlers never had one million viewers. Their Nielsen rating for the first few episodes (I gave up looking after that) were nowhere close to a million. If that show had those numbers, they would already be talking about season three.

I followed the ratings fairly closely myself. To say the numbers were unimpressive is an understatement. I wanna say it was somewhere in the 100k-200k range at it's peak but I could be way off. Maybe Jim knows something we all don't. I mean, CLEARLY he does because this idea of his is deep-fried gold and we're all just haters who can't see it for the epic-awesomeness it is.

The chickens are back

Your guys are like homing chickens. No matter what I do to get rid of you, you keep coming back with the same crap.

I get it. You don't like my idea. Do you want me to say that I don't like it anymore because you have convinced me that it won't work, because of your experience of making pool related projects that work and make money for a large number of players and not just for yourselves?

Oh ya, that is a point that I want to ask you about. Since pool is sliding downwards generally, and pool players, not including a few at the top, can't make a living playing pool, what are your ideas?

Obviously, you have not changed the tide of pool so far with whatever you have done. So what are your new ideas to change the situation, or do you just want to hate?

I am offering you a spot on our show to put out your ideas. And if you want to tell everyone that you think my idea is terrible, that's fine too.

Send your videos to realpool16@gmail.com.

Jim

Jim

I have one idea that may or may not fly to be honest. But I don't bother pursuing it for one very simple reason... as horrible as this may make me seem, I simply don't care enough about the state of professional pool to start bouncing sh!tty ideas off a wall in hopes that lightning may stike and one of those sh!tty ideas will stick. I'm smarter than that AND I have other things that occupy my time. I love pool like so many others here. But I love playing it. I don't NEED to be certain that the pro-playing world is in a thoroughly fair and organized state to enjoy the game. If that's what makes YOU happy, go for it. But since you're asking other people to donate money to this cause, word of advice. Make sure the ideas don't suck first.

That said, you're embarrassing yourself with this chicken/hater/post a video crap, which is pretty entertaining for me so I'm not even going to tell you to stop. Keep it up.

A) It's a great Idea!

B) It's a bad idea...

Pick one. Nobody is trying to stop you from doing what you want to do. I have several friends involved on your cast so I hope I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure all anyone "wants" or would like to see is to have people trying to pitch a business or promotional idea act in a professional manner when doing so, in public, in front of a huge audience of potential customers.

Of course, I'm not speaking for anyone else, but being a long time member of this forum, I have some experience in reading and interacting with those whom you are calling "haters". I'm pretty sure that each and every one of them would be supporting you in a significant way here if your idea had merit, based on their experience.

Most of those folks have guys have treated you respectfully here, as they expressed their concerns about your project. In turn, you seem to stomp your feet and cry "hater!"

Believe me, these guys that you are bantering with support pool and pool players. They aren't keyboard cowboys.

I wish you luck with your project. Sincerely.

Your guys are like homing chickens.

Homing Chickens, Hahaha, I like that, had a good chuckle.

Is that like, "When Chickens come home to Roost"?

B) It's a bad idea.

Honestly Jim, it isn't that I have done anything overly Great in my own life, but, if I had have listened to everyone in my life that told me, "You don't have the education for that,
you don't have the money, you can't do that and so on, I would have likely not experienced half the things that I have in life.

As one of the main Themes in, "Death of a Salesman", Willie Lowman, found out that Dreams don't cost anything.

Implementing them further may however.

If you have an idea, and it is a good one, if the original doesn't pan out as you wished, you could always have another few angles and plans.

Plan A doesn't seem to be working. Well, hit it with Plan B. If a person only has one idea, and no back up plans, well then, all you are doing is a disservice to yourself
and your Dream.

3 of the members here, as I mentioned previously, have, as far as I know, experience in Web, Film and Promotion. Plus the opinions of other members, which are just as valuable because they have told you honestly, what they are willing to back, and or watch at a later date.

Instead of getting mad and tossing Insults, you may have been better served by messaging Justin, Watch and Cleary and asking for some advice privately.

All you have accomplished so far is to ensure that most in this Thread won't support your goal even should it come to fruition for you.

You know, the deal, Honey vs Vinegar.

Jim has known me personally for years. He's tried similar ideas several times and I've told him that his idea just doesn't work. After a failed attempt, he even told me once I was right. Trust me, I'd rather be wrong but sadly I'm not. I have too much professional experience and real world knowledge.

Every idea will have people that like the idea and people who don't like the idea. If you don't like the idea then don't get involved, if you do like the idea then support it. This show does not need every pool player to support it. As long as the people watching enjoy what they see that is all we need to continue. No one can predict every project that will succeed or fail. Even if you have been successful in the past or failed in the past, that has nothing to do with your future endeavors. If all you've learned from a past failure is to not try it again, then you shouldn't be playing pool. Some people think that trying something over and over again expecting a better result is insane, but eventually you will call them an A level player. If people in this forum have tried Jim's exact same idea and failed, or know that his idea has been tried before and failed, you are welcome to join us when we succeed. And we will publish everything we've done so even if we do fail, others can hopefully learn something from all this.

The fact is that these guys like to hit, but like most bullies, they don't like to be hit back. Read the thread and you will understand why I am responding like I have.

Tell you what. I will write a response from all of you who hate the idea and you can be done with it. You can use it the next time I come on here with another idea.

Dear Mr. Murnak, Our little group at AZ Billiards does not like your new idea to do a Reality show to try to make money for players for many reasons. First off, why would you want to help those lousy pro pool players make money, even though they may be the only point where people may watch pool. And why are you also trying to make the pool profession more viable for future players?

Your idea just can't work. We know because none of our ideas have worked, so we are very experienced in failure. Many people have tried what you are trying to do, even though we really don't know what you are trying to do because we haven't actually seen it yet.

Another reason your idea can't make any difference is because you have no experience like we do. We are professionals and you are not. We know that you are generally 25 years older than us, but our life experience is much greater than yours. The fact that you made a movie that will be screened in the New Filmmakers Film festival in New York in March and you did a Sharks web series that had over 50,000 views, shouldn't give you the idea that you can do a production anywhere close to what we can do, because as we said before, we are professionals. By the way, we hated Sharks too.

And for you to make the most unreasonable request of asking us to buy a $10 video stream is an insulting and disgusting thing for you to do because we never did it. You should go by our rules because in our cumulative experience, we know that what we have done really hasn't helped pool at all and we want to keep it that way.

Now, to enforce our rules to keep you in line, we will find people who are willing to help you and try to humiliate them for even thinking that they should help you or be involved with you.

In summary, we have never said anything bad to you, and you call us Chickens because we will not go public on your show, which by the way is sure to fail, even though as we said before, we really don't know what is in it. We must know all of your thoughts so we can tell you if you can go on. And, who are you, just a maker of over priced cases, of which by the way none of us have, to tell us that you are going to get into our business of making pool great again. Because that's what we do, except we haven't done it yet, but stay out anyway.

You are a sad, stubborn, immature, simple-minded, stupid little man.
But all of these make for a WILDLY entertaining individual so don't you change a thing Jimmy!

I know there are people reading this forum who want to see what we will produce in less than a month. Even if you won't admit it, I'm writing this to you anyway.

Technology has been increasing at such a fast pace that it is allowing anyone with an idea to give that idea a chance. To film a pool match in 4k video quality, and capture audio at over 145dB ranges costs < $1,000. Having low cost production allows us to give 80% of the $10 stream directly to the players.

Even if our idea does not last, I hope that today's world of lower cost hardware can allow many others to try out ideas that could have only been dreams just a decade ago.

I understand that what we are doing is threatening to the already established pool video companies. They have invested thousands of dollars in state of the art equipment. Our concept does not replace anything you do. If anything we give you more exposure. How many people have heard of Darren Appleton's instructional pool video before this post started.

We give all the players on the reality show a stage to show why they use their sponsors equipment. They can talk about anything they want and do anything they want. This is how pool should always be; uncensored.

- Robert, (I donated $10)

The Powerball draws tonight, I'm sure that's what we're waiting on

LOTTO MAX or Lotto649 here (43M and 7M CAD respectively)

Dave <-- still wouldn't donate or buy a stream ... simply don't care about some arbitrary pool players (in NYC ?) and their lack of $, rather support the local pool hall and play

Donations

So does all of the donated money gets refunded if this doesn't fly on the date the match is suppose to happen ?

This sort of message is completely uncalled for.

That's one.

lol yes please don't make your video it would crush the sales of our video that's making us unbelievable amounts of money. Hahaha #postingfrommyyacht

The goal of these videos is to break even. I've spent more in one night in a strip club than I've profited on an instructional video. But as Murnak put it, it's because I'm a failure. lol
