Dennis Orcollo contract

I really hope Darren and Jayson didn't sign something like this...

If other players signed it (especially players of that caliber) then he very well might have put the final nail in Pool's coffin as opposed to "helping" it like it was to be believed.

Who believed that? Oh yeah, I saw all the people on Facebook saying how great it was.

And the notary that signed this - was on Facebook last night continually bashing the Sword Brothers. So now a notary has an interest in pool as well?

Some people did. I didn't, especially after the last match. I did buy this stream because I wanted to see the match. I think pool is waaaay past needing just a rich savior... it needs a damn miracle on top of that.

You can throw money at it all you want, you also need the players to think with their heads and not their wallets, that's where the miracle will come in.

This is why people need lawyers.

A smart move on French's part would have been to make sure that Dennis hired a qualified, Tagalog-speaking, lawyer to review the contract and explain it to him (Dennis). If he had done that, then Dennis would have clearly understood what he was agreeing to.

I, of course, have no idea if Dennis actually did understand the contract - maybe he did. Or maybe someone told him the contract did not apply to tournament winnings and Dennis' English is not good enough for him to understand what it says. It would not shock me that Dennis' written English is weak.

Of course, it is possible that had Dennis properly understood this, the contract would have either been extensively revised (to place some real obligations on French) or that would not have been finalized at all, but better that than entering into an agreement and have the relationship go south.

It's pretty funny that John French claims he's trying to help pool. Meanwhile he's taking 50% from people who cannot live off 100%. Typical wealthy bully. The rich get richer, the poor stay poor.

DO's deal with Tiger seems to be in conflict with the "Exclusivity" clause. Maybe that can be a way out for him.

That's not a contract - that's a robbery.

Shouldn't be hard to void if it goes to litigation - Dennis' perceived limited command of English and the totally one sided nature of the agreement most likely won't sit well with any reasonable civil judge.

Not only does Dennis pay half of his earnings to French but he also has to split any sort of expense French deems necessary. There isn't anything here that says French will put Dennis in X Number of tournaments or from X amount of dollars to pay entries.

This whole "team" and agency thing is idiotic in the first place.

Lol, It seems posting this has backfired.

Dennis needs better friends man, how on earth can someone sign something like this without even discussing it over a beer with a close friend? At which point said friend would have told him he was out of his ****ing mind for signing up for 10 years, 50% of all income with nothing in return.

Damn.

French gets 50% and has no real obligations.

Why on earth would Dennis sign this?

I agree. It is interesting to contrast this with the contract JAM was discussing that was offered to Keith in the IPT days. It sounded like that contract required the "Agent" or "Promoter" to pay the player a salary, and pay expenses, and in return the agent received a percentage of winnings.

Whether that is a good deal or a bad deal would depend on the player, the salary, etc., but at least you could see why a player might be interested, and how the relationship might benefit both parties.

Might be interesting when and if the IRS looks into the Calcutta money's side bets noted to be earnings etc....Figure this is going NO WHERE.

I'm my own man i don't have managers or backers i do everything myself..

he just had a option to stake me in money matches if i pleased.. was more a fun thing for me as he wanted to stake me... and he spoke about some team match he was trying to set up on espn.. so i had nothing to lose by agreeing to it..

like i said unless someone paying me a lot of money i will never sign another pool contract ever again lol.. I've had a agent before that received 12% it doesn't work in the pool world with the current state of the game... :grin-square:

This is the deal with Dennis. He did not honor this contract so how do I trust was I suppose to trust him in Beloit if he didn't follow through at DCC. Would you put money up behind someone knowing you will never see a dime.

So what exactly did you do for him at DCC to earn money? What value did you add? What arrangements did you make? Did you pay his expenses or entry fee? Did you book him a money match? Where is the value you added to his earning's to warrant a 50% fee?

The contract is so unfair and one-sided, it would most likely be ruled void by a court, especially considering the any other verbal promises made and Dennis' limited understanding of English. You have no duties, you just collect half of what the poor guy makes? Winnings, Calcuttas??? LOL! You should be entitled to a percentage of what YOU book for him.
