Should we as pool players be concerned about the recent linkings to cancer. I know it was ovarian cancer in women, but it always starts somewhere first. Other than mothers using it on there babies and themselves, I would think pool players would ,or at least usedto rank near the top in usage.

I'm not sure about all that, but it is a cancer to the table cloth.

I don't allow it on my home table and luckily few of the bars I shoot at have it.

Get a glove. It is cleaner, more consistent and always there when you need it.

Alcohol, gambling, smoke, drugs, arguments, cheating, flying balls, is what I thought made pool dangerous. I can't believe it's baby powder that is killing me.

Powder should be banned, nothing but a mess.Fortunately even though it's available in our room no one uses it. The use of gloves really eliminates the need for powder.

I never use powder anyway.Don't understand why people use it.In the long run,it ends up an oily mess.

Glove

I grew up with powder in pool rooms in the 50's and 60's. Back then nothing was bad for you!

I don't use it and carry a glove in case a shaft gets sticky. When I put it on a friend asked me if it helped me "moon walk".

She was using it on her VJJ...much different than our fingers, though they could end up in the area.

A properly sealed, properly maintained shaft, eliminates the need for a glove.

I, personally, do not need to use powder if I keep my hands clean.

However, after cleaning the cue stick, I give it 3 strokes over the tack cube in the pool room just t keep it smooth and low friction.

Keeping your hands clean and dry is the key.

Can't quite put my finger on it...

Please, no jokes! It's hard enough for a pool player to keep a girlfriend without them having to worry about cancer now. :)

the lady who allegedly died as a result of using the J&J products was using ones containing "talc" or "talcum powder" such as J&J's "Shower to Shower".

baby powder, like many of us use for pool is not a talc product but, rather, it's a cornstarch based powder.

these are generally safe to use unless you get it all over my table.:grin::eek:

best,
