Gold Crown IV

Hey Realking, what started the rumors/misconceptions that the GC3 has problems? I keep hearing from people(complete non-mechanics,btw) that the GC3 is inferior in some way. Could you clear this up? Thanks in advance.

Most of the misconception that the 3's are bad gold crowns came from the fact that a lot of them had cushions that turned rock hard....big deal, it sometimes happens. People that don't know shit or often in the belief that older is better also, if that were the case, Brunswick would have had no reason to try to improve on the GC1, but they sure have over the years. To knock any Gold Crown, is nothing but lack of knowledge of the tables.

Is there much difference between a GC4 and a new GC5 other than cosmetic? Are they structurally the same?

OK, if i buy a table that is already disassembled, what do I need to look for? I have absolutely zero pool table experience.

Get a 9' table period.........if you had the room, I'd get a 10" Brunswick........take your time but get the bigger table.

They corrected the frame design of the 4 when they built the 5's.

IIRC, for the "V" they extended the long timber frames the entire length and the end boards are bolted in between the long boards. On the "IV" the long boards were shorter and the end boards bolted on to the ends of the long timbers.

BTW, thanks for sharing that mod with us here on AZB. When Donnie built my table he came already prepared with the iron in hand to make the modification. Table has always played great!

Didn't he say "pro 8 foot"?

I believe that a pro 8 foot is darn close to a 4.5 X 9

A Pro 8 is 92" x 46" a 9' is 100" x 50",not much different.
If it is a GCV I would pay a premium for it over the older Gold Crowns because of the new smaller flush mount pocket castings. The only table I would be willing to give up for my "Diamondized" GCII for would be a GCV.

Oops, for some reason I thought it said it was a GCV, not a GCIV, seems a little high for a GCIV to me.

You don't need to look for anything. You hire somebody to show up at your house with it and leave the same day with it up and running.

I don't knw where that Charlie hustle is. I bet he knows who can hook you up with the best mechanic in San antonio.

I bet the best mechanic in San antonio has a gold crown for you.

OK cool. Love the avatar by the way. If we ever get a QB we might be dangerous. Bulls on Parade!

Awesome. I wont even mess with it myself.

You know, you pay a little more up front, but this is a long term investment. I had my table delivered and set up 5 yr ago- at least- and haven't had need to do anything to it but clean it and enjoy it...and curse it.

I'd pass on the Gandy too, but there's nothing wrong with a GC 3.
It depends on the GC3. Some of them don't have pins between the slates. Many of them need new cushions. All of them have the design problems of GCs.

The GC 4's and 5's don't have pinned slates either, and both of them have design flaws too:thumbup:
