Pool Table Pockets Should be 3.75 INCHES WIDE

They should change the pool table pockets to 3.75 inches wide max. It would be more challenging and exciting to watch players in matches than using 4.00+ inch pockets they use now.

You want harder, just play snooker with 3.5" pockets (86mm).
Two pool balls are 4.5" side by side......pockets 4.25" are tuff enuf.
How about using the pocket reducers on the smallest pockets you find?

Tighter and tighter pkts will kill the game even more. You cant run out so you dont want anyone to runout. You want a tougher game, put 21oz will cloth on all tables with 4 1/2 in pkts. Good luck gettin out.

Well, I'll accept your opinion as valid if you can easily run 7-8 racks on a 4.25 inch pocket. Otherwise, why would you want to play on equipment on which nobody can run out? Watching people struggle to pocket a ball is fun to you?

that idea would just lead to more safety play, (which is only exciting for very knowledgeable pool fans.)

you should clarify if you mean more exciting for hard core fans, or the new fans we are trying to bring to the sport ?

Well since pool balls are 2.25" in diameter why not just make the pockets 2.75" wide if you really want to be insane? I'm just shaking my head because I still can't beat the 9 ball ghost on my table with 5" pockets. :rotflmao1::rotflmao1: Best I've done is 4-7 so when I get down on myself for stinking I revert to playing the six ball ghost and feel like a pro! ;)

beating the 6 ball ghost is nothing to be ashamed about.....

YOU ARE VERY WRONG IN MY OPINION
if you prevent players from shooting you are taking away a big part of the game
and risk / reward management

Your not alone!

There are lots of run out players on this forum..., but I haven't seen them play?

Next table will have 4.25 pockets, it's my practice table. Competition I like 4.5" pockets. 5" pockets are like buckets.

I agree, that's exactly how my table is setup.

With that thinking the pockets should be 1/2 inch and so it would then be impossible to sink a ball and the game will evolve into billiards.

You'd be the only one paying to watch.....for a little while anyway:rolleyes:

It's not just the pocket width, but the depth of the shelf that creates the level of difficulty. I have a Diamond Pro-Am with the standard 4.5" pockets, but when I play on a Pro-Am with 4.25" pockets, everything changes. Especially shooting down the rails. The shelves are deep on a normal Pro-Am, but that hole seems to go a long way away when the mouth is reduced by .25".
