I love Classic cues but why do I hate titleist veneers and hoppe ring cues?

I love the classic style cues but can't figure out why I hate titleist veneers and hoppe ring cues.

In addition I hate the brown and or tan phenolic ring work the kind where you can see the mesh pattern in the material.

You're sick and in dire need of professional help. You say you love classic cues but you follow with a statement totally negating it. Quick, find professional counseling.

Everyone has different tastes. Personally I'm not a fan of greens or yellows. I'm also not a big fan of circles or dots on a cue. (although some very famous builders have used them a lot). Obviously how a cue hits is the most important thing - but it has to be visually pleasing to the person that owns it too. Art is a very subjective thing. I never did get the whole Picasso thing, but I love the Rockwell stuff - go figure. Hopefully you have a stick that appeals to you, if not, I hope you're able to find one.

Well, Kevin, you and I would get along just fine on a cue-buying expedition.
...anything you didn't like I'd buy it blind.

Then you would LOVE / HATE my restored 1940's Willie Hoppe Pro Model :)

I am curious, what classic features do you like?

Most classic cues don't actually have titlist veneers or hoppe rings anyway, though those are considered by most to be classic features.

It is because you ate too much meat Microwave reheated in plastic as a child.

You may have repressed an earlier incident when someone with a cue with Titlist veneers, Hoppe ring and phenolic rings beat you silly on the table....

Thanks for ruining my day! :)

Titlist points, steel or brass joint, plain black collars, and bumperless Hoppe butt makes my favorite cue.

Edit: I do not love the tan/brown phenolic, but I don't hate it either.

Perhaps you don't like the fact that Titlist veneers are a bit thick by today's standards.

On the Hoppe ring, perhaps you like only a large, full buttplate, regardless of material.

On the check marks, a lot of the classic cue makers had to settle for the original linen material, which was not as dark as today's, and did have that check pattern for joint collars.

Other than that, I'm at a loss to explain.

All the best,
WW

Kevin's idiosyncrasy reminds me of myself and cue designs.
I don't care for brown woods and prefer maple & ebony cues.
I've only seen 3 brown wood cues that I would love to have.
Over the past 55 yrs of pool playing, I have seen lots of cues.

While Kevin expresses a dislike for a very limited design type,
aside from my aversion for brown wood cues, ebony just isn't
my thing unless it's in the points and sleeve. Team that up with
a maple forearm & that pretty sums up my taste in cue designs.

Then it gets even worse.....only specific cue-makers interest me,
then there's my cue specs and so that's why I have such a hard
time finding cues. Know what? Perhaps that's a good thing since
I'd likely go broke adding cues if I wasn't so darn fussy 'bout cues.

p.s. And by the way, Kevin's TS cue design is absolutely amazing.

lol, thats literally my two favorite parts of cues and what send me into an obsession. we would not get along. lol. the natural phenolic is warm and inviting and unpretentious, the hoppe ring is classy and simple, like a beautiful woman with a diamond ring. whats next? you only eat canned food and hate fish? jeez:shocked:
youre gonna get rimmed on this. lol.

Hoppe Titlists are my favorite.

I don't need any bling.

If I were to buy a veneered blank to make a cue, I'd have it made with Titlist colored veneers.

Here's where you and I stand Kevin:

Sentence one is cue blasphemy. How could you say such a thing. That's like saying a '57 Chevy is ugly. Repent sinner!

Sentence two is correct, accurate and in fact, brilliant. That army brown mesh is ugly as hell and is not classic.

So you're batting .500 with me.

Amen?

I'm with you on the titleist veneers and especially hope rings, but I love phenolic
