BECUE arrived - review

Yes, believe it or not Alessandro sent it to me Friday and I received it yesterday. The service is incredible.

I have asked him for a lot of technical information and I am preparing my review. I will say in terms of performance, I am more confident putting extreme inside and power strokes on the cueball than with my own cue (Tiger Pro X). I can also aim and pocket better with it. It's very consistent. Marek is absolutely right about the white color. The low gloss white is an alignment aid that stays in your field of vision no matter where your eyes shift.

I don't have quite the fine cue ball control yet so I am giving my game a chance to fully adjust to the strong taper and feel before posting the results. I haven't decided if I'm going to switch to the BeCue yet. videos will come - may take a week but stay tuned...

Excellent.

Please keep us posted.
I for one am particularly interested since I know those Tiger shafts very well too.
Some of the best on the market by the way - just my opinion.

Initial impressions and review

Hi all:

I received my Be Cue a couple days ago, I also got the cue case.

They arrived extremely well packaged, and shipping from Italy to my door in New York was about 5 days.

First comments are on aesthetics, fit feel and design. I'll comment on how I feel it plays afterwards.

I got the basic naked, the carbon fiber butt looks like the dashboard of a sports car, crisp and clean. The white shaft is furell-less and just ends with the tip pad and tip. Overall a very clean and crisp look.

The shaft is painted and you can feel the little bumps of the shaft as it passes thru your bridge hand. Its like playing with a wood shaft that has a lot of chalk build up. I don't care for this much because I have always played with wood shafts and keep them extremely clean, waxed and burnished. I know that other players don't care for the shaft being so smooth since they prefer to feel the shaft as it passes thru their bridge. I am trying to get used to this textured feeling.

I am used to a leather wrap, but the carbon fiber butt has become somewhat comfortable. The tip was relatively shaped, but needed a tune-up to get to where it held chalk well.

The cue weighs about 19 ounces out of the box and the shaft is about the diameter of a Z shaft. Just under 12mm Not a pro-taper, but close.

The pin is a priority pin which is a cross between a unilock and a big pin (larger than a 3/8 X 10) But only a few threads so goes on rather quickly. It has a very solid feel and screws on rather tightly. I prefer a wood to wood joint with an ivory sleeve, no comparison; but I can get used to this. The feel and sound of the hit are superb. Crisp, no ding or ping. Just a nice contact with the cue. Striking the cue with anything but a very soft hit provides decent feedback.

As to the case-Excellent!!

I have only played with it a couple nights for about only 4 hours. It took several racks to adjust to the cue. I was initially overcompensating for anything more than a tip of side spin. That doesn't seem to be necessary. As I got more comfortable with the cue; I started to not even think about any English, other than draw; and just let the cue do the work. I was pleased with the results.

Still hard to really compare to my wood cues. I have been fortunate enough to own some of the well known builders and play with a 314 or a Z shaft (don't really care of the OB). Obviously a different feel; but at this point I believe that if I play with this BE Cue for a few more weeks, it may become my daily player.

I will have some of my friends also test it out, and I'll add additional comments.

I've never tried the REVO, so I can't compare. I'm asking around and if I find one to try I'll also add additional comments.

I think that these guys have achieved what they were looking for. If you can abandon the traditional cue; my first was an Abe Rich my dad got me for high school graduation in 1974; and have since had Palmers, Rich Black, TS, Tasc, Jerry R, Frey, Arnot, etc.; I believe you may be very pleasantly surprised at how this cue handles.

While it may be the Indian and not the arrow. Sometimes a better arrow can make a better Indian.

Regards all

And Thanks to Alessandro. I really like your cue!

Dave

Nice review Dave. How would you compare the squirt to Predator Z or 314? Did you need to adjust your aim point on English shots?

Where can I purchase this cue, it sounds & looks awesome.

Hello Tate:

We communicated quite a while ago re a Palmer model 20 which I had gotten from our dear friend Kevin Brewer; he is fondly missed.

I have become so used to the 314 that yes, I did have to adjust y point of aim to pocket shots which required a decent cut. After I missed a couple cut shots, I was at first puzzled, then made a minimal adjustment and found the balls hitting center pocket. While this was likely mostly subconscious, there is less squirt-actually almost negligible with the becue.

You will find him a pleasure to deal with and extremely responsive.

Marek, thanks for your thread. I am always looking for better equipment and it sounds like BeCue is getting there.

I'm very curious about their development of a long pro taper and whether or not that will work. I have played with a large variety of LD shaft/cues and some of them have conical tapers and some have long straight tapers (pro tapers). Not sure if something should be called "pro taper".

The following may fly in the face of some of you and while I listen to what the physics experts say, I also listen to what the top players say.

It has been my observation and opinion that neither party is right about their hypothesis 100% of the time, but I actually test what both parties suggest and then decide what is right for ME and my game.

Thank you Dave, yes I remember you. Kevin and I became close friends. He was as much of a character in real life as he was on the internet and I miss him every single day.

Take care,

Chris

I am really happy that BECUE is succesful and players like its properties:) and as for long taper development...all i can say is that i have been shown the drawing of the finalized version of their new taper on the paper two days back and i like it  i promised not to show it to anyone though so you have to wait till the new shaft is manufactured :)

I'm becoming adjusted to this thicker taper and I'm beginning to like it. I hope now they will continue to offer the original shaft as well as the pro taper shafts.

Thats what i understood from my chat with BECUE guys - they will have two versions of the shaft to choose from;)

I'd like to echo this comment for I have also gotten used to the taper after some more hours invested with it. I still would like a pro taper but the cue is fantastic the way it is.

I also believe if you have a shorter bridge, play more upright, or play on seven foot tables (where rail bridge lengths tend to be shorter), the 5.1 standard taper is just fine.

What is this taper? I missed it if it's mentioned.

Is it similar to the Predator Vantage?

I think it is a great looking cue .. it really looks all business to me.

Under eight hundred bucks does not sound bad. Six hundred and I am a buyer for sure.

Of course I am a sucker for new gadgets and gizmos and I feel like I want one of these space age looking cues ... thanks for the review.

Chris ... looking forward (waiting) for your full review.

I'm taking my Becue on the road. If you would like to give it a try I will be at the M8 Tournament at Canterbury Park (Shakopee, Minnesota) March 10, 11 and 12 then in Schaumburg IL the 13th and 14th. To set an appointment to test drive the Hottest New Cue out there - TEXT or Email me at USA@BecueOfficial.com Alessandro Becue Bressan

I hit some balls with a Becue today and I think it plays better than the REVO.

Moves the cue ball well and hits solid with no vibrations.

The white shaft looks way better than the black on the REVO.
