Pool Nicknames

One nickname I always liked was "Pool Monster". Who knows without looking it up? Extra credit for anyone who knows the name of the person that hung that moniker on him.

Can any one come up with the nickname given to Milwaukee's Craig Powers?

Steve Booth has a list of a few hundred pool player nicknames on OnePocket.org: http://www.onepocket.org/Nicknames.htm.

It looks like that list may not be up to date. Maybe we can get him to update it if some nicknames are given in this thread that are not on Steve's list.
Quite the list.

He lists Mike Danner as Mad Dog. I knew him as Gabby. Have some great memories of Mike. He was the first I ever saw get up off of the game/match winning shot and take his cue and wave it under the table while remarking, "Just chasing the dog out." Maybe that is where the Mad Dog came from?

A lot of the WPBA names were contrived.....copy-catting the original process....
...so I tend to just call them by their given names.

In the 80s, in our area, we had a lot of gin and backgammon action at our pool hall.
...one of our guys was passed the cube at backgammon and beavered it...that means
you re-double but retain possession of the cube....he got backgammoned for some
pretty fair money...you pay triple for a backgammon.

...he's been called Beaver Wong ever since.....
...now THAT is an earned name.
HaHa, yes it was always fun watching somebody pass Beaver the cube, too bad we didn't have a guy named Water Buffalo.......then we would have some serious action!!!!!

I have to ask you, pt, what would be a good nickname for a guy named Nick?

Jeff Livingston

Frank "Bionic" Jonik
When this guy came thru Tulsa his moniker was "Frank James". Dude looked the Hulk. Watched David Matlock give him the 8ball on a GoldCrown. David beat him in a tight match. Musta been about 1989-90.

I always thought the Butera's had clever nick names.

The Machine Gun
and
Son of a Gun

Toupee Jay is a good one. I can't seem to remember who's nickname that was though....
