I'm having a hard time finding someone who's not on Steve's list. He's got it pretty well covered.

Quite the list.Steve Booth has a list of a few hundred pool player nicknames on OnePocket.org: http://www.onepocket.org/Nicknames.htm.
It looks like that list may not be up to date. Maybe we can get him to update it if some nicknames are given in this thread that are not on Steve's list.
HaHa, yes it was always fun watching somebody pass Beaver the cube, too bad we didn't have a guy named Water Buffalo.......then we would have some serious action!!!!!A lot of the WPBA names were contrived.....copy-catting the original process....
...so I tend to just call them by their given names.
In the 80s, in our area, we had a lot of gin and backgammon action at our pool hall.
...one of our guys was passed the cube at backgammon and beavered it...that means
you re-double but retain possession of the cube....he got backgammoned for some
pretty fair money...you pay triple for a backgammon.
...he's been called Beaver Wong ever since.....
...now THAT is an earned name.
Come to think of it PT, I think Screwy Louie definitely "earned" his nickname as well.....R>I>P Louie...love ya BuddyA lot of the WPBA names were contrived.....copy-catting the original process....

When this guy came thru Tulsa his moniker was "Frank James". Dude looked the Hulk. Watched David Matlock give him the 8ball on a GoldCrown. David beat him in a tight match. Musta been about 1989-90.Frank "Bionic" Jonik
