1880's Brunswick Billiard table - Brilliant Novelty - Salvage or sell?

If it were me, and I wanted another project, I'd cut it up and try to make it into a coffee table or some other kind of household furniture. That might sell quickly, or look nice in your own house.

For the sake of argument, do these tables in restored condition actually sell through? Or do they sit in someone's showroom for 10 years until a buyer comes along?

Well, chew on this thought for a minute, then ask yourself that same question again......its a billiards table, and 8ft at that.

Well, just so you have something to think about....replacing hardware if you have it in hand is one thing, but buying hardware from Ken Hash to replace MISSING hardware....leaves hin trying to guess what that hardware may be. If you think hardware for an 1880 Brunswick is just sitting on someones shelf somewhere, then i guess you should have no problem finding it right? I mean, just send Ken a picture of the hardware you're missing and he'll go in his back room and find it....LOL i know Ken, we've talked on my occasions. Restoring a muscle car is not the same thing as restoring a 1903 Buick you found in someones barn....in a dissasembled pile of parts....LOL
Jesus Christ . It was just an example and second to my first suggestion of talking to local shops. I've put tables like this together many times by piecing hardware together. It happens all the time.

Look at the risk of going down the perpetual Glenn road of cynicism and negativity would it at all help if I just asked you nicely to stop posting in my thread.

At this point we get it. Its not your table, your not the mechanic so you'll do everything you can to tear down the idea of successfully putting it together any other way than the way you want to do it and how cost prohibitive it will be because...again, its not your thread and not your table so you're not going to talk it up.

Just seen you do this a thousand times, can we please not go down this road?

The europeans amd asians don't have the americam table size hang ups, they haven't forgotten how to play the games like we have

8ft is a beginners table there where you must prove how good you are on it to be able to play on bigger tables in thier clubs and leagues
In europe

7 of the top 10 ranking 3 cushion players are european
Theres only 2 "americans" ranked 23 and 31
And they are not american born
South american where they also know how to play

Its a shame
Americans developed and perfected a scoring process , its such a effective method for scoring its still used today
The europeans even gave it a nick name in honor of us who came up with it

The serie americana they call it
Rail nurse to us

Bishop, I am sorry to have offered my opinion that this could be a restorable project if someone were to venture. I will also emphasize, INTERIOR DECORATOR SALES. It is the best choice for antiques many times.

I will also submit, this thread, though not intended, turned into an example of why AZ has deteriorated into a negative site. Many have left or no longer read close. This thread should have offered you many options. It should have produced some interesting information.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Of course this table can be played on and there no reason for you to continue to fabricate outright lies. Really in poor taste for you to even say this but absolutely expected of you.

Lets get this out of the way right now. Because this is not Glenn's table and Glenn will not be assembling the table its unplayable and because Glenn isn't selling this table he believes its a worthless pile of junk and only a sucker would buy it.

So do you have anything else to add Glenn? Why not just get it all out now. We both knew the moment you opened this thread it was personal with you.

Phil, Bishop and i have history, and not good history....he knows what he's done in the past and it has everything to do with having a big nose and sticking it where it didn't belong....over and over and over again!

Phil you weren't wrong or out of line. Anything can be restored. I got a quote this afternoon for a full blown restoration from a close friend who retired from restorative woodworking some time back. My dad was possibly interested in bringing it back so I reached out. The intricacy of the inlay/veneer work is what drives the price up. It won't be easy matching veneers all this time later. I was quoted 10,800-11,800(depending on a few factors) with new slate and that's by someone who was only willing to take on the project because it would have been for my dad.

So I'm sure prices for a full on restoration by a reputable place of business specializing in these things could run even higher than that.

Unless someone is just in love with it and has money to burn I don't see it as a viable option.

Well you and I don't have good history either. The problem is some people who don't know you or your history of tearing people down here can't differentiate between an honest opinion by a professional table mechanic and an infantile ego maniac who carries a grudge.

To bad your posts don't come with a disclaimer.

You should have stayed in the NPR forums where you belong;)

I haven't really been actively shopping this table after a certain someone took this as a opportunity to settle a personal vendetta but I really do need to find this table a home.

I was open to delivery but I'm swamped with work and I coach youth football in my free time so if anyone wants to jump on this they need to come to me. Slate is at my friends house in San Antonio and the table is here in Corpus Christi. I'm happy to go pick up the slate if its not on your way in or out Corpus.

I have a buyer, however they want to convert this into a coffee table. Would prefer to sell this to someone who wants to keep it as a table. I'll give it a week or so otherwise its off to the furniture slaughter house it goes.

I'm open to any reasonable offers.

So I sat on this for awhile and ended up redoing my fireplace and turned it into a mantle.

I wish we would have gotten together on this, I don't need it , but it's a shame it ended up like that, no matter how nice it looks.
I think I was having a lot of health problems when you decided to move it and asked for an offer.
I missed most of the discussion between you and RKC, and while he is correct about it being difficult for most people , it was doable if you know someone who has a garage full of these old table pieces and parts like I do.
In a way, I'm glad, because I have other things I want to spend my time on more.
It looks great, nice job.

nice work, not everything can be brought back to life, and better to repurpose...

add some pool memorabilia to the mantle, just to keep the theme going:thumbup:
