Yep, or his runout against Zuglan.

I think Earl is definitely the favorite in this all-around competition, given the fact that he is still competing and about ten or so years younger than Sigel.

It is interesting to think about who would be the favorite in each discipline if each player were at the peak of their career, though.

Here's my favorite in each discipline if each player were in their prime:

8-Ball: toss-up

9-Ball: slight edge to Earl, especially if he hits his top gear

10-Ball: slight edge to Earl, with a superior break

14.1: clear edge to Mike

Banks: toss-up

1-Pocket: edge to Mike

Overall: edge to Mike

Maybe those who know their abilities at all games better can chime in.

I will be watching this BECAUSE it’s mic’d...I’ve told people for years that if you listen
to Mike Sigel whine, you’ll learn everything you need to know about playing pool.
....and Earl has always drawn big crowds...his conversation was one of the reasons.

If nobody ODs, it might become one of Pat’s best selling vids.....

I'm not sure of Sigel's current abilities. It seems like your assessments may have been accurate when both were playing on a regular basis, but Sigel hasn't played top level competition on a consistent basis for over 25 years.

On a side note, what has he been doing to support himself during that time financially speaking. It's not like pro pool players have a retirement plan typically!
 
If Sigel can't string a run of at least 80 on Earl, he may very well lose. Earl used to practice straight pool every day, but I think it's the only format Mike has a chance of winning.
I can see it now....Mike at the table and he's going to stop and tell people "I faced this same exact shot back in 86 against Mizerak and you know what I did? I thought about playing safe....then I walked around the table twice.....then I chalked three times and got down on the shot. It didn't feel right, so I got up. Then, I figured I should go for it. It's one of the toughest shots of my career, but due to my champion demeanor, I fired the ball in before the 5 minute shot clock ran out."

Mike - (after getting bad position) "Man, what am I doing!" (pointing his cue at the table) "This is where I needed to be!" (he walks around for a minute or two surveying the shot, all the time shaking his head and making grimacing faces) "I hate this shot!" (looks at his designated Yes man) "Should I go for it?" (Yes man shakes his head, uncertain what to say) "I don't have a choice." (he stands over the shot looking back and forth from the cue ball to the object ball) "Oh well!" (he gets down on the ball finally, takes four or five practice strokes and fires) SWISH! (Mike acts like he's fainting, staggers and then wipes his brow and gives a half smile) "I still hate that shot!"

And now we hear from Earl;

Earl - (Running out and making it look easy) "I'm the greatest who ever lived! And I couldn't make a dime playing this game!" (shoots another ball and gets perfect position) "I should have been a golfer. I would be a multi millionaire now!" (gets out of line and has to bank the next ball) "Did you see that, this table is faster downhill that way!" (shoots the bank and the ball lips out) "These pockets stink! That ball should have gone in. I hit it perfect!" (Stares at the offending pocket for ten seconds as Mike grins while waiting for him to sit down. Earl slams his cue against the rail as he sits down) (Earl continues to grumble incoherently as Mike runs out the remaining balls).

Wished he had played gerda or Allison or Karen they’d have tortured him. His brains would have been all over the place like that Chappell’s sketch lol. Mind blown away

This could be entertaining. Strickland is going to drill him, but the banter should be fun as that is going to be one of the draws of this match. Knowing it's going to be like that going into the match makes it fun. A player shooting off at the mouth at random in major tournaments is pretty shitty.

Sigel actually played in the Seminole pro tour a decade ago, played in the Maryland state championships and the world 14.1. sure, it was 10 years ago but I'd imagine it would not bother him much. The guy practices and gives out lessons all the time and not to mention, like earl, keeps himself in great shape for a man his age.

imo, the rotation games are a toss up in this case in which it will come down to the break. the other games it will be interesting to see.
 
People who take Sigel at face value are grossly misreading him. Mike is far more calculating than people give him credit for and he rarely does anything at the table without it being completely on

purpose (although he'd never want you to know that). He likes people to be fociused on "A" behavior so when he's executing the "B" behavior, no one notices. Yeah, Mike "talks" a lot while playing, but not

all of it is compulsive "self-talk". (IMHO) Mike has superior "Gamemanship" skills compared to Earl...and I've shot with both of them.

If Mike can get Earl p!$$ed off and feed Earl's anger, game over for Earl, Sigel will dominate. On Monday, February 26th, remember you heard it here :wink::wink:

This is hilarious and completely spot on. Like someone else said I could even read it in their voices in my head. One thing I would add is that when Earl is getting ready to shoot the bank (cross side presumably) we would get an oration on how there shouldn't be side pockets.
