Johan Ruijsink Returning as MC coach

You don't have to look any further than the Olympics going on right now to see this very thing in action. Athletes frequently move to a new country and become naturalized citizens so they can compete under that countries flag. I know you were just having fun, but the reality is that it's already happening! :thumbup2:

If this is the case...the US should import some Taiwanese pool wiz kids. "Give me your tired, your poor, etc...."

Taiwan must be the best pool playing nation per capita in the world?

Your comment that the lag is trivial seems at odds with your next statement that it is important at times.

Then you make a similar statement about momentum. Stating it is not important except certain circumstances.

I
IMO any area of the game that causes a loss is a key area, be it lags or momentum on that we can probably agree.

I have to agree, again, the lag is VERY important, when In a race to an odd number, and ALTERNATE BREAK! Percentage wise, in the alternate break format, the advantage goes to the winner of the lag.

Some people have problems with the simple maths.

Can you maybe recommend some books/articles that were helpful to you regarding that, or describe your approach more in depth if you could. I would be very grateful, since i'm struggling with that part of the game (but recently started working hard on it).

Well I will nudge you in the right direction:
https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/understanding-the-stress-response
Deep breathing technique, meditation and hightening the stress load in practice to get used to the stress..those are key elements for me. But it is really vital to understand how stress works to be able to handle it and that article I posted link to is quite good ;)

It's all just window dressing really.

Let's be honest -- these players are given peanuts by Matchroom but they are now being asked to jump through hoops throughout the year to impress a coach?

If Matchroom really wanted to see improvement on the US side they would throw a bit more cash into the equation by adding some money to all the Mosconi Cup points events. It wouldn't even have to be a lot of cash either. Add some cash to 6 events in return for all the free press they get during the March towards Mosconi.

Matchroom is taking the easy way out in hoping that a single person can do what only a competitive US tour can achieve.

Nobody in the USA watches anyway, if they spent a single penny advertising in the US it is wasted $$$.

If you can't make money going to tournaments(these are pro players who make their money playing tournaments and gambling) maybe you shouldn't be on the MC team anyway.
You can't honestly believe Matchroom should put $$$ into events that aren't theirs do you??? Insanity! They already pay these perpetual losers of the MC $10,000 each. You think paying them more is warranted?

The funny thing is that any added $ would just go to the Euros and Pinoys anyway, outside of Shane lol.

I wish they would make it winner take all, cause there is NO WAY the Euros would do any kind of saver with the US, then they would get nothing or improve.

... To add to that, we need work on playing like a team. As an example, do you remember when Justin Bergman and Skyler Woodward played doubles matches at the Mosconi? They were so in tune with each other. And I loved it when they handed Appleton and Shaw an ass whoooin In 2016.

The BergWood duo is 2-0 in doubles matches. They also teamed up in 2015 to beat Feijen & Van den Berg.

I think it's more of how they play together, not just their record. They seem in tune with each other. The announcer mentioned something they have a lot of doubles experience with each other. It shows in how they interact and play shape. They know each other's game. It is really beautiful to see them play together. THATS what we need more of on the American side.

No points this year for the American team. So it must be the 5 that kiss Johan's ass the most...get a spot on the cup team. Johnnyt

Not to stir pots but...

Y'all realize this gives him the option to not pick Van Boening, right?

how important is the coach anyway

what is there to do other than show up on time and shoot pool

put your hand over your heart, sing the star spangled banner
sing kum bi ya and congratulate the winners

its not all that complicated

This thread is going to get a bunch of replies and a lot of complaints on here, but here's the truth it make absolutely no difference whatsoever who the captain is. Whatever 5 guys show up there are going to be big under dogs no matter what, and win or lose captaining is going to have very little to do with it.

Momentum is not critical. Except in double hill matches, you need only defend your break as often as the opponent, something Team USA fails to do whether they win or lose the lag. You need to watch the last Mosconi again if you think it was decided, in any way, by the break. Team USA had more than enough chances off the break to be successful but failed to execute effectively in virtually every key area of the game.

Momentum is critical in any sport or game.

Especially if the Euro captain is given the same rules and picks a team of all star Euro players without having to watch the Euro points list. Last year's team didn't even have Neils or Darren. Chris Melling is playing superb as of late. So many players in that talent pool, their super team would be scary.

I like watching Chris Mailing play. I like the exaggerated pause at the back stroke. Looks so smooth. Shane has a nice pause also but not as pronounced.

Going to Russia or training with Johan isn’t going to make USA win the Mosconi Cup. Europe doesn’t get together and travel for 3 months together as a team and they play fine. Basement Dweller has said the smartest thing in this whole this thread. Matchroom could add some money to a few 9ft events where the best players will actually show up and play in instead of having to travel to Oregon then South Carolina next week with maybe a $3,000 1st Place event.

What do you offer Matchroom? Nothing. The fact they are even still involved with pool is insanity.
If I owned Matchroom, USA would be out and the Pinoys would be in.

You are a great player, but the US offers nothing to the pool world other than Shane overall.

I hope you make the team, but complaining about Matchroom and them needing to add $$$ is not the way to go. Win the thing and collect 20k.

I hope you all understand a "pro players" job is to play pool for a living, if you don't travel and play, you are not a "pro", you must make your $$ other ways, and you shouldn't expect a tournament promoter to subsidize your income.

Sometimes the truth needs to be said.

I just hope he doesn’t let them wear those masks again. They were probably his idea of making them look like a unified faceless front. I get it. But it was cheesy and embarrassing.
