$4000 Billiard University (BU) Exam I 100 Challenge

I watched a few videos on the exam - thanks for the links! I decided to take it a second time and was able to make a 73. There are still a few "free" points in there as I miscued on the draw drill (6), scratched on the follow drill missing bonus points (8) and also missed a few easy points elsewhere (stun 7, potting 7). And the last drills I was able to only muster 12 (wagon) and 13 (target). I think with a little more effort, I can shore up some deficiencies and rack up a decent/competitive score!
I'm glad you are giving it a shot. You definitely have a chance to be competitive and maybe win some cash, especially if you improve your score some more.

Please consider posting videos as official entries to the Challenge. You can post as many as you want as you continue to improve your score.

Please also consider posting scores and videos (for Exam I and Exam II) on the AZB BU sticky thread, where many other AZB users have shared their results.

I look forward to seeing how high you can push your scores.

Good luck,
Dave

FYI - I did email the video link to you, let me know if you don't get it.

No. The over-under I'd set on the number of pros trying this "of their own accord" is 1. They would rather stay in bed then set this up, even for 2500. If you made it 20k, I might put the over under at 4 pros to meet all of your qualifications for entry.

Now, if you set it up like you did with Shane, set up all the shots for him, the camera, the upload, and tell him: "just shoot the shots I tell you to", you might get a few more takers.

The proof will be in the pudding, and we will see the number of pros who try this when all is said and done.

$2,500 is like a years salary for them.

I've seen pros and top regional players sweat over similar or smaller amounts in local and regional tournaments where they are spending an entire day or weekend at the venue (sometimes with a hotel stay and many other expenses).

I think the $2,500 should be plenty enough incentive, especially since there is no entry fee, no travel expense, and no need to spend an entire weekend at a pool hall or tournament venue (with lots of dead time between matches). And the consolation prizes ($1,000 and $500) aren't bad either.

... but $20K would definitely be better.

Dave

I agree with this ^^
All you have to do is go to AZBILLIARDS and its on the first page.

Top player has made 35.5k this year. Heck lets round that to 36K X 4 = $144K Year Salary, assuming she continues to win which in this sport is NEVER the case!

Now lets flip that and take the worst of the top 20 with 9K x 4 = 36k Yearly Salary. That is about what a Teacher which is prob the worst paid profession given what they do for a living.

How many pool players fall below the TOP 20 spot so 2.5k for them is a lifetime winning!

Cleary, I loved your doctored bank curve video. How about a perfect 100 on this exam challenge? :grin-square:

Cleary (and anyone he might work with) is automatically disqualified from any current or future video-based challenges. :(

I can think of two ways Cleary can cheat the video (and I'm sure he can probably think of others), and both would required a fair amount of work to be within the rules and pass carefully scrutiny. The cheats would also require a player who can execute all of the shots (even if just individually). One day, I need to talk to Cleary to brainstorm additional rules we can add to future challenges to prevent possible smart-but-dishonest video-editing abuses. Cleary, if you are out there listening, I am all ears.

If there is no way to detect or prevent possible fraud videos in the future, we certainly won't be offering higher dollar amounts in any future challenges.

Dave

Samm told me about Jin. I hope he enjoys the challenge of the Exams, even if he is still a little too small to reach everything. I told Samm I will print a BU diploma for him after he improves some, but don’t tell him ... I think Samm wants it to be a surprise.

You have a very cute kid. He has very impressive pool skills for his age. It will be interesting to see how his game develops over time.

Catch you later,
Dave

Thanks Dave.... he is working really hard, he loves all challenges, he believes him tackling anything hard is a champion mindset.

And the wagon wheel ate my lunch for some reason. I was surprised to only score a 60. I was confident that I would break 80 on the first go round - but no dice. One thing is for sure, if you don't take it seriously, or just plain shoot lazy, the drills will make you pay.

I think most people will find a pretty significant improvement across 3 or 4 tests simply due to familiarity of the shots. And a little practice will go a long way.

Isn't that the truth..... here is my son taking on the wagon wheel at 4m 30s into the video:

Jin has been practicing some of the drills and such. Just has a hard time reaching many of the shots lol. With a little more time/growth, he will be there though.

What do you think about encouraging Jin to enter the Exam I Challenge? I know he doesn't have much of a chance to place in the top three, but it would be fun for everybody to see him tackling the whole exam on video. If you and Jin think this is a good idea, mention it to Samm so she can help.

Catch you later,
Dave

Speaking generalizations bout (pro's) imagine dat. Actually some professional players would rather practice 14.1. if we're staying in bed - we're dreaming bout playing the winner of bu exam on a tough table for big money.

Staying in bed because they're lazy, not because they're bad at pool. Just a generalization...

Lazy to set up this specific test. Not lazy in general. That was the meaning of my post.

Danny, you are an absolute lock to win the 2k. Let’s see if you do it and prove me wrong.

Actually, with a perfect score of 100, top prize is $2.5k, not $2k. If we’re gonna dream, let’s dream big. :grin-square:

The Billiard University (BU) just announced an Exam challenge with money prizes.
Here it is: $4000 Billiard University (BU) Exam I 100 Challenge.

You just need to post a video of yourself taking BU Exam I (Fundamentals Exam). There is no cost to enter. We are paying out $4000 to the top three scores (including a $500 bonus available for a perfect score of 100).

I hope some AZB'ers win some of the money. I just posted a video with a score of 82 to give you guys something to beat. My goal is to reach 90 before the end of the contest, and I really hope somebody (maybe a pro) can post a perfect score of 100. Hopefully, the $2500 top prize is high enough to attract some top players, given that no travel or other expenses are required.

The BU Exams are excellent practice and I always feel my game elevate a little when I dedicate focused practice time to the Exams.

Good luck and have fun,
Dave
Anybody working on the Exam this weekend?

I might take a stab at the 90 if I can find the time and courage.

Good luck,
Dave
