Diamond Professional vs Gold Crown IV

Also if you are going through sell your GC4, you really need good pics, and you need to state you personally bought it brand new, and it’s a home only, one owner table. Maybe even show the original sales receipt if you still have it. That should get you a premium price, compared to most GC’s that have been in commercial environments their whole lives. The listing you made a few days ago won’t get you a good price, IMO;)

2 back to back excellent post, really good advice.

Yes, good advice. I had thought about all of this should I actually pull the trigger on a new Diamond and eventually try and sell the GCIV.

I was just sort of testing the waters with my initial post to see if there would be any initial interest. Some, but not much, really.

You know, m-man...

You are gonna have to make the final choice. I know, I am supergeniousity.

But I sometimes think of doing the swap too. And I have mentioned I hav gc4 as well.

If you are buying it as a means to play better pool, don't. The 4 is a fine table, more than any hack like we will ever test. And you already have it...better than stock.

If you buy it coz you want a change and want to have the best and F it...the money isn't the issue...fugggit. Go for it.

Either way, you gonna play the same game at end of the day. Know what I say? That's it for today.

I bought my GCIV brand new back in Christmas of 2002. It came with 5" corner pockets and 5.25" side pockets. Finally realized that was too big after shooting on Nick Varner's Gold Crown V table so I had my mechanic from Indy tighten them up.

If you don't mind answering, how much did you pay for the table new? Did you get it from a dealer? Was installation extra? I'm asking because we always see the retail price of recent GC's to be 10k to 12k, and I never knew what the actual street price was.

For a reference on the used side, I bought my GC4 from a private seller in Atlanta in 2012 for $3000, including local delivery and setup, new simonis, and a "home model" light and wall cue rack. The installation was only of the table, not the light or cue rack. The table was on its second owner, and the first owner bought it new for home use from a dealer. Every GC in 25 years of being a pool bum I've seen in a pool room was all scratched to hell. The castings all look like garbage, and the formica wears out. My table, since it was always a home table, doesn't have any of those problems.

$6,000 out of my pocket, brand new, at Christmas time 2002. Delivered in early January 2003. Bought it from Orner Billiards in Indianapolis. The price included everything. Tax, setup, delivery, etc.

fuggatabutit! Get a GCV and really live! :thumbup2:

I have a very nice Dymondwood, converted blue label Diamond Pro in my home. I got it because so many players came through here and wanted a Diamond to practice on. I sold a GCIV to make room for this table six years ago. It's a great table with 4.25" corner pockets and plays tough as nails. The pros love it and I hate it!

That said, the best table I've probably ever owned was a GCV. Sold that baby for 5K - big mistake! :frown:

The issue is that I don't want to go a month or more without a table. It would be perfect if Jack Z could find me a buyer for the GCIV and just take mine when he delivers the new Diamond Professional. But that's almost too much to ask.

Just about everywhere you go anymore its Diamond tables. The place in Evansville has Diamond tables, both 7 foot and 9 foot. Almost all pro tournaments use Diamonds anymore. Seems the way to go.

The stock market has been doing pretty well and I am thinking a new Diamond Pro table would be a good Christmas gift for myself. $$$ isn't really an issue, its the timing of selling the GCIV relative to the Diamond delivery that is the hangup here.

I like the Pro’s looks much better than the Pro-Am. Since it’s a home table, any reason you are not considering a Paragon?

Its not too much to ask him. Why not just offer it to him for 1k. Then he can sell it to a customer for 2k or whatever he charges. Then he makes money, and you have it out the house with zero hassle. Win-win.

$1,000?????

I'm not in the habit of throwing away loot.

And Jack and I have already talked about this.

Ha ha, 1k should be small potatoes if your Schedule D was good;) But really, there is a great value in "saving time and having zero headaches" for moving a huge ass table out of your house the same day the new one comes in, without having to deal with tire kickers and flakers. Don't be a fool to save 1k. IMO of course:)

It is true...

IMHO it is silly to swap from a well setup GC to any other table unless you are a pro and you make money off playing on Diamond tables and need one for practice. Waste of time and money.

I'm inclined to agree.

Here's a poss great idea for the op: Since you have a top guy like Jack Zimmerman available to you; why not have him Diamondize your GC - extend subrails, new cushions etc? Then you'll have the GC4 look with the Diamond playing characteristics.

Much less $$$ out of your pocket, a sweet GC that you've owned and know the complete history of from new, win/win.

Unless you just want a change for the sake of change, that's what I'd be doing.

In fact, I did. My GC1 was Cobracized by RKC to be a Diamond in GC clothing - a decision that made me a very happy camper, indeed.

best,

I think the rails have already been extended...which means new cushions.

I'd lean more toward keeping the gc, but then I look at my bike.

I like the best and can afford it (in this category:o). Why not?

I'd probably do it for $1,500. But not $1,000. That's throwing $$$ away.
