Any word from Dennis Searing....

Dennis makes the best playing pool cues on the planet.... Barr none..... Unfortunately I feel he has stolen my property and is making no effort to rectify the situation. I’ve known Dennis a long time, I’ve been to his shop a couple times. I’ve played rounds of golf with the man. No matter what “issues” he has , it is no reason not to keep some type of communication up on a ridiculously long repair problem.... I mean we are pushing 12 fuc*%#* years here. He may be hoping for my death??? Lol

Any reason you don't just go get your stolen property?

LOL.

I could make a cue if you give me 15 years to get it to you.

It would probably be on par with a jackpot, too. The firm who made those has been around way longer than 15 years

I agree that Dennis has a pretty comical output volume. What he does put out is perfect in every way, though

I don't need a Searing...I got a Murray Tucker.

Get on his list.

It may take you longer to get a cue from him than from Searing.

I don’t know Dennis Searing nor have I ever seen one of his cues in person. However from what I’ve read on here about him I have no desire to own one of his cues either. He’s not the only cuemaker that I won’t own one of their cues either.

This is the best post I've read in this thread.

Lets stay civil fellas

How many of you have ordered a cue from Searing, when ?
,did he keep in touch or did you ever get your cue?

I was told mine was #1 on his list about 12 years ago

He called to ask me a favor about 6 years ago.
I read him my list of grievances,I feltlike he lied to me.

He apologized profusely, talked for over an hour, promised to get me a new cue in a very few months.

I said fine,we will see
He took about 15 minutes to tell me how to get used to it when I got it

Tips like shoot about 30 easy shots about a foot from the hole before I tried a longer shot

Not to spin my ball, a series of such stuff so I would not expect too much
,how to build my
confidence as I got familiar. In other wordshe acted like he was on the job

He asked what i wanted, I said based on my experience with himI would take a plain Willie Hoppe style

He asked if I would prefer a box cue,he knew I liked box cues

I said yeah I would but I would rather get a basic cue than nothing

He said "oh you are really going to get itthis time

You see I was not some poor schmuck who got put on a list,I was promised I was next

Naturally I never heard from him,but I never thought I would

I hear stories like this all the time from well known collectors

Do you even know anyone who plays one of these cues?

Have you ever played one?
did you play better with it?

What was better?

I have heard great cue makers who hold him in awe,
to me I just don't see it myself

First off... this is not over a new cue. This is not about the wait list.....This is about a repair on one of his cues.... I’ve been on Dennis’ list since before people outside of Florida knew who he was and I’ve never had the privilege of designing my own. In 99’ to 2000 me and a friend had about 9 of his cues and took them to the SBE so people could see his work and the rest is history. For that deed we were never expecting to be put on a “ short” list. I just want my property back , repaired, and to wash my hands of the whole situation

For as much of a recluse that he seems to be about his cue making, I had no trouble contacting him about his layered tips (which are excellent, BTW). Last year, I emailed him once about availability and again a month later to place an order. Both times, I got a response from him the next day.

Kinda feel like I should print and frame the emails.

the lack of contact /customer service is appalling..and inexcuseable
quality of construction is excellent
at least with southwest
you may wait 15 years before your number comes up but from what i have read the cue comes close to promised time frame and laurie is available

dennis was very prompt and helpful in replying to my emails re: his tips
he even asked for my number so he could call me
we chatted for a good half an hour
and I found him to be quite a friendly, knowledgeable person
I really enjoyed the first of his tips I tried
and told him so
he replied in kind
the second one not so much..it turned rock hard after just a few days
I emailed him with the bummer news
and never heard from him again

of course this doesn't necessarily mean anything
a missed reply happens rather easily these days
but this whole thread does remind me about dealing with artists in general
I've not ever commissioned a cue to be made
but a sketch, or a painting
anyway, I've never been completely stiffed (knock on wood)
but I've had to really chase people down to get the goods
cuemaking is certainly an art
and cuemakers are certainly artists

I do detest flakiness
let alone liars, cheats and thieves
but what is cereal without milk
reputation used to go a long way
sometimes still does, I guess
with the internet, a lifetime's worth of hard-won respect
can be eviscerated in a nanosecond
but moles quickly pop up
where the old ones died
they only look the part tho
no funk, no soul
so the old moles stand out again
if only their ghosts
and we deal with them
as best we can
or not.
