Alternative to tighter pockets

No.
What tangible benefit to either party does that result in?

One day SVB might encounter someone that can break better than him.

My theory is if enough people talk about the break, the standard for how people break will go up.

Any thoughts on breaking from different positions SJM made the point first
women break from diamond 5 men break from diamond 6.

That one difference, could be enough to take SVBs break advantage away.

SVB gets to practice teaching

and developing pool players can find out if SVB is worth taking lessons from

Im surprised you wanted the answer to that question. I thought it was clear from the start of discussion.

Its been about how SVB has a power break, but in the women's side few are known for a break like him. That is why it became a man vs woman issue.

4 things changed pool forever:
Diamond tables, specifically proliferation of "deep shelf" pockets and fast cushions
Simonis cloth or equivalent (being universal at all tournaments)
Template racks
Alternate break

Together these things contributed to the demise of the "explosive, powerhouse rhytm guy." Rodney Morris, Earl Strickland, Bustamante, those kinds of players. These are characterized by having big breaks, fast playing style, extreme rack running ability (when in rhytm) and strong strokes. All of their advantages have been taken away by the above changes. Sure, their type could still be a top shelf pro, but they now risk losing to people that they might have beaten 11-2 under the old conditions. Those guys were fun to watch and their skill set is not easily tought or aquired, These are more or less natural abilities.

Newer pool matches are just boring to watch compared to older ones, even if there are less misses. I haven't seen a 3 rail draw shot in 20 years of watching professional competition I have to watch old Accu-Stats for that. That shot is no longer needed and is too low a percentage on newer tables, while it could be- and often was a match winner in slower conditions.

Yup, I played on those tables too. IMHO, today's conditions are what allow women to compete. You very seldom need to power stroke a ball on today's tables.
Idk why pool took the direction it’s currently in. In order to make baseball harder, did MLB bring the fences all the way in and make the ball smaller?

Did the NBA lower the hoops and reduce the diameter of the rims? Did the NFL shrink the size of the field and make the endzones more narrow?

What pool did was make a field of play where it’s possible that a child has been able to defeat a living Hall of Famer in competitive matchplay. What other serious sport has ever done that to itself?

We’ve had at least 25 years to digest this. We need to ask ourselves, did pool make the right decision?

Nothing you post is clear. You speak in vagaries and incomplete sentences in an attempt to convey some half-thought through idea.

You still have not addressed the question about what tangible benefit svb would derive from changing his current trajectory to one that includes teaching and I already know the answer.

None. In fact, it would likely result in negative value.

Things like repurposing practice time to teaching time, elimination of some measure of personal time, the need to adhere to another's schedule, unpredictable administrative costs...there is a whole lot of shit that comes with the change you suggest and much is a negative influence on a pro player...whose position depends on...playing too level pool..

Most of the older players avoid going on the road because it wears on the body.

SVB leaving the pool community to pursue a career as an ice fisher sounds crazy.

SVB running a pool hall, maybe more realistic.

Mostly it is due to Brunswick backing out of Billiards. This left a vacuum that was filled by a manufacturer of bank pool novelty tables. Later decisions have all been terrible as well, but this is what got it started in the wrong direction.

Perhaps you need to look into how to raise awareness about ice fishing.

Please do.

There is a college regulation and high school regulation sizes for height of hoop in basketball.

Ice Hockey is better in terms of rule development, how people check on the ice has made huge leaps in bounds.

Football has all types of regulations regarding how to properly tackle and hit someone.

Yes the rules in other sports have been updated to make it safer.

As for pool you raise some interesting points.

Football kept the one foot touching the ground rule like in billiards.

The direction I am going is how much should you handicap a male player until its about even for a female of similar skill.
Make the audience all female, all 9s and 10s, and naked head to toe.

The girls won't even notice,
The guys, well.........

How many women have won the US Open in 9ball?

saying they exist but dont win tournaments is every amateurs dream.

Maybe they're too busy making money in China, far more than they can make by coming here. The top women players are sports celebrities over there with endorsements, sponsors, lucrative exhibitions and tournaments with big prize money. IMHO if the top dozen Chinese women players came over here and played in all of our major events it would become embarrassing for most of the men who are currently competing in them, just like it did for Donny when he played Siming. I'd love to do an event with 32 of the top men competing against 32 of the top women. Once again my opinion only, but if the best women players competed on a regular basis against the men they would eventually win some tournaments. Their toughest competition would come from the other Chinese men, the Filipinos and the European players.

Women often think the break is the difference so I like Stu's suggestion of letting them move up a diamond, sounds like the lady's tee in golf too. A little bit more involved option might be to have a power break stick with a spring and trigger device and everyone, men and women have to use it.

Another thought might be taking away the side pockets for men. Just because of space considerations and the cost of real estate to rent or purchase I think the seven foot tables are taking over. In response to that I think that making tables without side pockets or changing to snooker style pockets might keep the difficulty level up.

Making a rule that the turn always or never changes hands after the break might be a thought. The breaker having to play safe after the break is a thought also. I think most of the break rules being enacted now are BS. Break over twenty-five miles an hour and no balls happen to stay in the kitchen or the appropriate number not stay then you lose a turn is ridiculous. Make two or three balls and none remain in the kitchen, lose your turn, RIDICULOUS! I was watching a tournament from china. I don't remember the rules they were using but there was a ridiculous number of power breaks that didn't meet the break rule.

Existing tables could be modified to have a set of "eyes" or lights under a cushion that would accurately time the speed of a break. Green light it is legal, red light it isn't. We used electric eyes shooting steel plates at some events, barrel racers use them and they are used in other game play, it would seem simple to design something for pool. Might not even need to modify a table, something to place before a break and remove afterwards could even just lay on the rail. KISS would probably be best!

I can make technology to do this. Thanks for my next billiards tech project.

The speed gun for baseball is ready out of the box.

I will post the video when I am ready.

So Donny looked a little out of stroke (or uncomfortable) and Siming (780+ Fargo) played excellent.
[...]
Shaun beat Siming for some cash convincingly (if my memory is correct).

When we devalue an observation that goes against what we already think and pump up an observation that falls in line with what we already think, that is known as confirmation bias.
