Went to a remodeled pool hall today, 13.50 per hour?

Ouch, if I priced my pool time at $13.50 and hour I would have spent nearly $100 last night. I'd only have to play 5 hours, once a week for 370 days to pay for my room. Not including beer, food, etc. They will make a killing if they have dedicate patrons.

The nearest pool hall to me still only charges 5$ an hour and they have 19 diamonds...I don't go often....its a bit far away from me but when I do go I would gladly pay 2 or 3 times the price they charge to play. The equipment is well kept, the atmosphere is good and beer is cold. I go out of my way to buy a lot of drinks and eat there too when I go.

You can't recognize grammar errors unless people show you them.

I think Coocoo was a former Grammarian. The emphasis is on former.

Well I just shared an idea, maybe as you seen to be expert in english, and grammer. You might voulenteer at a place kids go after school, to help they get up to speed in your area of expertise. Helping kids struggling with school work.

I had this idea that when the economy does worse, rents get cheaper and pool halls do better; when the economy's better, the opposite.

So on that theory, we should be in for a decent period after covid. But it might take a while to materialize.

If not for the counterfeit money, that is exactly what would happen.

Get used to it, boys. You can't unscramble an egg.

I read a book about macroeconomics last year. My conclusion: Economics is hard and often counterintuitive! Now I don't put much certainty in predictions.

Where????

You can't make anyone happy. People complain about the rates, stop going then complain the room closed.

At 13.50/hr i don't see them being open for long. I'd never pay that if it was the single-player rate. Per table would be a different story.

Macro? Fuggit about it. That's a trick pony.

In a school a teacher would assign students to share what they like and know.

one student shared liking pool then demonstrated how top pros break cue sticks to prove their point.

another student would give me their top 10 shark moves.

you make a clear point people are in need of education

So I found out that a pool hall near me, that I went to visit 1 year ago, was reopened with a new owner. The one and only time I was there a year ago, the tables were so dirty and nasty, that I only lasted 30 minutes, before I left in disgust.

so I was pretty happy to learn that a new owner had taken over, and had cleaned the place up, and had recovered the 9 diamond 7 foot tables. I thought wow, this could be my new home. The web page said 6.50 for a solo player per hour. Wow, perfect.

so I walked in today, ready to practice for a hour or two, and the nice girl at the front desk it’s 13.50 a hour to use a diamond table???

I said sweetie, your web page says 6.50 for a solo player? She said not anymore, as the diamonds have been recovered. I said I have two places that only charge 8 dollars per hour for diamonds?

I really wanted to give them my hard earned money and to help them on there journey, become a regular maybe.

but no way am I paying that price. Then I called there house pro for lesson prices, (not saying his name)and he says 100 a hour?

felt like saying dude, your not mark wilson or a famous pro, 100 a hour? So I struck out twice. 😩😩😩😩😩
If they don't cater to pool players, they stand a chance of making it in today's market.

Actually most teacher, spent their live in School learning to pass a test, to move in to next level of learning more theory.

In the real world you learn life’s true lessons.

They’ll eventually figure it out to give the single players a better deal. It’s very narrow minded or just plain ignorant to not realize that in addition to the pool time, players that come in there are going to spend $ on food and beverage that often will amount to more $ than their pool table bill. But if the pool table rental prices are too steep, they won’t come in there at all.

I played a few hours where I usually play in league, so I had no idea about the table rates. I went up to the counter and they said, "$23.50, Please." I looked a little surprised and they continued, "Or you can get a monthly membership for $20." Members play free until 7PM. I'm guessing their very active bar subsidizes the pool. 9' Gold Crowns with Simonis. :giggle:

They have since raised the monthly to $25.

A well run pool hall in a safe neighborhood is quickly becoming a financially unsustainable business model. Bar/restaraunts with pool tables are still barely feasible if the food and drink is good enough to bring people in. But just barely.

Support the ones that have been in operation a long time so they don't go away as these are the only ones that can survive usually due to real estate that's paid off and an owner who loves pool more than money.

Home tables and private co-op rooms are the future.
