In order for pool to become popular, you have to attract the interest of people who don’t currently have any interest in pool. The current crop of people who are interested in pool are not enough to support what pool needs to grow.

Young kids today are interested in the “people aspect” of things and they are drawn toward reality TV. They are not going to sit still and watch 24 monks, in tuxedos, sitting quiet as a church mice waiting for their turn at the table for a three day tournament.

I think the bonus ball idea could have made a better run for its money if it would have been 8-ball and they made the teams a mixture of pros and celebrities to get the show off the ground and running. They could have modified it as it progressed.

I have always said that an event with a team of Manny Pacquiao and Efren Reyes vs Earl Strickland and Joe Rogan would draw a ton of streamers and could even interest somebody into televising it.

If anyone ever steals that idea, I want a free plane ticket, hotel room, and front row seat to the event.

Some people here made the point of Earl generating TV views for MR and I asked myself,if this is really a point that can be made.

OK, Drama can create attention, no doubt about that, actually this is the reason why talkshows and reality TV work.

But, at least in my point of view, sports honors the big achievements not the breakdowns.
Yes, everybody loves the bad boys, but only if they deliver.
Yes, we love the rivalry, but only if they are carried out on the field.

Bringing Earl back for MC might be a big thing in our small community of pool enthusiasts, but for the rest of the world, or even for sports interested people...it is like...watching the Egyption ski national championship. (no disrespect for Egyption winter athletes...but you know what I mean)

So IF this is whole "Earl is at the MC" topic, is only a big PR bubble, we, as a community, should not discuss this year's Cup, but the downfall of our sport in general.

PS:
I still believe Earl shouldn't be reduced to his breakdowns and I still believe, that, as sad it might sound, that the US could have picked worse players for their team.

Are the same people who ran the U S Open running Mosconi? If so I'd love to see them pull what they did to Shane on Earl. Shane just quietly took it in stride and let them screw him. Earl would go ballistic.

Dude, put down the crack pipe. Nobody, including me, mentioned race. And talking about LeBron is not political or racial. He's another coward that takes the money and turns a blind eye to the most evil regime in history. I was using him as an example that he can still play in the NBA, makes 100s of millions of dollars, for doing shit that is unfathomable in defending and taking orders from said regime. But Earl should not be involved with pool because he gets to emotional during pool matches and mouths off sometimes.

I will bring up Pete Rose or Lenny Dysktra next time if he makes you feel better if I throw a couple of white guys under the bus too. I have no problem with that, race doesn't matter, just their behavior, which is over the top. And certainly 100 times worse then Earl. Vick dog fighting conviction was related to his owning the property and his family member was into dog fighting! Not Vick! The family member was his house guest and because the house guest did it on his property he got convicted...
