John Schmidt Go Fund Me?

I think it is great he has decided to get out there and try to get his record back!!
Hell yeah!

Something to sweat, how can that be bad?

I’m all for it, glad to see JS out there grinding on it. And anyone else who goes for any record for that matter. Would be cool to see a few top players out do each other and push the high run to nose bleed numbers.

It’s great for pool imo.

What would be really fun is if Shaw and John played straight pool on two tables side by side, and they played with Tetris battle rules:

They'd each start with 15 balls on the table and would open break the rack. Then we'd have a ref on each table randomly adding new balls onto their tables one at a time. In the beginning it would go slow, maybe one new ball every 8 seconds. Then after a minute it would go to ever 6 seconds. Then every 4 seconds. Meanwhile each time they cleared 15 balls the other ref would drop a full rack of 15 balls onto the opponents table. They'd keep shooting until someone missed due either to a mistake or due to running out of shots from the table getting over populated.

I'd pay to watch that!

Would have loved to if John did a new York tour but unfortunately, some crazy stuff happened in the world that prevented it from happening. Did you?
So COVID is the reason you didn't see the 626 run? Just when I thought we've ran out of things to blame on COVID.

Just to clarify... I'm not saying I don't think it's real. I 100 percent believe he ran the 626 and broke the record, no bullshit. I think the recording/streaming/footage handling/whatever was handled super poorly. Pandemic or not, the delay John had (and still has) with releasing the footage of it pretty much killed the hype. This is a record that maybe 25 out of 100 pool players actually care about (I think I'm being generous on that) and of those 25, maybe 10 would actually watch the video.... Then of those 10, maybe 3 would be able to stay awake for it.

You can put me in the group of the 7 that would make the attempt at watching it but probably not be able to stay awake. #workingman #dadlife.

It's definitely a feat, no question and it's cool that he is trying to do it again... but I can't justify throwing money at something that I'm probably not going to be able to watch much of, especially when it's live... and probably never see again if the record is broken... or have to pay again if it is ever released.

Now the correct business model here for a GoFundMe would have been some type of incentive system. Like every 100 dollar donation gets a copy of the 626 run on (insert your favorite media preference here). That I would contribute to.

Yes. I would love to see that.

Why?

Instead, how about they just play a real 14.1 match to 500 or 1,000?

Way back when I bought John's 247 disk mostly to support his efforts. To be blunt, watching grass grow is more exciting. I can't remember ever watching it in one sitting, it took two or three sittings to watch and I am very interested in patterns.

I would have to be extremely well paid to watch john shoot six hundred balls. The same is true for anyone else. One issue is there is no excitement when a tough shot comes up, we already know how the story ends.

Watching two people play would be more fun, maybe with an extra rule or two to insure we see both players. A six hundred point match with runs capped at 150 balls or ten full racks might be fun. I will finish by saying watching anyone's record attempt when the results are known would have the same issues as watching john. It is mind numbing to watch somebody essentially practicing on a table no matter who it is. It might hold interest for thirty minutes or so at best.

It's simple...pool players don't make enough money! 90% of them are very very poor and just losing money. 10% Are not rich either just have slight money from tournaments and when they're out of their prime they'll go back to being poor & may even be homeless (some of them already were). It's the worst sport in terms of money-making ever. Even throwing darts will give you a better living. And btw it's not a coincidence. It's all for a reason!!

So you identified problems ,got answers?

Only answer I can think is make better career choices, like sports that pay better.

I agree it's boring but a 100 years from now pool players might not think the same.
Wouldn't be great to be able to watch Greenleaf or Mosconi run racks in their prime?

not really.... by then there will be 1000 ball runs and we wont even care about this..... same with CF shafts something else will come along and nobody will even care ..... its the same ol thing no matter who is making the balls ...

Any chance he will go away if we give him this?

I suspect if John had taken this approach during his first run, i..e live streaming/request for some small financial assistance the response would have been overwhelmingly positive

I too dream of becoming an APA5. Do I need a drinking system or just use DAMB (drink a million beers)? I'll need a rule book, a green card and a truck full of beer to get me started.
Having been an APA 5 for the last 10 years or so, I can tell you that might help, but isn't necessary ;)

New here!? Hahaha.....Before this is over there will be many many many posts here saying it is bad in some way or another.

Well, what else can I blame it on considering he was going to do an easy coast tour of the video but could not due to the damn pandemic. It's not as of he was selling the tape.

And yeah, he admitted the other day in an interview that he went about it wrong. But it is what it is so what can you do?
