2023 World Pool Championship

Poland is putting out some champion-caliber players in recent times.

Last event was free on Matchroom-dot-live for Germans, but Americans had to use Da-Zone (DAZN). I'm thinking Da-Zone will be the vehicle to watch for American railbirds interested in sweating the live matches—again!

From reading the current issue of Billiards Digest about Emily Frazer written by Mike Panozzo, it brought a new perspective to my thoughts about her role at Matchroom and her background pre-Matchroom: Billiards Digest "Playing for Keeps" It's interesting to learn how Emily landed the job at Matchroom. Though she expresses a great deal of passion for pool today in print, her expertise seems to be geared towards marketing, in my opinion, which is good. These rule and color changes, though, are just plain odd. Snooker doesn't do that. They have had the same green cloth and the same color balls, and they're doing just fine with large payouts.

All these channels around the world for pool fans to watch pool is a bummer. I've read the pros and cons ad nauseum about why. If these channels don't advertise these Matchroom events ahead of time, what good are they as far as attracting mainstream viewers?

As long as Barry Hearn is involved, I have hope. He's the tsar of pool as far as I'm concerned.

One American pro in this poster. Well, at least he's at the top.:LOL::giggle:(y)

I hope Russian rockets don't start pouring down on Poland.
This war in Ukraine still has the chance of escalating.
I worked with lots of union construction guys from Poland in Chicago over the years. Some of the toughest hard workers I ever knew. Somehow a lot of me says Poland would like nothing more than kicking some Russian ass right about now. In all likelihood they have been beefing up their military for just such an event. Finland is probably doing the same... Eventually something has to give there...

Back to pool!

Germany is also building up their military.
It almost feels like Europe 1939.

Too damn close to Ukraine
According to the State Department travel advisories, "Normal Precautions" in Poland. In their view it is more dangerous to travel in Belgium, France, and the UK. At some point you have to just go ahead with your life if there are no bullets flying directly overhead. I think Covid showed us that.

i can see why, but don't want to go NPR. anyway, countries such as poland, czech r, hungary are very safe.

I wonder why Jay is so butt hurt?
Thank you for your intelligent response to my questions about the complete lack of information for a major event only six weeks away. Did you even notice that the very next day announcements were made? I will continue to extol the good in our sport and criticize where things are lacking or misdirected like the pink four ball and purple five ball. Carry on

No Jay you complained about a press release announcing where. Then you complained about streaming . Then you complained about the location.

You seem butt hurt to me.

Looks like we got our answer. No surprise here. It's being held in Kielce, Poland, convenient for all the European players, not so much for players from Asia and the America's. $325,000 purse, with 60K to the winner. Shown here on DAZN if you care or dare to take a chance on their shaky stream.
From what I recall, the last few major events held on US soil had way more Europeans than Americans. The Americans aren't even making the effort to show up.

The US govt have known issues when reporting travel advisories.

If a plane over Poland was hijacked and descending would their government authorize a takedown?

There was a related incident in NYC and DC.

iirc, emily frazer has said the WC will move around. so jay's "no surprise here" is right in a sense. last year it was in the UK.

also, looking at the entire pool scene, there were two WC:s in USA and its territories this year, 8-ball and 10-ball. and yes, there too the big bulk of players were of other nationalities. personally i can't wait for a WC to be held in the philippines again.

my biggest gripe with this announcement is that they should have upped the prize money. let's hope predator will offer 70k for first in the W10bC and force their hand.
