Gus Szamboti 70's

I really hope this cue finds a good home, I tried to take a swing but once I asked if it had any lift in the pieces together and apart I got ghosted. If I had an antique that I was interested in selling because it sat around for 30 years unused, I'd probably just list it on Ebay with FULL disclosure and let the market speak. There's people here including myself that would participate in the listing and we can get beyond all of the questions about value and what its worth and you might be surprised. The content of this thread is absolutely incredible and though some of us including myself are enjoying this thoroughly it's time to move on imo

I hope this cue sells too. I am sick and tired of this thread where a guy that doesnt want to sell it unless he gets more than its worth.

Geez - Give it a rest. How many years is this thread going to last?

I am interested in your opinion. What do you think this cue is worth? Thanks in advance :)

Everyone knows you won't take a nickel less than $18000. If three people tell you it's worth $18000 then you will wait for $20000. Maybe just put it back in the closet and let your heirs deal with it. IMO.
I asked Ken and I will ask you the same question. What do you think the cue is worth? Thanks

Maybe we are approaching this the wrong way. You are not willing to sell the cue at market price if that market price is not to your liking so the question becomes what is your minimum price?

@Logdog: It's an honest question. For instance, if you asked me what I'd sell my cue for I come up with a figure that is much higher than it's true value. If someone offered me $30,000 for my cue today I would not take it. Ask me again in 10 years and I might jump on that, might not. In other words, I don't really want to sell.

You had some guy years ago, I think in this thread, say it was worth $18,000 so it seems that is your minimum. Is that true? Mike Sigel looked at my cue and said it was worth $30,000. I'm pretty confident this is not correct and I do not now put a basement value of $30,000 on my cue.

I was bored, so I decided to do the math for fun. Because of inflation $13,500 in 2017 would be equivalent in purchasing power to $16,600 today. This guy waited 5 years to sell a cue for less money in real terms than he could have gotten in 2017. Here's the inflation calculator if you're curious. The longer you wait, the less your money is worth. GLWS.

You shouldn’t have posted this inflation calculator comparison. He posted a minimum price of $16,000 now he will feel he shorted himself and now will want $16,600 for it.

So who here would like to pay 16k for a Gus from a guy who doesn't even know if the cue rolls straight, honest question? 🧐
I messaged you and said it rolls perfectly when screwed together. It had never occurred to me to roll them separately and I told you I would do it the next time I am in my safe deposit box and let you know

I think we should give logdog some slack. He did put a number on what he wants for the cue so what more can you ask?

First that isn't what you said but I'm not gonna quote a private message here. Given the information provided, it would seem the cue has been stored for 20 years and that you only recently pulled it out to take pictures. You did not inspect the cue for any warpage or damage and are suggesting that the cue is straight as best as you can recall (which was 20 years ago). To be reasonable I give you the benefit of the doubt that the cue has been stored properly, however this is a detail that you should clarify before ever attempting to sell a cue. It's been nearly a month since you were going to check and you still haven't done it.
If you go through and read this entire thread you will realize that there's alot of people who have shown interest, alot of people who genuinely tried to help you sell your cue, and several people who have either passed or no longer participate on this site. The fact that in all this time you still haven't fully disclosed the details of the cue is mind boggling. Someone mentioned a potential crack, I noticed what appeared to be a rather significant dent in one of the points, these are things that should've been addressed and clarified if you really wanted to sell the cue and definitely affect the market value. If the approach had been transparent from the beginning, this cue would've been sold several times over and instead here we are still trying to figure out the details.

This is exactly what I said in our message...

"....I would have answered that it rolls straight together. I have never even thought to roll each piece separately but I can do that the next time I am at my safe deposit box and let you know. Thanks for your interest"

You sent that message after you read my post where I said you ghosted me, not even responding to my initial inquiry. In our conversation you said "Best of my knowledge everything rolls straight. I can make a trip to the bank and take it out and roll the butt separately. I am not sure I have ever done that before"

"Best of my knowledge" vs. "it rolls perfectly" are two completely different statements.

The fact that you still haven't gone to the bank to clarify concerns regarding the condition of the cue for a private transaction and would rather focus on responses to this thread tells everything.

You are correct that in the 3 weeks since we talked I have not made it to the bank to get into my safe deposit and take the cue to a poolroom so I can roll the pieces separately but as soon as I am able I will do that. As you know, I am older and life gets in the way at times. I thank you again for your interest.

I will say that not being a cue collector or an expert in this area, I never knew that you needed to check the shaft and the butt separately to see if they roll straight. I always thought you screwed the cue together and then rolled it and if it rolled straight that was that so I have learned something new and for that I am grateful
