2023 World Cup of Pool (WCOP) 27June-2July, Spain (Winner $60K per team)

I don't think that Round 1 of the WCOP taught us much. A few teams looked solid, but nobody blew me away. Perhaps the Round of 16 will clarify things. Perhaps the team showing the most consistency is Poland, but I need to see more.

Chinese Taipei will be a formality to the Netherlands.

Of course not, you being a US player hater. They played pretty much perfect aside from sky's two dry breaks.

LOL.

Yes, that's one of the two matches I missed. I did, however, call Team USA the best team on paper in post #64 in this thread.

Sorry I was being sarcastic, I think Chinese Taipei have a 70% chance of winning. Maybe more. Allthough I hope that Niels and Marc bring their A game!

bookies sometimes mess up the outrights but match odds are usually correct.. i think all matches today will go as planned. vietnam should be favorites over GB maybe
So far been spot on GB Vietnam hill hill now
Yikes , we will get to hear "The Shouter" Sanderson if GB snaps off this match :ROFLMAO:

Better late than never. I missed the first four matches today, but look forward to watching the two matches that remain.

Surprisingly subdued entrance by Alex this match. Good to see Filler/Germany having fun upstaging Alex/Canada with this cheeky entrance song

Been no upsets so far in early rounds (last 32/last16) race to 7 with only two race to 7 matches remaining which is rare (Spain loss to Philippines was not a major upset)
Only 4 hill hill matches out of 22 so far (18%) High average score of 7-3 is not surprising given this is winner breaks.
It is small sample size but the new break format, tighter pockets does appear to favor the better team/favorite more.

Speaking of- whatever happened to Ga Young Kim? Did she retire completely from competitive pool?
She and SVB will both be eligible in 2024 for BCA of Hall of Fame induction. They are two of the greatest that ever played the game.

Pretty sure you can still watch them... and even better, you can fast forward through the lull
