I was reading the thread "how I got my nickname"
And thought I would post some nicknames from years ago in a New Jersey pool room.
Mental Mike-he was a little off upstairs.
Guitar Bobby-he played the guitar.
Neptune Joe Frady-he was from Neptune N.J.
Choo choo Larry-a train engineer.
One eyed Mike-self explanatory.
Chicken neck-self explanatory.
Bugs Bunny-protruding front teeth
Mouse-kind of looked like a mouse
Some were not very kind but it was a pool room.
 
Schnoz- you know why; big

Retard Rick- he's not full blown but he's autistic. Nice guy and plays good for his condition.

Molester- no need to explain, something happened with him

The Champ is Here- nickname to a guy who won a recent big tourney.

WC- name for a pro/semi-pro at the place.

Lights out- this is my buddy

Jerky- some Black guy that goes around calling Asian people sushi. So we call him Jerky for Jamaican jerk chicken.

Fag Fred- older gentleman who is a good player but he's very feminine for an old timer.

Night Train- for another black gentleman.

I apologize if this is offensive but this is what goes on in my pool room. As for me? They use to call me 'Machine'. I told them I want to be called Alpha Precision, for my precision shooting.
 
I picked by how they approached the table:
Slow Bro
Deadshot
Champ
Drink Buddy
Shooting Buddy
Safety Buddy

Being the husband to the champ is nice to. She can hear without having to see my face.

Men dont know how to work the dispatch mic. Traffic needs management not acceleration into a black hole.
 
One of my favorite really strange nicknames was Larry Legend. To most people in the 1980s and 1990s, it meant Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics --- but people liked to call Larry Lisciotti "Larry Legend" back then, a clear reference to Larry Bird.

Some nicknames, though strange, were more obvious and a little easier to remember. For example, back in the 1980s, there was a player at the Golden Q in Queens, NY, known as Jake the Pimp, a clear reference to his profession. Another guy was known as "Richie sneakers" because he was never seen in anything but sneakers.

Legendary road hustler Don Edwards was known as both "Waterdog" and "Buffalo Bill" but I can't really say why.

Among professionals, the nickname that stands out the most for me is Joe "the meatman" Balsis. Joe and his family were in the meat business for many years.

In my neck of the woods we got The Freezer....pretty popular name if you know anything about 1-pocket.......We also have Big Daddy...If you are any kind of in the pool scene around here you will know who that is....Big Daddy cut a few road players trips short back in the day.

Who is Big Daddy? I live in the phoenix area and have no clue.

He used to hang at the now closed Alexanders waiting for action......Now he is usually at Bull Shooters....Recently inducted into the AZ Hall of Fame.

Both him and Freezer know my nick......LOL

Perhaps it has faded with the new generation...I was pretty much on a pool hiatus for about 7 years....Just recently started putting some effort into the game again....So many new faces I don't recognize..
 
Back at the old Sequoia Billiards in Redwood City Ca. there was George 'The Dry Dog' Wilbur and Paul 'Bone Rack' Tessieur and Dee 'The Fish'
Dimitri, Jim 'Sewage Rack' Stewart the list went on in that place.

This goes back to the sixties, it was owned by Jimmy and Dorothy Wise at the time. This was just a thumbnail of all the names of the characters
that frequented that place. There were some very good players that came through that place as I remember.

I played there lived there for many years
Jim Stanford they just don't make them like that anymore
 
Out in Cali we had Al "The Pumber" Winchenbaugh, "Tall Paul", "Poker Paul", "Rush Out Red", "Little Al", "Filipino Gene" and of course "Toupee Jay". Visitors included "Crying Sam", "Arizona Slim" Sean Walsh, "Black Bart" Bob Ogburn, "Hippy Jimmy" Reid, "Portland Don" Watson, "Popcorn" John Miller, "Alibi Al" and "Philly Joe" Veasy.
