Are any shots only possible shooting up on the CB?

There are some instances on a 9' pool table when you are on the diagonal and the cue stick is completely within the pool table, that you can shoot upwards on the CB. This would happen even more often on a 10' carom table playing 3 cushion. Are there any shots that require an upward stroke, or that work much better with an upward stroke? We may have had this conversation about 15 years ago, but I don't recall if there was any consensus. Thoughts?

Byrne wrote once or twice about this. Because swerve is in the opposite to the normal direction -- to the left for right side spin -- you can make a few shots that you will probably never see in a game.

I think Dr. Dave recently showed a shot where you shoot up through the netting of a leather pocket. In that situation you can get rather remarkable swerve in the "wrong" direction. You can do the same if the cue ball is up on the rail on a cube of chalk for demo/betting purposes.

The upward motion you could get with a straight stroke is pretty minimal - probably need to use the ol’ vertical swoop.

It's possible to get a little negative elevation if you drag your butt on the cloth. It's enough to see a difference.. maybe in comparison to normal elevation.

Id imagine there are some close-kiss banks one might escape the kiss by shooting 'up'?
I think there might be such banks but I bet there are almost always more standard ways to get out of the kiss. (speed, draw, side, elevation)

Anyone who practiced those so they would be ready for the few remaining cases in a game would be quite remarkable.

If the existing mechanical bridge was allowed to level lower and then angle it up then the shot could be studied more.

This limit in the initial game structure limits any discussion on this thread.

Shooting up exists in tricks, theory and discussion. Outside of that there is little observed shooting up.

An upward pivot stroke using a shortened cue, how much would it retail for?

I can make a demo vid in 10 minutes, do you want one?

This is will be for a sanctioned BARPA video.

I was tryin to give the people what they want, dammit!

It doesn't matter if I know the correct answer to this one, if my opponent played this shot on me I would be laughing too hard to even try to call a foul. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
I'm going downstairs right now to drill holes behind the pockets in my Gold Crown. 🙂🙂
That's one of those that coffee up so rarely you you have to admire the inventiveness.

A jump cue could work.

The rear is too long to allow a proper angle of inclination.

The shorter the rear the more upward action you can achieve.

That is where curved cues come in handy.

Would an extremely warped cue still be legally allowed in competition play? Imagine an extreme case of banana curve.

I hope not. Three cues is enough to carry around.

The old ferrules would slide off with the screw on tip and thats why I am so quick to suggest it.

Due to it short length its challenging to generate power.

What are you ideas for improving the design?
