US Open (9 ball) 2024, August 19-24, Atlantic City

Idk. Just to reiterate this is from the local promoter, so each qualifier will probably have a different format, pay structure, etc.

Here is the fb group if you’d like to contact directly. The TD’s name is Frank. He does a nice job and I play in a lot of his events. The room has GC’s and they all play perfect.

This yr is most likely the last ''open'' year.
With 128 players needed to fill the non seeded 1/2 of the Open, seems inevitable qualifiers will be in cue in 2024.

Here is the info for a qualifier for the UK Open. The room is Spots & Stripes in London. 8 qualified from 64:

UK OPEN QUALIFIER

Double Elim to Last 16, Last 8 Qualify ( Subject to 64 Entries)
Races to 8, (Losers Bracket to 6), Winner Breaks

Well, here's something new. I just got this from Matchroom.

WTF? Talk about confusing. Just how does this work? I know what Salotto is but who gets to do this? Just those on some points list? The MR/WNT world list i assume?

what are the rules and format?

There is no US open 9 ball tournament anymore.....
There's a matchroom 9 ball open held in the US that's titled US open but really its just an abomination.
Nonsense. Matchroom has taken the US Open event to a higher level than ever before while paying proper respect to its traditions, and even more importantly, to its founders.

The winner's trophy is now called the Barry Behrman trophy and Barry's children, Shannon and Brady, are included in the award ceremonies after every Matchroom US Open.

Matchroom has proceeded in a manner that would have delighted Barry Behrman, showing respect for the event he conceived and, while doing so, honoring both his memory and his family.

It looks like anyone anywhere can enter. I assume you get some number of points for each match win and the top four points winners go to the US Open. They get their entry and $1000 expense money.

Yep, I'm sure that's exactly how it's going to work. No way will anyone at MR have thought of that angle. Brilliant! Better get to booking those matches.

I'm sure that's been a consideration in their planning. Even if that does happen, the net result is that four more players go to Atlantic City and fill spots that would otherwise be byes. Maybe the Salotto website has more info.

The Matchroom qualifying stuff might be like this points-based competition they already have:

But, yeah, no official info there yet. I think the Salotto qualification project started a little late for this year's Open.

...yeah, kind of like the inBev buy out of Anheuser-Bush, just not the same reasoned seasoned.
The work-about fargo already having the player tuned profile(robustness) and ranking support (pre and post attested game publishing), the whole point of having a fargo number does have an aside hustle amusement to the matchroom show too relevancy.

In separate qualifier news.... One room posted some details to Facebook. In their case, Matchroom is taking a little over $1000 per qualified player, or adding about a 35% surcharge over the normal entry fee of $750. The room is paying out the rest of the entries as prizes, and is adding some money.

My opinion: The rooms are doing the work of gathering players and running the qualifiers. It is wrong to make the room pay extra for that. I can see why one room said, "No qualifier here because the arrangements were not mutually acceptable."

I think Matchroom will end up with fewer than 60 qualified players for the US Open. If you have entered a qualifier, I think you will be getting an invite so they can fill the 256-player bracket. I expect those invites to go by quickest to respond.

I know which one you are talking about and i heard this from another qualifier as well. I think they almost want to do the right thing, but overall the communication leaves a little to be desired.

Seems okay, if the top finishers qualify and even get their entry paid. If that entry fee comes from the prize fund of that qualifier, that also.seems okay with me. They collect a little more, which is debatable. But I only read one qualifier who disclosed this upfront. And the qualifiers for the European open are cheaper than the us open ones. I think it was something 30-40 euros versus 120-150 dollars. All in all still.some kinks to iron out.
