Mosconi Cup 2024, Nov. 30-Dec. 3, Orlando

I think either drunk or sober Billy would be more entertaining than Oscar. You should be feeling bad for Oscar.
Maybe we should require them all to drink during play. That should make someone like Oscar more entertaining, and probably bump up the drama!

Consider that Sky burnt one pic on himself. If he hadn't then he becomes what..?.., a bench coach, rather than a playing one...?
I can't see that happening, especially if they qualified into one of the top 3 spots. But I guess it would depend on the money. Is the team captain paid more than the non-captain players?

If drinking were a requirement, the American co-captains would have to be Earthquake and Scott Tollefson. Between his 8th and 15th beers I've never seen Scott miss a ball. :)

Can confirm. Scott will drink a pitcher and run balls

This is what baffles me.... Almost like they attempt to validate the closed door invites based on publicly viewable rankings. Until this situation, the rankings vs ideal players (entertainment) have lined up. MR's hand has been force a bit by Filler's choices. Attempting to generate validity to the "tour" by acting like organizing body rather than just a promoter.

The tires will hit the road once Shaw's ranking falls enough to rely on being a captain's pick despite several others playing better. Mosconi is not about promoting competition. They want the drama, bravado, good vs bad guy. WCofP and the Premier I like to believe are different in that regard. Reyes too new to know what the driving force is.
Nice post. Agree with almost all of it.

Nonetheless, Shaw has surely shown himself to be the best team player in the world for several years, and he proved it once again with rock solid play in the Reyes Cup. If I were captain of Team Europe, he'd have to drop a long way before I ever considered going to bat without him.

Golf's Ryder Cup teams have routinely featured underperforming players with large followings who make good television. This is just how the game is played.

The wild card was specifically meant for players like Billy Thorpe. A wild card choice is not merely about rankings, but intangibles or fit. That is, of course, why it was created.

The choice of Thorpe reminds me of the USA Basketball Team in the Olympics. When Kawhi Leonard was dropped, Derrick White was added. Jaylen Brown is a better player on the Celtics. And there are players in the league who are better. But White was viewed as a better fit. Turned out he was.

That said, I don't think Thorpe is a great choice. He has been inconsistent, at best, this year. Oscar is a better breaker and pattern player. He has also been more competitive vs the very best players in the world. He arguably was as good this year as he's ever been on the pro tour.

Choosing Billy for his rah-rah game also seems a bit unfair. SVB and Styer are as low key as one could be. Oscar is sort of getting punished for it, even though he actually has more personality than either one. Amazed he's never been picked as wild card. Just not right.

I hope Billy plays well, but if he doesn't, Sky should get excoriated.

Not a fan of player coaches, either. The fact that neither Sky nor Shaw qualified on points is a black mark to me. Sky definitely eased back this year. Shaw, to his credit, did not.

Funny that Billy loses to Archer and Oscar goes hill-hill with SVB. It is such a tricky thing. I can’t remember the last time Oscar was at the MC and wasn’t in the running for weakest link on the team. I can remember Billy coming in very clutch quite a few times. But also Billy hasn’t seemed on top of the game ever since his WPA ban. I did feel like Oscar deserved it more but I get the wildcard idea and can respect there’s merit to Sky’s selection. Oscar and Billy are only 10 FargoRate apart.

Filler being there would have drawn more viewers especially the haters wanting to see him lose.

That is a fact

Sky, Shane, Oscar, Gorst, and Tyler are all boring.

Billy is the only fun person on the team, Sky is a little more fun when Billy is around but the rest are a snooze fest.

I'd rather see Billy, Hatch, Earl, Keith and...well, there's got to be somebody

... The BCA Hall of Fame induction of Shane Van Boening, Mark Griffin and Mike Panozzo will take place the evening of the 29th at the Caribe Royal.
...
In case you live in Orlando and would like to attend the banquet/induction, Panozzo is looking for some volunteers to help staff the event in exchange for attendance🍗🥩🥗🦪🍰. Check people in and such. If you volunteer, I won't have to. (y)(y)(y)

I will be in Florida at the tournaments from Nov. 20 (Wed.) to Dec. 4 (Wed) in case you would like to meet up. I'll go to Orlando right after the International finishes.

That would be great if people from AZB volunteered. Me… I’ll be a bit busy.

If it's entertainment you guys are looking for, Sky should have picked Archer over Oscar.

That may have brought down Facebook though.

So maybe it would have been worth it.

both sky and billy lost to kaci's little brother in the intl open, 10-1 and 10-3. scoreline should be more worrisome than the bane, because it's alternate break.. billy will play corey next

Perhaps a hint of things to come for MC.

DigitalPool has the wrong score for the LittleKaçi/Thorpe match. It was 10-5.

If anyone is still looking for tickets, Ticketmaster is offering certified resale tickets for all four days. The prices range from $200 to $400 or so per day. The final day is not sold out of original tickets -- pessimists.
Ouch! I was hoping to score tickets under $50 but I can see that is not likely to happen.
