But I am not sure if it is this specific 'series' - they run a lot of 'series' here between brands and sponsors etc, and there is the odd international winner from time to time. Never able to maintain their momentum like the Chinese 'big guns'

I meant the original snooker. 12' I can relate. Impossible rail shots, not so much. Any clue how those pockets evolved? I did the big balls small pockets in the 70s. I love shooting at the holes but not any game on snooker pockets - not even golf.
To me and I'm not going to challenge the novelty effect here, what happens is the defense / offense ratio gets tipped too far toward defense. The limited shot opportunity creates a big window for no brainer safety play while offense is limited to ducks and pedantic patterns. Enjoy till you see.
